Kira gave Sasha a confused look. “I won’t get mad. What’s up?”
Sasha took a deep breath and began to speak, “Your date cancelled at the last minute today, soooo…” Sasha let her voice trail off. She was not ready to reveal to Kira who her real date was.
“So, what? Its just going to be the three of us? That’s cool. I’ll just have to sit in between you two,” Kira said laughing.
“No, we got a replacement for you.”
Kira had a feeling deep down in her gut she was not going to like what Sasha was going to say next. “Who?” she asked.
“J…Jason.” Sasha said as she tried to cover her face. She knew Kira was about to lose it.
“Sasha, what the hell?! I told you I didn’t want him for a date!”
“I know, I know. But he over heard me talking to Brian about it and just kind of invited his self. I told him I didn’t think it would be a good idea, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
“Yeah, bullshit. I know you, Sasha. You did this on purpose.”
“Look, you said you wouldn’t get mad at me.”
“Fine. Just know that you owe me big time for this. Does he know that I’m his date?”
“Na, he thought I was talking about one of my other home girls. That’s why he insisted on going.”
“Dang. Like I said, you owe me.” With that Kira backed up and allowed Sasha to lead the way into the theatre. They scanned the room until they found Brian and Jason sitting near the front. They walked over to the table and sat down.
“Oh, hey Kira. Didn’t know you were coming tonight.” Said Jason looking a bit surprised.
“Yeah, wasn’t expecting to see you either.” Kira said sarcastically.
Brian and Sasha exchanged nervous glances.
“Hi there. My name is Samantha and I’ll be your waitress this evening. Can I start you guys off with a couple of drinks?” No one had noticed the waitress approach their table. The tension between Kira and Jason was too distracting.
Brian cleared his throat and ordered first. “Yeah, let me get a coke. What you want Sash?”
“A Sprite is fine.” Sasha replied.
“I’ll have a sprite too.” said Kira.
“And let me get a screwdriver.” Said Jason. He grinned at Kira as he completed his order. “On the rocks.”
Kira pretended not to hear his drink order and turned her attention to the previews that had begun to play on the big screen.
“Um, ok. Can I see your ID please?” asked the young waitress. Jason handed over his ID and tried to catch Kira’s gaze as the waitress quickly checked the card.
“Alright, I’ll get those drinks right out. Here’s your ID.” Said the waitress. As she left to go put in the drink orders, the lights dimmed and the movie began.
“You can share my drink with me if you want.” whispered Jason to Kira.
“No thank you,” Kira replied while keeping her eyes on the screen.
"Why you giving me the cold shoulder?" he asked. "What did i do to you?"
Kira refused to look at him so she continued to watch the movie as she spoke, "nothing."
"Then why are you acting like that? You know you like me." Said Jason as he tried to flirt.
That last statement was enough to make her turn and look at him. "I don't actually! I don't like guys who tell girls they like them and then go run off with some other girl the same night." She whispered back harshly.
"What?! You left me!" He said in defense.
"I left because Caira was drunk and embarrassing herself. You know that. You could have left with me." The waitress then returned with the drinks and set them down on the table. As the movie played, she took everyone’s food order and then disappeared again. Jason took a sip of his drink, set it down and slid it over towards Kira. Kira noticed and slid the drink back over to him.
“I said I don’t want any.” she whispered
“Look, Kira. I’m sorry I didn’t leave with you. You just took off so I thought you were done for the night.”
“Either way, Caira is your friend too. You didn’t even ask how she was afterward. So just let it go. Ok? I’m over it.”
“But why?”
“Because I’m not your type.”
“You don’t know my type.” said Jason defensively.
Kira turned her body toward Jason and looked him in the eye, “Yes I do. You love those wild chicks that are all on your jock. You like those girls that can’t take no for an answer. You like girls that follow you instead of you chasing them. That’s your type and that’s the type of girl you’re always with. Hence the fact the fact that you left with Kierra. She’s goes above and beyond to be sleazy and easy.”
“Maybe that’s not my type…anymore.” said Jason as he stared back into her eyes.
Kira broke the staring contest and turned back to the movie. “ I don’t live my life based on maybes…anymore.” she said mocking him. “Now leave me alone and watch the movie.”
“So its like that? I do one the wrong and I’m out of there?”
“Yeaup.”
“We’ll see.” he said as he turned his attention to the movie.
Jason and Kira ate and watched the movie the rest of the movie in silence. When it was over, they did not look at each other or say goodbye. Kira felt bad about how she treated him but she refused to get her heart broken by another playboy.
