8.Overheard and Understood
I woke a hour later to hear talking in the living room; so I crept to the stairs and listened. “I'm worried about James,” told John.
“Why? No one knows about him besides his family,” Anna replied.
“He told me his senses haven't changed back and then we went to the zoo...” started John.
“What did you do at the zoo?” interrupted Anna.
“We went into the lion exhibit and he talked to a lioness; plus, it wasn't English that he was speaking,” John told.
“What could this mean?” cried Anna.
“I think it means that not only will he be a human for only a year, that he didn't change all the way,” he answered.
“No, this could be a problem,” Anna wept.
“Yes, it could. My worst fear is if he gets too mad,” John explained.
“Do you mean?” she asked quickly.
“Yes, he might change back,” he answered slowly.
“Oh no,” she screamed and that was all I heard because I went back to my room to think and sleep.
I got up hours later and hurried to the living room to watch TV. John soon joined me and we sat for a few minutes before he ordered, “James, turn the TV off. We need to talk.”
I did as I was asked before looking at him and asking, “Is this about what you and Anna were talking about?”
“You heard?” he asked surprised.
“I was coming down, when I heard you two talking from the stairs,” I confirmed as I sat down again.
“Do you understand what we said?” he questioned as he laid his head back.
“I think so, but what do you mean I could change back?” I asked as I stared at him.
“If you get angry, you could change into a lion for a while; but it will be temporary, I hope,” he replied as he turned to look at me.
“What about that I had not totally changed?” I questioned quickly.
“Remember you said, 'My sense haven't really changed.' Then you were talking to Iris and all I knew was you were roaring,” told John.
“Yea?” I replied still confused.
“Your mind and body didn't change like it should, but it isn't that bad,” he continued.
“What happens to you when you get mad?” I asked curious.
“Nothing. Anna and I have defiantly changed all the way,” he answered calmly.
“Should we test it. To see if I do change, because I don't want to get mad at someone; then poof, I'm a lion,” I suggested.
“Yes, but are you sure that you don't mind changing?” he asked quickly.
“We have to know, but how will I get mad?” I questioned as he stood.
“I don't know. See you later,” called John as he grabbed his coat and walked out the door.
