After we left from the pool, we went into this fast food place inside the food court in the hotel. It's called McDonalds and Kol ordered some chicken nuggets and French fries. I try it and it's delicious unlike the food at the hospital. When we walk back into the suite, Dr. Carlton starts yelling at Kol for being late. But all Kol does is roll his eyes and just walks me to my room.
"Hey, are you okay?" I ask him. "This is my entire fault."
"Yes I'm okay and it's not your fault. My dad overreacts all the time it's no big deal." he explains to me.
When we reach my room I give him a long hug not wanting to let go. But when I do, he gives me a kiss, not on the cheek, on the lips. I can feel his soft lips pressing on mine. Then literally I see sparks flying. And I end up backing away, even though the experience of my first kiss was amazing or maybe overwhelming. Either way I enjoyed it but it didn't seem right.
"I'm sorry. I just, I just got caught in the moment." he says noticing I'm the one who backed away.
"It's okay I was just surprised, that's all." I say while opening my door. "Good night."
As I close the door softly, I lean my back against the door and slowly slide down. I'm so confused. Should I be excited that I just had my first real kiss, or should I be worried what the result of my action will be? I'm not really sure what I should think or do, so I just go into the bathroom and take a nice cool shower.
When I finished I put on my pajamas and just jumped onto the bed and instantly fall asleep. My dream was very weird like as weird as my last dream, it was another message. I saw Kol and I think we were on another date. We were walking around the beach laughing and joking around. Then he started talking in that other language and in that scratchy voice saying, "Take the Trail of Mysteries and enter the volcano. Beyond there you will find a key to a special lock, the hint lies on the key." The next thing I know everyone is in my room trying to wake me up.
"Marisa. Marisa. Wake up, Marisa." Kol says while shaking me awake.
"What? What's going on?" I say half awake and half asleep.
"You were talking in your sleep. And you kept saying, where, where is that, and why?" Dr. Parker explains.
"Oh well, I got another message. It was that I had to go on a trail and go into a volcano and find a key to this lock." I say yawning and wiping the sleep out of my eyes, not mentioning Kol.
"Did they give any specific details?" Dr Smythe asks me abruptly.
"Yeah a Trail of Mysteries." I answer.
"Well we know now, that this is the place," Dr. Parker says with a smirk on his face. "And that we are going hiking."
"Oh really?" Dr. Smythe surprised. "I think I should stay here and keep a watch on everything"
"What? It's fine here, besides hiking has fresh air that's so... refreshing." says Dr. Parker sounding excited.
"This sounds like fun." I say amused by the doubt in Dr. Smythe's tone.
Then when I find out that hiking is when people go outside in the woods or forest and go up a steep slopes, in this case a volcano. I don't know what Dr. Smythe doesn't like about hiking, its fun. A good thing about the hike is that every time I'm about to slip or I fall; Kol is there to catch me. He's so sweet, generous, and amazing. I don't deserve him.
"Dr. Parker!" I yell so he could hear me from the front of the line.
"Yes." he answers me. Then I catch up with him in the front.
"Do you understand how to get inside the volcano? Because I don't want to see if I'm lava-proof just yet." I say panting trying to catch my breath.
"Well I guess we can look. But I never heard of a tunnel in this volcano." he says confused.
"It's probably hidden." I say trying to give an idea.
"Maybe." he answers.
"Ahhhh!" I say falling to the ground, holding my head. "What’s going on?!"
I scream in agony, and then I begin to blackout. I see the tunnel inside the volcano; it's behind this tree that someone's grave is. I slowly enter the tunnel and see obstacles but I make it to the center of the volcano. When I wake up I see that someone is carrying me and we are headed to the cone of the volcano.
"What? What's going on?" I say still a little light-headed.
"We are headed to the volcano." someone explains to me, but my eyes are foggy and I can't figure out who it is.
"It's at the bottom of the volcano, leading to the center. It’s a tunnel." I explain to whoever is holding me.
"Dr. Parker!! We need to head towards the bottom." says the person carrying me. Dr. Parker comes towards us. Then I my eyes start to clear up and I see that it's Kol who is holding me.
"She just woke up and said the entrance is at the bottom." Kol explains to Dr. Parker.
"Where exactly?" he asks.
"Near this tree where a grave is." I answer. "Can you put me down? Please."
"Sure." Kol replies. Putting me down gently, helping me regain my balance.
I start looking around and point to the tree I saw in my dreams. You can't miss it the tree is really short but full if leaves and has buds of flowers, gradually blooming. "There with the white cross in front of it." I say about to fall, until Kol helps me. "Thanks, again."
"No problem." he says happy to help.
I feel so guilty, the fact that he kissed me and I backed away, shows where I stand in our relationship. I don't even think you call this a relationship. Because it's not that I don't like him or that I don't care. I do, it's just that I feel awkward about having a real boyfriend or that my life is dangerous for him and for me. Also that I can't stand the fact that I'm endangering him and if he gets hurt it's my entire fault.
Once I started walking normal, we started walking towards the tunnel. It seems exactly like my dream so I know where to go and I find the center of the volcano. But the question is, where's the key? Everyone starts asking me where do we look? And where is it? But I have no clue; I woke up right before I got the chance to find it. So we keep looking until finally, I notice that Dr. Smythe found it through a special compartment behind the wall of the cave.
"Found it." she says so happily.
"Great. Let's have a look at it." I say taking it from her.
It looks ancient, with rust starting to form over the bronze coloring, and the shape of the head is like some sort of crown, and the end is like a puzzle piece. So I'm definitely confused. He said that there's a clue on the key. What does a crown and a puzzle piece symbolize? Maybe the mayor of the island or King or whoever is in charge.
"Does this look familiar in any way?" I ask, handing it to Dr. Parker and still figuring out what the key goes to.
"I know what this is, it's a crest." says Dr. Smythe looking at the key, looking uncertain.
"A crest of what?" I say.
"Of my family." Dr. Smythe answers.
