This was meant to be about the world looking on us as heroes. About being famed for our sheer awesomeness.
Yeah, right.
Here is how it all began.....
'Hi Harold, how was college?' Mum asked, casual as ever. Dad said nothing. He never did. It was as if I didnt exist. It was a bit depressing, but I was used to it.
I just shrugged. It was the same answer I gave her every day, but she didnt stop asking. It was as if she was trying to show me at least one of my parents cared. I knew I should appreciate that, but its hard when father and son are meant to be closer than mother and son.
And then came the miracle. Dad ACTUALLY SPOKE TO ME.
Yea, for me thats a miracle. I am eighteen years old, nearly nineteen in fact, and its the first time my father ever spoke to me.
'I have something to tell you,' he said. He sounded like it was painful to speak to me, and he wasnt making eye contact.
'You are going to be a soldier.'
