~ Keith's PoV ~

Ophelia.

Ophelia.

Oph-

Argh.

There was no power on earth which is as strong as my hate for her right now. I remember the night when I walked into my mom's room, with a gift in my hand, an angel pendant, for her birthday.

As I entered the room I'd seen she wasn't there. But Ophelia was.

She gasped all of a sudden, her eyes were almost wet with tears. She was sweating profusely. She backed to the wall, and dragged herself down.

"Hey, what happened?"

I walked closer to her and she turned her face away from me, squinting her eyes, waiting to see what I was going to do next. I wasn't able to understand why she was acting like that. Her brown hair wrapped one side of her face and her slender arms were stuck against the fuchsia wall.

I bent down and turned her face such that her green eyes fluttered at me. I remember how she always made me melt with that tiny gleam. But this time, there was guilt, fear even, reflecting in those beads.

"I-I-I'm sorry." She whispered and pushed me a bit as she got up.

"What are you talking about, Lia?"

"K-K-Keith, I-I had no ch-ch-choice." She stammered as she inched to the open window.

"What did you do?" Now I was really worried. What was she even talking about? Why was she so anxious?

I placed the box on the dresser and followed her gaze to a corner of the room. Ash blew around, fine grey ash. Did something burn? But this ash, it was different than normal ones. This was that of a-

"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO MY MOTHER?" I couldn't help but roar at her as she pressed her eyes together again as I screamed. Did she kill her? But that wasn't even possible. She was a Linx, she couldn't DreamLash.

Obviously she could hear my thoughts as she slowly spoke,"I-I-I got Ryan to do it."

Ryan? Ryan Walker, my best friend? Ryan Walker, the DreamMáire?

But how?

Oh yeah, the power of her mind. Mind over Matter. How amusing.

"BUT WHY?"

"Because.."

She supported herself onto the window sill.

"BECAUSE?" I completely lost it by now. She didn't give me any reply as she let go of the sides of the window and fell down, but when I ran outside to save her, she was already gone.

Gone without notice, without warning, without telling me why the first girl I ever loved killed my mother.

My life is really screwed up.

I thought I would never love again, I'd shut my heart for anyone and everyone. I was too scared because the scar she left on me still hurt and I wasn't sure if I would ever be strong enough to endure the pain again.

And then comes Sophie.

Thanatos had given me one mission, one mission to do. Befriend her and get her Umanoya, he'd said. Gain her trust. Besides, after this he promised me the position of Supreme Leader. Ohhhh, the power.

He knew about Ophelia and he handed me this mission because he trusted that I would never fall for this girl and will be able to hurt her without any sympathy.

But he was wrong. I was wrong.

The first time I saw her, I didn't know what got into me. I mean, I did hear that the DreamMaker is beautiful but her heart is evil and that I shouldn't judge the book by its cover. She would be the reason we would lose the war. So I did what was said, tried to be her friend and tried to trick her into coming with me to the Upper World. But she was one adamant girl. She flaunted such confidence which she clearly didn't have. Beneath the tough exterior, there is a small, wounded, scared girl.

Too many times I'd seen her cry, seen her hurt and in pain. As I spent time with her, I realised that she's nothing like I'd hear about. She's like a tiny rat, scurrying in the outside world, completely unaware of her true power. When Gracie did that to her, I trembled in anger. I lost control of myself.

But when Josh-

Don't think about it.

Am I falling for her?

Wait, no. Urgh. Keith doesn't fall for the enemy. For all I know, she might just be playing me.

And now I meet Ophelia. Ophelia who left me two years ago. Ophelia who killed my mother. Ophelia who right now blurted out my whole plan to Sophie, how I wanted to get her spirit, what I wanted to actually do, what actually was my goal.

But little did I know, that it wasn't, not anymore.

A tiny part of me wanted to find a way to save her, and get ourselves out of this mess. Eff this war. We needed to be safe. I need to save the world from the wrath of Thanatos. But how could I without Sophie's help? And after this little encounter, she would surely never talk to me again, let alone trust me.

Just when I was about to leave the godforsaken place, I heard a voice in my head.

K-K-K-Keith. I immediately recognised it. It was Sophie's. Why was she struggling so much?

H-help me, p-please.

For one moment, I stood rock still. What was wrong? I thought she wouldn't talk to me and here she was, pleading for help.

I felt a tug.

Oh god. Thanatos.

I teleported lightning fast to where it took me and before I even saw the place, the familiar smell exploded into my nose.

The Dark World.

Where was I? In one of the chambers of Sin?

My suspicions were confirmed as Thanatos came out of the shadow of a wall, smirking at me. "Aw, lover boy came to save the damsel in distress, eh?"

I winced as he moved to the side and a bound, but unconscious Sophie came into my view. Her hands and legs were tied with some rope. Her face was covered with dirt, her arms had red fingerprint marks, from a hand squeezed around it too long.

"Sophie!" I wailed as I ran towards her, but Thanatos stopped me by his strong right arm and I tried to move it off me, but in vain.

"You're forgetting who's side you're on."

"Any side but the one with you on it." I glared at him.

"Don't forget your role, boy. You're the one who has to take her Umanoya."

"Didn't you hear me? I won't."

"I will make you." He smirked again, obviously thinking of evil ways to pay me back.

"Get someone else to do your dirty work."

I won't do anything which will harm her. At all. And If that means standing up to the Dark Horse, so be it.

"You think I chose you in the beginning because you're what, skilled? No one else can, only you."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"Chavez, you're the Destined One."
