How You Doing, Old Friend?

When I look at his face

I can see how he's aged

It's been quite a while

Since we've been reengaged

Now his hair's mostly gray

And skin splotched in spots

But his eyes are still clear

Though he's seen quite a lot

When you see friends and family

From day to day

The changes seem slight

Like faint shades of gray

But as the years roll by

Even weeks seem to matter

The skin's not so tight

We're not so easy to flatter

How you doing, old friend?

I ask with a grin

He asks the same thing

As he scratches his chin

And with one final look

We take a step nearer

Then in unison step back

Away from the mirror
