No [A Date? : Attempt #2]

Bre

I looked at Susanne as if she'd gone mad. Then I looked over at Leah who was in bed, frantically motioning me to turn her down. When I looked back at Susanne, she was giving me the puppy dog eyes, plus I'm my sister's keeper. So, I couldn't help but to give in to her. "C'mon in."

I heard Leah release an extra loud groan, Susanne looked real hurt at that, so I tried to reassure her.

"Leah gotta migraine, so she's in a bum ass mood. Don't take it to the heart."

"Awe, I'm so sorry, Leah. I didn't mean to disturb you." She apologizes.

"Which side do you want?" I ask, while I eyed her skeptically.

"Lea– uh... right in the middle is fine." She grins widely.

I take her blanket and pillow from her arms, laying it in the middle of the bed. Leah glared me down the whole time as I did so. I stuck my tongue out at her, in an get over it gesture.

She lets out a disappointed huff of air and turned completely away from me. I slapped her butt once while Susanne wasn't looking. She gasped and turned back my way ready to fight. I let out a laugh then turned my attention back to Susanne. "It's all yours, sis."

She climbs onto the middle section of our beds and stopped by Leah's head, "How's your head? Is it really bad?" She places her fingertips on either side of her temples. "Let me help you."

I rolled my eyes and walked back over to the bedroom door to lock it. Susanne kept cooing to Leah in my ears, and I had enough. "Susanne, all you doin' is makin' it worse. Get'cho ass to bed."

She gave me a saddened look but I returned a stern expression causing her to pout, "Fine." She knew better than to try and act up around me, I don't hurt her physically, but I could definitely hurt her feelings bad.

She fixed herself correctly in bed and I soon joined in. It felt strange not having Leah hold me against my will. To be honest, I wanted that kiss earlier. Now, I just really want her to hold me...

Wait, what am I saying to myself?

I let out a silent sigh and hugged my pillow closer against my head. Shaking my head free of these thoughts, I allow myself to zone out into my own dreamworld.

{Afterschool}

I was walking over to the park like Leah asked me to. She left a cute little sticky note in my textbook, knowing that I'd look in there at least once throughout the day. She asked me to meet her here, so here I am... with... no sight of her anywhere.

I am mad ass hell, how do you tell someone to meet up with you somewhere and don't even be there? Where they do that kind of shit at?

I relax down on a bench, throw my head back, and let out a heavy groan. It's way too hot outside for this shit. 5 more minutes then I'm out.

All of a sudden, a pair of soft hands blinded my vision and I let out a loud scream in the spur of the moment. A loud laugh made me even more mad as Leah revealed herself in front of me. I immediately pushed her away from me and crossed my arms. "That shit ain't funny, man!"

"How not? You was all like ahhh–!" She started laughing in between her sentence and I got up from my spot on the bench, "I'm out."

"No~" she pleads, "I've got a big day planned ahead of us, since the last one was ruined by– you know who."

I mugged her for a moment before deciding to let it go, "A'ight, fine. Where we going?"

"You'll see," She hums along as we make it to where a car was parked.

"Who car this is?" I ask.

"Mine," she chuckles before unlocking the car with a loud beep to it.

"Wait, when—"

"Just get in," she laughs, opening the passengers side for me.

I question her no more, and climb in, buckling on my seatbelt.

--

Before I knew it, I had drifted off to sleep. We have been driving for hours. When I woke up, I saw nothing but trees.

"Where we at?" I asked groggily, fixing myself up in the car seat.

Leah looked over at me and smiled.

"Almost there."

After a couple of more minutes she stopped the car at the beginning of a forest trail.

I looked at her in shock.

"Forreal?" I asked confused.

"Forreal," she answered getting out of the car.

I stared at the trail that seemed like it wouldn't ever end.

"You scared?" She asked walking up to my side.

"N-Nah, not at all. Just not a... uh– not really the woods typa person, ya' know?" I answered hesitantly.

"Nice, that's surely going to change for today." She declared.

"How?"

"Just know that, by the end of this day. All you'll ever wanna do is camp, baby."

Baby? Eh, come again? Excusez-moi?! Tell me why my heart skipped one of it's beats though...

I disregarded the nickname.

"Camping?!" I yelled, scaring away a flock of birds.

"Right."

"Uh– hell nah! Why the fuck you choose camping?" I try to calm down, "I'on like bugs, o coyotes, o frogs, o forests, o mountains, o hills, o nature, o fresh air, personally I'll stick with the polluted air we breathe er'day, thank you, no thank you." I finished ranting.

"Bre, chill. Everything is going to be fine, long as you stick with me, then you good. I figured you and I needed some more bonding time, and ain't none more bonding then camping."

"You at least tell my mom?"

"Nope."

"You kiddin' me, chico?!"

"Of course I'm just kidding. I got her support 100% first before even thinking of this. And, I'm not a chico." She laughs.

"I'on believe you, I'm a' call her real quick. Let me catch you in a' lie." I pull out my phone, and she swiftly grabs it out my hand before I even pressed the home button.

"No electronics," she continues to laugh enraging the mini temper tantrum building up within me.

I just stared at her with a blank expression. No electronics? No electronics at all? This is how I am going to die? Doing white people shit?

"Look I promise I'll protect you Bre, with every bone in my body. Every little thing, gonna be alright~" she sung out the end in the best Bob Marley imitation she could pull off.

I couldn't help but crack a grin at that, "You promise?"

"I promise." She sticks her pinkie out for me.

"Childish," I laugh entwining her pinkie with mine. She brought it up to her lips kissing it softly.

"Promise," she repeats in an seductive voice. Or, is that just how I'm hearing her sound at the moment?

I felt my face blush into a smile slightly engraving my dimples, but I quickly brushed it off.

"The trail starts over here," Leah says and when I look up I realize she's already walking off ahead of me.

I remained in place.

She stopped walking and turned around, "What's wrong?" She asked concerned.

"What if I lose my track, fuck 'round, and get lost," I ask.

"Oh!" She yells as if she remembered something, "I almost forgot."

She came back over to me. Held her hand out and I mugged her then the hand that was extended out for me.

"Take it, so I won't lose you. I heard it's more effective then a map, you know? It's scientifically proven." She finishes with a wink towards me.

I chuckled. I went ahead and took her hand with precaution. "This is only for safety purposes only," I clarify.

She nods her head in agreement. "Now, in order to get past all these dead branches we're going to need to cut 'em down, with a machete." She said in an Australian accent that was surprisingly really s̶e̶x̶y̶– good.

"That really necessary?" I laugh.

"The machete? Pretty much. The accent? Nah, I just find it fun to do. Don't you like it?" She smirks back at me.

"Just do yo' farmer thing o' whateva!" I yelled at her.

She smiled and began to hack away.

After not too long, we reached a clearing. You've got to be kidding...

"A hill?" I groaned.

"Mongoose Hill," she laughed.

I looked at her, "How you know—"

"When I was a kid, I use to come here a lot. This hill use to be filled with them, so I just sorta labeled it as that."

"Wait, you came here as a—"

"Let's go, gotta go before it gets too late. You don't wanna be out here when it's late."

She continued to walk off.

So, she came here as a... wait...

My thoughts were beginning to swarm my mind all of a sudden and I decided to ask a question to distract myself from these thoughts I couldn't grasp, "What it be like when it's dark?"

"Stay, and see." She furthers away from me.

"H-Hollup," I quickly catch up to her and grab onto her shirt for safety.

7 minutes blows by like the wind.

"Is we there– owe!" I ran into Leah's back, "What the– why'd you stop?"

She just stood there grinning ear to ear.

"What?"

She points in a direction.

I stood beside her to see what she was so gawked at, and my voice stuck in my throat.

Oh, shit...

It was real nice. I stared at it speechless.

"Like it, huh?" Leah asked smiling at me.

I slowly nodded.

She gave a slight chuckle and began walking on.

"C'mon."

I looked at her confused.

"Just follow me," she continues already pretty far from me.

"Aye! Don't you leave me," I yell after her. I catch up to her but lose my footing and plow right into her back. She tensed up, but quickly relaxed as she turned around.

"You alright?" She asked worriedly.

I gave a small smile to show her I was.

"Can we take a break?" I asked, slightly out of breath from all this walking we were doing.

She started to laugh.

"What's so fucking funny?" I growl.

"You don't get out much, do you?" She continued to laugh to her own amusement.

I felt my cheeks warm up in embarrassment, making her laugh some more.

"Well, my fucking bad! I ain't Smokey the damn Bear! I don't do this wilderness shit!" I snap at her.

"Well, we won't have to walk for awhile." She said walking towards a heavily treed area.

I eyed her suspiciously.

"Why's that?"

She motioned me towards her and moved a bush to reveal a canoe.

"How'd you know that was there?" I asked pretty taken aback.

"You getting on or not?" She laughs already on the canoe.

She held her hand out to me and I rolled my eyes before I took it.

She paddled until we were in the middle of this vast lake or whatever else; I don't know what exactly it was neither did I care, all that mattered was the fact that it is beautiful.

She came to a slow stop. I look at her in curiosity and she slipped off her shirt causing me to quickly advert my gaze.

"T-The fuck you doing, Leah?"

"Going for a swim," she replied before plunging into the water.

She was down there for awhile so I low-key started to panic. What if she passed out from lack of oxygen, what if she got a cramp and is drowning, what if—

I was snapped out of my thoughts by her remerging. I let out a hasty sigh of relief.

She threw her dreads back and ran her hand over her face like people do in movies. It was a nice sight to see if I do say so myself. "You aren't coming in?" She frowned.

"Black people don't swim." I said, remaining with a straight line face.

She busted out laughing. "C'mon, the water is even warm," she pouted.

"You lying," I state.

"Put your hand in and see for yourself." She responded confidently.

I dumbly listened to her and reached out to touch the water. Right before I could stick a finger in, she grabbed my wrist and yanked me in. I submerged completely before resurfacing. I let out a deep breath and sucked in another in it's place.

"What the fuck!" I yelled, wiping my eyes before attempting to open them.

When I opened my eyes, Leah was gone. I kept looking around and couldn't spot her anywhere.

"Leah... you betta not—" I felt something brush against my leg. I freaked out and started kicking around to keep whatever it was away from me. I felt something slip in between my legs and it lifted me out of the water. I closed my eyes and let out a high-pitched scream, I didn't even think my vocals could possibly produce. I wrapped my arms around it to keep from falling. It was laughing. Correction, laughing it's ass off. I opened my eyes and looked down to see Leah. I was on her shoulders, my arms wrapped around her neck.

"That ain't funny!" I screamed, punching her in the chest.

"Awe, I scare you?" She laughed.

"Shut the fuck up! I thought you left me or sum." I growled, tears trickling in the corner of my eyes. I know, I can be a big crybaby when I need to be.

She lifted me off her shoulders and placed me back on the canoe. She kissed my cheek softly. "I'm sorry," she said caressing my face, "I was just playing, you know I wouldn't ever leave you. I don't ever want to lose you again." She finished, wiping away the little beads of tears in my eyes.

"Can we just go, man!" I snapped, roughly pushing her away from me. "Don't fucking touch me."

She respectfully gave me some space, "It is getting pretty late." She sighs.

We traveled in silence back to land.
