[[A/N: LAST PREWRITTEN CHAPTER..so there wont be an upload for a while. I have a few other books I now have to work on that I've been neglecting.... also there may not be much Seto POV because I've been having technical difficulties as writing as a guy...]]
*Mercy's POV*
After two weeks of having to stay in Kaiba's house doing absolutely nothing, I was actually excited to go back to school.
Nobody had come to visit me, but I think that's because they hate Kaiba, not that they wanted nothing to do with me. Since I had no clothes, Kaiba had sent me out with a driver and bodyguard to the mall to shop with his credit card after just a week of staying there. He told me to buy anything I wanted, however I didn't feel comfortable doing that so I didn't end up with much.
One pair of pajamas, three pairs of jeans, five T-shirts, seven pairs of underwear, one dress, one pair of shorts, and a hoodie plus some socks and a pair of converse. I'd only bought that much becuase whenever I thought to go home, the driver would send me right back in to buy more on Mr. Kaiba's orders...
Even then, when that was all I came home with, Kaiba didn't look very happy, but then again he usually didn't unless he was with Mokuba. I had begun to gain weight, which tended to happen when I can actually eat whatever I want whenever I want.
It was so nice at Mr. Kaiba's home, everyone was so very sweet but I still tried to stay in my room reading about computers and anything to do with technology. I was kind of a geek when it came to that stuff, I absorbed it like a sponge.
Kaiba had a lot of books about the subject, since he designed all the things that his company produces. He's really smart, so I never could understand why he was even still in school. I'd like to ask him but I haven't built up the courage.
Not that I've even had the chance, the only times we talk are when I'm asking for a new book, or he's asking how I feel. He goes to school, and has tons of work, he doesn't eat dinner with anyone else. He's always stuck in his office!
In fact... he should take a day off.
Being Sunday, today would be the perfect day, and tomorrow I have to go back to school, so maybe we can do something today.
With that idea in mind I made my way to his room, and knocked before I lost my sudden spike of bravery.
"Come in" a voice called from the other side, loud and commanding
"Mr. Kaiba" I nodded my head to him in greetings. The smell of his room wafted over me, soft yet distinctly masculine. It made my stomach flip uncomfortably and my heart beat speed up.
"Please stop calling me that, Mercy. My name is Seto, now what do need?"
"Um...I was wondering if maybe..." I lost my nerve right then, "you know what, never mind, forget it. I'm sorry for disrupting you!" I muttered as I turned to leave the masculine scented room.
"Wait" he spoke, so quietly that I barely heard him. "What would you like, Mercy? You don't have to be scared, I told you anything you need, just ask."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.
"I was wondering if we could maybe go out somewhere. You look like you could use a break, and I'm sure Mokuba would like to go. Maybe to the movies, or mall or something" I stared at the ground, working hard to keep my face impassive as I trailed off, waiting eager and nervous for his answer.
"I'm sorry, Mercy, I can't, I've got too much work to do, but you and Mokuba can go if you'd like. I'll give you my credit card for whatever you want to get" I simply nodded my head, not looking up.
"Thank you, Seto" I whispered, as he handed me the square piece of plastic that he'd pulled out of his wallet.
"It's no problem, go get dressed. I’ll see if Mokuba wants to go, and have him get ready too", with that I walked out the door and back to my room.
I didn't understand why it felt like my heart was breaking when he said 'no', but no matter the reason, the only thing that mattered was it hurt a lot worse than any physical pain I've ever felt. I didn't like it one tiny little bit. When I got to my room, I felt the first splash of salty water hit my cheek, then another and another. I was crying. What the hell?
Since when have I cried about something so trivial, he has work, no big deal, I'm still going with Mokuba. I walked over to the stereo that came with the room, and turned it to my favorite radio station. I was lucky, because one of my favorite songs was just coming on. I smiled, turning it up and listening to the hauntingly beautiful melody.
I stopped singing and began getting ready, humming softly in my throat. This has to be one of the most beautiful songs in the world, and it helps that the lead singer has such an awesome voice. After that song, I changed the station until a song I didn't know started playing, it was a pretty song. I only had to brush my teeth and hair, and then get dressed, because I didn't have makeup or anything. Once I was finished, I turned off the music and opened the door only to see Kaiba.
"Sorry Mercy, it seems Mokuba already went to his friends house. It looks like you're on your own kid," he ruffled my hair and turned back to his office. Well, that ruins that, I thought to myself, I guess I'm not going...
"Mr. Kaiba, here's your card" I walked up to him, giving him his credit card back before turning away.
"What, aren't you going to the mall? I thought you wanted out of the house" Kaiba looked at me, confusion leaking out of his usually calm exterior.
"Nah, I don't wanna go alone. Mostly I was just trying to get you to take a break from all the work you do. If you keep it up, you'll go gray before you're twenty" I smiled slightly, shrugging my shoulders at the cheesy explanation.
Kaiba's eyes widened for a second, looking...well I'm not sure exactly.
I turned on my heel, and went back inside. Right before I shut my door, I heard Kaiba saying something.
"Just give me a few minutes to get ready, we'll go to the mall and maybe the movies after."
I looked over my shoulder at Mr.Kaiba who looked completely different from his usual self. He was smiling softly, and his eyes were twinkling. I smiled widely, surprising even myself. I don't know when I've ever smiled this big without it being fake, but somehow Kaiba had managed to sneak it out of me.
"Thanks, Seto" I closed my door softly, still smiling like an idiot.
*~*~*
A half hour later we were walking through a store. I was checking out T-Shirts, and he was staring at me.
"What's up, Seto? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No reason. Find anything you want yet?"
"Nah. I'm thinking maybe that skirt over there, although I don't really care for skirts, that one's awfully pretty" I looked at the item in question, It was a tutu, with each layer of fabric a different neon color. I quite liked it though I doubted that it would look good on me, and chances were it cost a mini-fortune anyway.
"What size are you, Mercy?"
"Two, and in shirts extra small. Why?” I asked.
"So I can get a few things for you, don't ask questions, it's going to be a surprise", without looking back, he walked away to the other side of the store.
The more I thought of the last two weeks, the more I wanted to smile. My bruises were fading, leg and ribs were almost healed, and no new injuries. I felt better then I've ever remembered feeling, like I was a whole new person. I smiled so much more that I ever have before, and I wasn't scared of every little thing that moved. Granted, I was constantly tired, because the nightmares wouldn't go away but even then I felt one thousand times better than I did two weeks ago. Too bad I only had two more weeks with Seto Kaiba before having to go back home with Father.
I snapped out of my reverie, and began browsing through the clothes again. Once I was done with Hot Topic, I had the skirt, two pairs of gloves, and a T-shirt, plus snakebite lip rings. I think I'll pierce my lip later tonight by myself, or maybe if I can find someone to do it today then I'll do it professionally.
We split up after an hour, he took one bodyguard, and I took one, although I hadn't seen why I needed one. I finally found somewhere to put a snakebite piercing on my bottom lip, for fifty dollars, and another pair of converse, purple this time, instead of black and white. After an hour and a half, Kaiba called my bodyguard and told him where we would be meeting up, though I wasn't informed.
It took us a few minutes to actually find it, and in that time the bodyguard and I talked about ourselves. His name is Nick, he has two younger sisters, one my age, one thirteen. He's only twenty two, his mom's sick so he's trying to help out money wise, which is why he took this job because it pays pretty good. I think I've actually made a friend, even if he is five years older then me, he's really nice.
He had golden blond hair paired with stunning blue eyes that would make just about any girl squeal in fangirl delight, meaning where we walked, eyes followed.
So uncomfortable...
Eventually we found the store, Kaiba was already there, looking as calm and collected as he always did.
"Hi, Seto!" I grinned, when I realized that neither he nor his guard had seen us yet. Someone definitely needs to be paying more attention, what if I had been an assassin or somesuch?
Neither of them so much as blinked at my words. Perhaps they had know I was there after all...
"Mercy, come here." I did as he asked, walking right up next to him. In front of us was a glass case, with many styles of phones, and different colored cases. "Pick one".
"Huh?” I questioned, sounding exactly like a moron.
"You need a phone, so that I can always get a hold of you, and you can call your friends, so pick one, doesn't matter how expensive," he looked at me through the corner of his eyes, watching me as I looked through all of them.
"Are you sure, Mr. Kaiba? They're really expensive" I wished that he wouldn't buy all of this for me, or at least he could have told me beforehand so I wouldn't have spent so much on clothes and piercings.
"Don't call me that." Kaiba corrected, seeminingly absentmindedly. "You must have forgotten, Mercy, that I own one of the biggest companies world wide, I have plenty of money, and I want to spend it on you, so pick something" His voice and face were emotionless, so I couldn't tell if he was telling the truth about wanting to spend it on me. Why would he want that? I'm not worth how much I've already spent today, much less everything else I've bought the last time I went shopping with his credit card!
"That one" I pointed to the third cheapest phone, and then proceded to get a neon green case. "Thank you, Seto" I murmured, staring at my feet while rubbing the newly pierced lip.
"Don’t mention it. Now leave and we'll meet at the food court in an hour, eat lunch and then leave. Buy more clothes, that is an order. Mr. Sterling, if she doesn't, you are to get clothes for her, is that clear?"
"Yes Mr. Kaiba" Nick replied, stiffening his back so that he stood taller, more alert.
"All right. C'mon Nick..." I started walking, with Nick Sterling following just two steps behind me.
I got some bangle bracelets, and some earrings. I got a metal studded belt, some cotton candy perfume, and some hairbands that have fake different colored hair hanging from them. There was blue, orange, green, hot pink and red. As soon as I bought them, I put the green in. On the way to the second department of my choosing, I passed by a store that sold multi-colored hair extensions and hair accessories. I got extensions, in a plethora of neon colors, and then went to the store we were originally heading.
I got three more pairs of skinny jeans, and five more shirts, pretty sure that would satisfy Kaiba we then left. We went to the food court, about ten minutes early and sat there to wait. After a mere two minutes, I got bored and began to people watch.
While looking around for the perfect first candidate, my eyes landed on a familiar, unmistakable, head of hair. I stared, until he turned around, when he did, I wished with all my might that he hadn't.
Our eyes met, and he outright glared at me, I could literally feel the blood draining from my face as we continued to look at each other.
My father....
