"Bye Winter! I'll stop by tomorrow on the way to the airport," Therese said as she blew me a flying kiss. "Oh and if you two ever get back together, remember to use protection. Wouldn't want the Princess to become prego before she's even crowned Queen."
She gave me a cheeky wink, went inside the car and left me looking like a ripe tomato. Nate was beside me the whole time and I couldn't help but be bothered by his laughs.
"Stop laughing," I said, my cheeks still burning.
"How can I? That was totally funny," he said.
"Shut up," I said and slapped his arm.
"Alright, I'll stop," he said and his laughter died down and we were left awkwardly standing in front of the doorway. All the guests have gone and I couldn't help but feel even more anxious because there was nothing to hide the awkward tension between me and Nate.
"So, munchkin, do you want to go somewhere and talk about... stuff?" he said, rubbing his neck.
"Aw is Natey boy nervous?" Alec teases and that was just when I realized he, Charles, Matthew, and my brothers were all there the whole time.
Nate closed his eyes in frustration and turned around to look at his friends, his hands in his pockets.
"I'm going to bloody kill all of you!" he seethes.
"Come on, let's just go," I whispered to him as I grabbed his hand and dragged him away. "I know a place."
"Use protection kids!" Alec shouted at us while I dragged Nate.
"You're bloody dead!" Nate shouted back.
"Yeah sure, mate!" Alec replied.
The boys' laughs died down as me and Nate ran further, me dragging him.
"Should I be scared?" Nate asked breathlessly.
"Very," I teased and laughed. He laughed as well and I stopped running.
"Where are we going, munchkin?" Nate asked.
"We'll just go through this window," I said and climbed outside, still dragging him.
"You do realize that we're on the roof, right?" Nate asked.
"Yup. I go here whenever I wanted to see a lot of the places outside the gates," I said, smiling at the memory. "Maisie used to spend hours looking for me and I would just be here."
I led him farther up on a flatter portion of the roof and I sat down, my heels in my hand and his hand in the other. He sat beside me and I just held his hand. He squeezed it and looked at me straight in the eye. I was just staring at him and he smiled dazzlingly.
"This feels nice," he says. "I like this."
He waited for me to speak but I didn't and just stared at him. He averted his gaze and for some reason, he managed to smile yet look so sad at the same time.
"I know that it's a lot to ask but I'm a selfish boy," he said and chuckled lowly. "If I had no guilt in me, I'd be asking you to marry me. Right here, right now."
My eyes widened at his confession and I just couldn't help but doubt if I even did hear that come from his mouth. But it did and I heard it. Loud and clear.
"But then, I know that I never did a bloody great job for you to even consider saying 'maybe'," he said, his lips pursed. "Real shitty job."
I just continued to stare at him and he just continued to look down and hold my hand.
It was a beautiful but sad moment. It was like one of those really fun days that you don't want to end but it definitely will. It was also like your favorite song's ending--both beautiful and sad. Because whatever happens, I could forgive but I couldn't forget. It will always be in my mind. The same goes for him but sadly, he hasn't even forgiven himself and by the way he was clutching my hand like it was the end of his life, I knew that he really blames himself.
"You know," I said and he lifted his head and looked at me, his lips on my hand. "I clutched onto your arm like you're clutching onto mine right now. In the airport, that day."
I paused for a moment and looked him in the eye.
"I clutched onto it because I needed you so badly and I couldn't bear for you to leave. So now, I believe that what you're feeling for me is real because I was there. I was clutching your arm and that's how I felt. Is that... is that how you feel right now?" I asked, tears are blurring my vision slightly and I saw that he had tears in his eyes as well.
"Yes. Yes, I fucking need you," he said, crying. "God, I fucking need you. I fucking love you and I just screwed it all up. I lied... I lied about not loving you. I never stopped loving you but I was such an idiot to realize that I couldn't live without you."
"Do you?" I asked through my tears. "Really love me?"
"Look into my eyes," he said and I did.
We stayed like that for seconds, him wiping my tears and me squeezing his hand.
"I fucking love you. I can't live without you. I need you," he said with so much vulnerability.
I stared at his eyes, waiting for a sliver of doubt and I couldn't help but cry even more. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face on his neck and cried in happiness. He hands were on my hair and stroking my back as I cried.
"God, I love you Isabella," he said, his voice breaking.
He just held me through my cried and once I had no more tears to shed, I just rested my head on his shoulder with his arms around me.
"I love you too," I whispered to him.
"I know and I'm so happy that you do," he said. "You're so beautiful and I get to tell the whole world to go screw themselves because we love each other. I also could brag about you because you're so beautiful and amazing and perfect."
"Woah there," I said with a laugh.
"I'm just so happy I might even just jump from this roof and think that I'll survive."
I laughed at that and he grinned.
"You know, I actually forgot to tell you something," I said.
"What is it?" he asked.
"You look good in a tux."
"Why thank you," he said. "I also forgot to tell you something."
"What is it?" I asked, repeating his earlier question.
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
"You know, you suck at asking me to be your girlfriend. The first time you did was in the middle of the street, it rained and you got sick," I said.
"I know right? The things I do for you... I'd get sick for you," he said with a boyish grin.
"Sure," I rolled my eyes.
"So, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Oh right," I said. "Yup, of course. But don't you dare leave me again or I'll chop off your genitals."
"I won't leave. I promise."
"Good."
"Can I claim my real kiss now?" he asked just like he did when he first asked me to be his girlfriend.
"You may," I said and he grinned and our lips touched.
