Chapter 1
They told me it would be a great night,a great party, one that would leave me a forever type of memory implanted in my head.
And I, Blaire Collins being the girl I was decided to believe them and finally decide I would honor this party with my presence. After all, my two best friends, Joan and Michelle always knew what they were doing, right?
I dressed up in a dress that fitted me way too tightly exposing the little curves I had. Joe couldn’t be happier as she looked at me and exclaimed that every guy at the party would want me.
Michele’s response was a simple, “trust me, this is your coming out ball and after tonight every boy in town and that other side of town will want you.” This was indeed simple to her. It was not like boy did not come after me but I always drove them away…
The dress not only exposed the nature of my curves but it brought a whole new meaning to the word mini… it was way short, exposing my thighs and legs that I felt self-conscious of myself but that did not stop me from wearing it.
I guess trying to be a different girl for one night would not do me any harm.
With the whole of dressing got finished we went downstairs. We argued for five minutes on whose car we were driving to the party. Finally, Joe won with a smile on her face.
Trying not to get noticed by anyone in the household we went into the garage to get Joe’s car which she had parked here last night when both she and Michelle came for a sleep over at my house. If my mother or dad saw me dressed as I was they would freak out.
My parents did not see me but unluckily my brother was in the garage with his friends, checking out his brand new car. On seeing me with Joe and Michelle he scowled at us and his eyes landed on me, “please tell me mum didn’t see you like that.”
“She didn’t” I smiled.
“Where are you going?” I did not reply as I walked to Joe’s Mercedes. “Be careful and I’m not trying to get in your way.’ He walked towards me and touched my shoulder. “Just be extremely careful tonight especially with the way you are dressed.”
“That’s so sweet Jake.’ I blew him a kiss and got in the car.
Joe moved and stood in front of him. “We’ll protect her.” She said trying to sound serious. We all knew how their hate-love relationship went.
“That is what has me worried.” Jake murmured to himself as he walked away but we all heard it anyway.
Michelle frowned. She had a strong dislike for my brother, “piss off Jakey boy. We are the girls who can handle anything and bring a jerk like you to his position.”
I smiled as finally Joe started the ignition, my two friends relationship with my brother was something to see. It was enjoyable too as they always argued…or at least with Joe. Jake always argued but whenever he spoke to Michelle they would not only argue but a few insults and curses would be thrown in too. Nobody interfered nowadays.
Their relationship with the rest of my brothers was perfect… or that is what I would say as they had never met any them for they were all never around. Two of the boys and one of them who was the eldest were in the northern part of the country doing only God’s knows what and the other two were moving around the world searching for something no one would tell me but I guessed anyway.
Half of the time I thanked God for that. Having four more brothers in the house hovering was not a good idea especially as I happened to be the baby of the family and the only girl.
Our journey started after Michelle shut up about how an idiot my brother was and Joe kicked on the breaks and turned on the radio to a music channel that never disappointed s with good music. After what felt like an hour of driving towards the outskirts of town and into another town, we finally arrived at our destination. I get out of the car first and checked the surroundings.
As my eyes caresses the place slowly and intently, I realized what my friends had said would be true. This was going to a great party and a great night. The mansion was big enough and it looked very well kept. The gardens looked spectacular and whoever resided in this place was rich and enjoyed the expensiveness of life.
I was about to ask Michelle who lived here but noticed she was still in the car and changed my mind.
From where we stood I could see a few people outside and hear the blaring music coming from the inside of the house. I was sure the neighbors would call the police if this continued but as I checked the remaining of the surroundings I noticed that it was the only house in the vicinity.
“So what do you think?” Joe asked as she reapplied lipstick on her lips.
“It looks like this party won’t disappoint me.” I said not knowing that by the end of this night my life would be changed forever.
She smiled and at the same time we heard Michelle whom we loved to call Mimi throw a rather profane curse. We both turned to look at her, our expressions asking for the reason. She shrugged and smiled at us. Knowing her we knew that action meant she was not going to explain anything. “How do I look?” Joe asked after that.
“I told you already you look fine.”
“Fine was not the word I was searching for but since its coming from you, it will do.” With that she led the way to the mansion that looked like it belonged in the nineteenth century.
We moved and I could see some of the guys throwing smiles at us. “You already have guys smiling at you.” Joe whispered to me.
I shook my head. “Joe, haven’t you seen the way you are dressed. They are looking at you and Mimi.”
Mimi rolled her eyes. “They are all looking at all of us. We are that hot.”
We all laughed drawing even more attention than before. We made it to the front door which was ajar and went straight in. I noticed a few faces from school and a lot of others I did not know. “Do you know who’s hosting?” I asked Joe who was watching Mimi make her way to the other side of where we were.
“John something….I have no idea. Mimi is the one who knows this person well enough.” We took drinks from the table and tried to enjoy the party as we walked around. Mimi had disappeared completely from our sight.
We tried not to want where in heavens name she went to.
After a while we found a group of guys sitting around a table and they were all involved in a competition, drinking shots.
That was something Joe could do so easily she made me wondering how she managed to do that. :”hi guys.” They all smiled at us.
One of them eyed Joe head to toe and said. “You wanna have fun with us?” he asked her.
She smiled at him. “Sure.” The guys moved over to give us a seat but I declined knowing I could not handle those shots if I wanted to stay sober. She sat down and one of the guys handed her a shot, she took it all in and all of them cheered for her.
I smiled and walked slowly away to check out the rest of the party and how it was pumping up the flow of the night.
After a few drinks and an hour later I finally saw Mimi and she was in the hands of a guy who looked like he really enjoyed being with her. They were dancing and the center of attention to most people. I smiled and moved to the corner as I still watched the pair.
“They look amazing, don’t they?” a guy said moving to stand beside me.
“Yeah...Mimi can dance and that guy sure looks like he knows what he is doing.” I said smiling. And that was the start of a nice conversation between the two of us. He was a nice guy, not too drunk and just really okay.
For half of the night I danced with a few other people and then Greg found me and I danced with him too. Greg was the guy I had talked too earlier.
The party seemed to never die down, not for one minute. There was a fight at one point which was interesting as people edged them to go on, until a few of their friends took the liberty to stop them from killing each other.
I laughed as everything happened. When finally I got really tired and felt like I needed to sit down I went outside. I saw the fountain and amazingly there were no people on that side. I sat there watching from far as the people continued to party on. These were our best years I thought to myself smiling and taking a sip from my flute.
Greg found me yet again and sat too. “I’m leaving.” He said. “Will I ever see you again?”
I looked at him. “Unless fate plans it, I doubt it.” I said truthfully knowing my stand.
“Honest girl…I like you.” I thanked him and he left after a couple of more minutes of us talking. Few minutes later I too tailed it inside to find Joe.
I did find her and she was completely wasted…Intoxicated completely. Looking around for Mimi, I found her sited with her hands covering face. I guess this was the best time for us to head back home. I slowly tried to help Joe to the car and ordered her to remain in the car. When I went back in for Mimi I found her walking towards the car. “I feel like shit already…let’s go.” She sounded drunk but I knew if anyone could hold her drink, it was Mimi.
I drove but as we passed a small place that had shops, a restaurant and a place for filling gas. Joe started speaking. “I think I’m going to throw up.” As she continued talking the sentence ended up sounding like a very bad song.
I stopped the car immediately and carefully parked it alongside the road. She immediately got out of the car and went to the side to throw up. Mimi went to hold her hair as I checked the area. I was considered a cautious person.
I got out of the car too and went to were the girls were. “Are you okay?” I asked Joe.
She nodded. “We need to find a bathroom.”
To that we all agreed but I remained because I knew I did not need to use the place. I watched them leave and as seconds turned into minutes I started to walk away from the car and check out the place. It looked like a cool place, I thought walking around the corner as I also noticed there were more shops and a motel plus other things too.
It was almost one in the night and I was randomly walking in the street looking around with no purpose at all. I could see the car from here and they were no signs of Joe or Mimi. Knowing them, they would also be visiting the nearby open shops.
I saw a bench and a man in a hood sited there on one side. Feeling the need to go down and sit after this party to just relax as I waited for my two best friends to go back at the car.
The man did man did not look at me at all and as he was wearing a hood I did not bother checking out who he was. It was the same time I remembered a novel I had read few years ago that had a man with a hood killing people. I shook my head at my own craziness and sat down.
For a while it was quite that is until the guy asked. “Why is a girl like you sitting in a place like this at this time of the night?” his voice was as clear as it could be but yet there was a little bit of arrogance that sipped into his voice as he spoke.
I did not look at him as I leaned back against the bench and said in a low voice. “I might as well say the same thing to you”
He laughed. “You are not scared that I could be a killer waiting for young innocent girls to kidnap and murder?”
I looked at him for the first time and if it had been any darker I would have still seen him. He hadn’t removed his hood but it had slightly moved back a little that I noticed his face but at the same time did not see his eye color.
His face was perfectly shaped, I noticed. “You’re staring at me but I can offer you to take a picture...” his lips twitched into a slight smirk.
So he was one of those guys who were apparently jerks with arrogance written all over them? As my senses kicked in I could sense there was something about him too but couldn’t put my finger on it. “I’m just wondering how stupid a person can get.”
That surprised him for a second before he went completely expressionless. “You don’t recognize me?”
I rolled my eyes and with a certain amount of confidence oozing in my voice I said, “It so happens that I don’t care who you are and apparently even if you are a killer, trust me I can take you down.” I was confident he couldn’t take me down after all werewolves tended to be a whole stronger than humans.
At the same time I noticed Mimi and Joe heading towards the car so I slowly stood.
The guy leaned back and adjusted his hood back into its earlier position. “Why are you dressed like that anyway?” he asked, “were you trying to attract some guy or just get laid?” his voice sipped with sarcasm and no concern that I suddenly got pissed.
Who did he think he was to ask such a question and in such manner?
I faced him. “What is wrong with you?” I shook my head. “You are obviously a jerk and you better take back what you just said” I finished with a hiss.
He was unaffected completely as his hand touched his nose and I could see he was smiling. Seriously, were there arrogant jerks like this in every corner of the world? “Or what is it that you are going to do?” he asked.
I could not say I was ever a violent person, that’s why it was usually for me to control my wolf but right at this moment the sensation to throw something at him was very tempting. I tried to calm myself as I breathed and counted to ten in my mind. “You do realize I can punch you?”
He stood up and walked a couple of steps towards me. I did not fail to notice he was way above six feet on his feet. He stopped when he was just a mere inches but as his head was bent I could not see his face. “And do you realize I can as easily evade that too.” It was not what he said though it considerably added to my irritation but how he said that just made me really mad.
“You’re an arrogant ass and an idiot.” I turned and walked away.
A couple of steps he caught up to me and held my arm in a tight grip. I tried to get out of it but it was impossibly tight but at the same time not painful. My eyes met his with a powerful death glare that only seemed to entice him into being an even bigger arrogant guy.
I saw his face too…if it had been any other night I would have stopped to stare at his good looks…extremely good looks but his attitude had turned me off his channel. He smirked as he said huskily but in a way that added to my irritation. “You are the idiot to think you can get out of trouble or being hurt by a random guy in the streets just because of what you are.”
The shock and confusion glowed on my face. He let me go and right this moment my wolf senses picked in that he was one of us too, a werewolf…and arrogant one too. How did I not notice before? Had the drinks I had taken got into my system and messed with it? That must be it…because I always knew these kinds of things. That is what made me one of the best hunters in the pack.
He pulled his hood to cover his face again and slowly moved back. “I would be extra careful if I was you especially wearing what you are…not every man is a good guy.” With that he turned around completely and left…Leaving me standing there still wondering why the hell I had not noticed he was a werewolf.
Mimi called me and I quickly walked to them and opened the car. I could tell they had sobered up a bit but the hangover tomorrow would still be severe…thank God it was a Saturday. “Where did you guys go?” I asked trying to shake the memory of that guy from my head…after all I was never going to see him in my life again.
“shopping.” Joe answered with a bit of slur.
I looked at both of them. “What did you buy at this time of the night?”
Mimi smiled. “Naughty things, just drive us home Blaire.” And simultaneously, Joe said, “Just pain killers for tomorrow.”
That gave me a smile as I started the ignition but as soon as I stepped on the brakes Mimi asked. “Where did you go to?”
“Nowhere” I answered too quickly and thanked god she was not her full alert because she would have noticed and pressed harder.
Without further ado, I stepped harder on the gas and we drove away. Somewhere in my mind, I kept on imagining how the night would have gone if I had not met that infuriating arrogant jerk.
