Chapter 2

*Beep Beep* ... *Beep Beep* *Beep Beep* ...
Ugh... Must have forgotten to turn off my alarm clock. Isn't it Saturday? I mean, I thought it was? Well, no use trying to go back to sleep now.
I stretched my arm out to hit the sleep button to turn off that annoying alarm, when I noticed something pulling on my hand. Slowly, to adjust to the light I opened my right eye, then my left eye and glanced at my hand.
An IV. My eyes widened as I remembered. The fire. The smoke... THE LIGHT!!!
I'm supposed to be dead. Aren't I? I saw the light! They always say in stories that once you go into the light, your dead. Or your dying. So why aren't I dead??
I hear the door creak open and a friendly looking nurse walks inside.
"Ahh Hello Christina! I see you've finally awaken!" She says enthusiastically. "I'm Dr. Perk but you can call me Carrie. I have to ask you a few questions before I let your friends and family in to see you, Alright?" I nodded, not finding it in me to answer verbally.
"First question, what is your full name, and age?"
I opened my mouth to speak but no sound came out. Ugh! Why can't I speak? It's almost like I forgot how too, even though I believe that's impossible.
"Christina can you speak?" Carrie asked. I shook my head no. "Oh dear, well I'm going to assume that you know what your name and age and all the other stuff is because you are answering me, but your throat. It must have gotten affected by the amount of smoke. Soon we will have to run a few tests but in the mean time, I'm going to let people come into see you because they have all been so anxious to see how you were doing! Oh,and to let you communicate, you can use this whiteboard." She hands me the currently blank whiteboard that was on the wall and leaves my room, still leaving me with multiple unanswered questions.
