Raindrops. Dozens of them. I watch as they slide down the glass, like tears. They're on the windshield too, and the wipers can't keep up with all of the drops coming down. The sky is gray and gloomy, appropriate for the occasion. The wind is strong, the trees struggling to stay standing, but their roots hold them in place. I close my eyes, hoping that this isn't real, and that I'm at home hanging with my two best friends, both of them alive and well.
Then I open my eyes again and know that it is real and I can't go back, only forward.
Forward, to my best friend's funeral.
I look over at my brother as he sighs and shifts in seat. He actually looks sort of handsome in his black suit.
"You didn't have to come you know," I tell him. "She is- was my friend, not yours." He doesn't look at me.
"Your brother is coming to support you, Adelaide," my mother says from the passenger seat. "Because he cares about you, we all do. Isn't that right, Hayden?"
Hayden just grunts and continues to stare out the window. Mom turns back around and sighs.
I return to my thoughts. And I just want to let go, and be with her, forever...
