More Than Just Love

Chapter One- Mind Tricks

Sometimes two people just know it's over, no matter how much they once loved each other. There are no such things as soul mates, every relationship has a beginning and every relationship will have an end, some are just longer than others. Sam knew it was over when Jake picked her up and there was no peck with his hello and no smile in his eyes. They hadn't seen each other in sometime and it was evident, the air was like that of a first date where the people just aren't that into one another. She looked around the car awkwardly, fidgeting in her seat, waiting for the moment to arise for one of them to say something. "So you have the directions?" he asked finally, she smiled inwardly, "Yeah one sec, let me get them up on my phone." She scrambled through her bag looking for it and tapping furiously to get to where she had written them down, she began to direct him as it were and they reached their destination, that was it, no small talk, no laughter, no romance. That was tragic she thought seeming as this was their attempt to rekindle said romance, and it was failing miserably. Unconsciously Sam's mind began to drift, Jake's deep brown eyes shifted to a shade of serene blue and, his mouth fixed in a frown became a pearly smile of perfect teeth. She stared at his face, uncomfortable with the changes her mind had made. "You ok?" Jake seemed to notice her staring, unfazed. "Yeah I'm fine, just a bit spaced out", he looked at her and smiled, she brushed a piece of hair off her face and smiled back. He took her hand, she jumped, alarmed by the contact instigated by him. She sighed with relief, he was trying and she appreciated that. They roamed the gardens hand in hand, mainly in silence, she was still taken back by the tricks her mind had played on her earlier. All the scenery around her, the scents of the flowers and the brightness of the sun blurred into the back of her mind as she started thinking about the man who was constantly in her mind, Zander.
