Joshes pov
"Bye sweetie! Buckle up! Watch on these slick roads! Keep Alice safe! Don't die! I love you! Bye!"
My mom yells at the top of her lungs as we walk down the drive way.
"Bye momma dun!"
"Bye mom!"
I walk over to Alice's side and open the door.
"Why, thank you." Alice laughs.
"No problem, mam."
As I get into my side I notice Alice twirling her thumbs as if she was thinking to much.
"You ok?"
She looks up from the floor of the car, "I guess, I just feel bad."
"Why? Did momma dun food poison you? She's done that before!?"
"No Josh!" She giggles.
"I just feel bad because you got me such a wonderful gift, and I didn't have anything to give you at all." She looks back down to the floor.
"Listen, you didn't need to give me a gift. You are a gift, Even with the short amount of time we have together." A pain radiated through my chest.
She looks up and smiles at me.
It happens again, only this time it seems to last longer.
"And if it makes you feel better, I didn't spend a nickel on your gift."
"How!?"
"I know some people."
"Well hook me up." She grins at me.
You may already know them.
I keep my mouth shut and pull out of the drive way.
"I really like your family."
"Really?" I ask.
"They're all so alive, so fun."
"I thought we were going to have to lock gramps in a room by himself." I laugh.
"He was sweet, I never really knew my grandparents."
"Why?"
"My mom ran away with my dad."
"Is your dad in contact with his parents?"
"I don't know. He left when I was four."
"Oh."
"It's ok, don't feel bad. As soon as he left my mom went to law school and now she's a very successful lawyer."
She smiles.
"So what exactly is alexithymia? I mean if your comfortable."
"It's different for everyone. Some are born with it, some develop it over time. It's not that I don't know what being happy or in love feels like, but it's really hard for me to identify what feelings are what. At a point in my life I felt like a blank canvas, but i feel like I'm slowly getting better."
"I really had never heard of that before today."
"A lot of people haven't. my mom thought my therapist was crazy." She chuckles.
"Look your doing it right now." I say.
"What?" She looks at me confused.
"You're happy."
She smiles at me.
"Would you like to go to go out with me and my mom tomorrow? If so, you might wanna dress nice."
"I'd love to."

Alices pov
"How was your evening, sweetie?" Mom asks as she sits her purse down on the coffee table.
She's back at twelve again.
"Wonderful, how was yours?"
"Work, work, work."
"Are you still taking me out for Christmas?" I question.
Probably not.
"Yes, we'll go eat out at the nicest place in Ohio!"
Sure.
"Can I invite a friend?"
"Um, sure I guess."
"What's her name?" She begins to puts on her pajamas.
"His name is Josh."
She almost falls on the floor.
"His?"
"Yes, his."
"His!?"
She looks over joyed.
"OH MY GOD, HIS!" She shouts.
"Chill mom, your going to wake up the neighbors."
"I never thought this day would come!"
"Not to be rude-" Mom takes a deep breath.
"But I never thought you would date anyone."
"We're not dating."
"Sure."
"We're not."
"But you like him right!?"
"No."
"Yes you do! I can see it all over your face."
"Pshhh whatever."
"Well goodnight dear."
"Goodnight."
Mom crawls in bed and is out like a light.
I pull out my phone and start to text Lilly.
Alice: what's it like in Cali?
A second passes by and I already have a reply.
Lilly: HORRIBLE WITHOUT YOU. COME BACKKKK!
I laugh and rush to reply.
Alice: aww I miss you too.
Lilly: I bet you have already made tons of new friend.
Alice: no. Only one.
Lilly: CALLED IT. What's her name?
Alice: Josh.
Lilly: Josh is a different girl name. Is she nice?
Alice: oh, he's very nice.
Lilly: HE? IS HE A TWELVE YEAR OLD OR SOMETHING?
Alice: 27. What's it matter?
Lilly: OH MY. MY BABY IS COMING OUT OF HER SOCIALLY AWKWARD STAGE!
Alice: I live to make you proud mother.
Lilly: so tell me about this friend.
Alice: I met him in a record store.
Lilly: Is he cute?
Alice: maybe.
Lilly: I'll take that as a yes.
Alice: ;)
Lilly: what does he look like?
Alice: pinkish red hair, tall, idk.
Lilly: leave it to you to find a guy with pink hair :')
Alice: Its actually pretty cool. Don't hate.
I grin.
Lilly: hey I'm not hating. There is a member of twenty one pilots with pink hair, but you wouldn't know. You 'don't
Care about what they look like'.
I swear I could here her mocking me even here in cali.
Lilly: Is he nice?
Alice: very, he's such a gentleman. If I let him of course ;)
Lilly: oh your so mean. let men be a gentleman, it makes them feel better.
Alice: we're going to dinner with mom tomorrow.
Lilly: oh god. What are you wearing!?
Alice: I have no clue.
Lilly: you better dress hot.
Alice: its not like I'm trying to impress anyone.
Lilly: your trying to impress him! Duh.
Alice: Ok. Ok.
Lilly: have fun, don't let your mom drag your down :)
Alice: that's going to be hard.
Lilly: what are you going to do when you leave?
That's a question I can't answer.
Alice: Idk, I guess I'll just have to forget everything.
Lilly: If something is meant to be, it will find its way. Good luck babe. Gn. :)
Alice: gn :)
I turn my phone off and lay it on the night stand.
The clock by my bed flashes 1:00.
I better go to bed, tomorrow is a big day.
