The door silently opened and a tall man slipped inside. He smiled at his young daughter, a tiny girl of barely 4. She played with two rag dolls, hugging them tightly. He walked over to her and scooped her up in his arms. Tears formed in his eyes. "I'm sorry, darling," he breathed. "You'll have a better life without me."
"Is she ready to go?"
The crying father nodded. "Take good care of my baby girl," he whispered.
The short man standing next to him snorted. "You needn't worry about that."
The father handed his daughter to the man beside him. "Goodbye, my daughter," he said. "My baby Violet."
The short man walked away. The young girl cried and kicked, screaming for her father. Her father looked at her sadly, tears streaming down his face. He turned away and walked back into his house.
