Ryan's POV

Opening my eyes to the same bright white room, I clutched at the riveting pain in my stomach. My doctor was on his way to discuss the seriousness of my condition. I was no doctor, but things couldn't be good. The slight haze on my vision every ten minutes and the jolting sharpness that would curse my sides reminded me how much of an idiot I had been.

The door slowly creamed open and Dr Havenshaw poked his head into my room, a sympathetic gaze in his eyes. Yesterday, instead of being allowed visitors, I'd had a full check out and evaluation. These were my results. I gulped and gave a weak smile as he perched himself at the foot of my bed.

This wasn't good news. He flicked through the paper in his hands and his Adams apple bobbed nervously.

"Mr Ross" His voice was sincere and a quiet buzzing filled my ears. The haze returned.

"Yes, sir" I confirmed, trying to fill in the tense silence.

"I'm afraid this isn't the easiest thing to tell you. You've experienced both liver and kidney failure, meaning you're going to need a donor on both accounts. Unfortunately, we're extremely low on organ donors at this moment in time" I wanted him to stop talking. I knew where this was going, and I knew it wouldnt end well. I shut my eyes to off put the haze, "Youre lucky to have survived this long. Without your support machine, Im afraid you wouldn't still be with us. I think we need to discuss your options." The doctor told me sincerely as I propped myself up on the bed. What options did I have? Spend months in hospital on a life support machine, not knowing if I'll ever get out? Or get them to pull the plug on me now? Which was more convenient for me? For them?

"Okay" I gave a deep sigh and reopened my eyes to show him that I was listening.

"Do you have any family that you want around? Or friends?"

"Yes." Spencer and Brendon had been denied access yesterday, but now I needed them. Spencer at the very least. Now was the time to forget our differences. It all seemed so surreal. The end was just too soon. If there was any appropriate time to go crawling back to my ex-boyfriend, now was it.

I dialled the number on the phone, pressing the machine to my ear with a shaky hand. Spencer answered calmly, his usual tone setting me into less of a panic.

"Ryan? Hello! How is everything?" He said. I could hear Brendon fumbling in the background, but he didn't say a single word.

"Not too good. Will you and Brendon be able to make it up here now? It's sort of urgent." I sighed, sounding rather calm. My side was paining me again, and I began to wonder whether the pain had actually numbed at some point.

"Why? Of course we'll come but what's wrong?" Brendon's voice sounded this time. He'd taken the phone from Spencer.

"I'm not very well, Brendon. I need you two to make a descision with me." I explained in the most reserved manner possible.

"We're on our way." He hung up frantically

Brendon's POV

I didn't care if I had a wife. I didn't care if Ryan hated me. I was telling him today. I'd let him give me his news, probably that he would have to stay in hospital for a while. And then I'd tell him that I loved him. That I was in love with me. The now him. Not the past him. I was going to tell him that I was going to be there for him for the rest of his life. Then I'd cup his face and kiss his sweet lips. It was all going to be okay.

I would ring Sarah and we would file the divorce. She wouldn't mind. She would understand. Surely.

We pulled up in front of the hospital and were pushed and shoved down different corridors. Doctors rushed passed us and sent us spiralling in seperate directions. I huffed, this was taking too much time. I just wanted to get to Ryan. Now.

At long last, a tall man in a long white coat pulled us into a small room. A bed was pushed against the wall, wires stretched across it. I didn't want to see Ryan. Not right now.

"I'm guessing you two are Brendon and Spencer, am I right?" The doctor spoke with a tone of authority. We nodded at the same time, both distracted by the bed against the wall, "Right well, I shall leave you to talk to Ryan alone. Call me in when you have finished."

The second he left the room, I rushed to Ryan's side. Unable to hold in my gasp, I dropped to my knees.

"Ryan! What happened?" I said desperately, taking his hand in my own.

"I was an idiot." He croaked, propping himself up with pillows. The wires were coming from his body. He had tubes prodding into his mouth and circles patches along his arms.

"But you're going to be okay. Aren't you?" The silence that followed my question was worrying. If he was going to be fine, why didn't he just say so? The moment he shook his head, Spencer had joined me at his bed side.

"What do you mean 'no'?" Spencer bawled, looking more distraught than I had ever seen him before.

"I have a descision to make," Ryan spoke softly and quietly, not looking at either at us, "But I want you to make it for me. It's serious." He gulped, eyes falling shut. My eyebrows cracked suddenly and my jaw hung low.

"Ryan, just tell us. Please." Spencer said, his hand on my shoulder supportively.

"Do I live? Or do I die, Spencer?" He looked fully at Spencer, desperation in his eyes, and fear in his dilated pupils.
