Chapter 1
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. I turned off my alarm and sat up slowly. Today was my favorite day. My birthday. I quickly got out of bed and looked at my calendar to double check. I smiled big when it showed Monday February 25. My door opened slowly and my dad stepped in my room. “Good morning, daddy.” I said. For the first time since my parents divorce I saw him smile. He then said “ Someone is very cheerful today.” I threw him a look that told him I know you know what today is. He laughed and said “ Im just kidding, honey. Happy birthday. How old are you now?” I played along with his joke and said “ Don’t you remember I’m 21.” “ Oh that’s right you’re the big 16.”
I walked passed him to the bathroom grabbed my contact case and put my contacts in. I took a short look at my eyes which just changed colors from dull green to a beautiful blue. Thanks to my dad I finally got the contacts I have been dreaming for. I was begging him for months and he finally got them for me for my 16th birthday. After I looked at myself in the mirror for a minute I grabbed my makeup bag and slowly applied my makeup. I smiled as I noticed the transformation from this little girl to a mature teenager. As I stared at myself in the mirror my dad called “ Breakfast is ready.”
As I ran down the stairs I smelt eggs. I was praying he made his famous omelet. My dad has been a chef every since I can remember. When I was younger and my parents were still together he would make pizzas every night for dinner. I’m kind of glad he got out of that stage. I finally got into the kitchen and there it was a plate for me with an omelet right in the center of the plate with a little happy birthday message pressed into the eggs. I giggled and thanked him. He nodded and said “ Eat up” I sat down on a bar stool pulled the plate towards me and took a bite. I smiled when I tasted a little bit of sweetness in it.
After I ate my omelet I heard a car horn. I looked at the time on the microwave and realized my little brother was about to leave. His birthday is January 25. He just turned 7. I heard little footsteps coming down the steps and I hollered out “ Come here, Jason.” As soon as I said his name his little head popped around the corner. I held my hands out to give him a hug and he ran up to me. I held him in my arms for a minute and said “ One day when I have a child I hope he is well behaved and sweet just like you.” As he made eye contact and was about to speak we heard another car horn. I said “ It’s time for you to go to school. I love you and I will see you later.” He smiled, “I love you too, sissy”
After he got out of the house I ran upstairs to my room. I quickly went to my window and watched the bus leave. I walked to my closet to get some cute clothes. I find my swaying black skirt and a pink shirt that is low cut. I thought about how my dad would react. I quickly hid it in my bag and grabbed my other pink shirt. I put on my clothes and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I got through brushing my teeth my dad called out “ Are you ready yet?” I yelled down the stairs “ Just about let me get my heels and jacket.” I went to my room grabbed my high heels and my black leather jacket.
When I got to the bottom of the stairs my dad and older brother were standing there. I quickly sat down on the bottom step put on my shoes and stood back up. When I got back up my brother met me with a hug and whispered in my ear “ Happy birthday. I have a surprise for you, when you get home you can get it.” I nodded and said “ Thank you so much.” We all got in the car.
This year was my 2nd year of high school and my brothers final year. I was disappointed we were all growing up so fast. Soon I would be finished with high school and would have to move out. College was coming to soon. I haven’t even had a boyfriend yet. Not that I’m really worried about that but I would like to go out with friends and not be hovered by kissing and me not being able to distract myself from them. My brother can tell when I like someone and he has always been very protective of me. So the rest of this year is going to be hard because we are getting 2 new people in school today. One of my friends said she saw them and they are super cute. They are twins and they are both in 10th grade as well. I was happy when I found that out.
“Jess, you ok?” I looked up and realized we were in the front of the school and that my brother, Derick, was the one talking to me. I told him I was ok and quickly got out. As I got to the front door of the school my friend, Sammy, met me there. Me and him have been friends since 5th grade. When I walked in he said “Happy birthday Jess, hope your day has been good so far.” I smiled and said, “ Better than I have ever expected it to go.” Sammy and I have the same first period so we decided to go meet up with our friend, Justin, and his girlfriend, Kristy. Luckily they were both standing where we normally meet so we all stood there until the warning bell went off.
I snapped my head towards Sammy just when he winked and said, “ I’ll race you.” I caught on to what he was saying before he finished and I got a 5 second head start. Which didn’t do me any justice someone dropped a pen in the floor and I tripped over it. As I was just about to hit the floor Sammy caught me. I always knew that he was a fast runner but he had to have improved his running skills. I looked in his eyes and shook my head. He asked me, “ What?” “Today was supposed to be perfect. But I just ruined it.” He made me look in his eyes and he said, “You didn’t fall on purpose don’t blame yourself. I hope your ok but we need to hurry to class.” He helped me up and we ran to the classroom. The bell rung as we got in the door.
The teacher was out of the room as always so I went and sat at my usual spot. As I sat down I seen a person I haven’t seen before sitting across the room. I told Sammy and the rest of the group I would be right back. I felt their eyes watching me as I walked over to him. Normally, I wouldn’t be the one to go and talk to someone but I noticed he was all alone. As I got to his table I heard someone behind me say, “ I wouldn’t talk to him.” I snapped them an ugly look and sat down beside him.
When I sat down he stood straight up. I grabbed his arm before he could walk away and it felt weird. Something inside of me just tingled. As I looked up at him there was a hand trying to push mine away from his. I stood up and said just let me talk to you. He quickly jerked his hand away and went to another empty table. I slowly sat back down as I realized nothing was going right today. Something was really weird and my birthdays are normally the best.
I heard my name being called from the back of the room in a whisper and I walked slowly back to my table. As I sat down they were asking me questions like: “ What did he say?” “ Did he even speak?” “ Did you make him mad?” As I ignored the questions I realized that the only one not asking anything was Sammy. I looked at him and he said, “ You tried that’s all you can do. Maybe he isn’t the talking type. Just ignore it for now. If you would like we can try at lunch.” I heard we and I realized how determined I was to get him to talk by myself with no help from anyone.
When the teacher came in that was the only person I was paying attention to. Today, we were working on the different types of food for healthy and unhealthy foods. We had to work in groups. The teacher was wanting us to work in groups of 4. As I looked around everyone was in groups and I was happy because I loved my group. The teacher told every group that only one person from each group needs to go get the supplies for this project. I was the person that got picked to go. As I was back there I heard two guys fighting over who gets to go up there from one group. The teacher finally broke it up and chose someone himself from their group. I thought it had to be someone besides them because I heard sighs. I giggled a little and then heard in a deep beautiful voice, “Look I’m sorry about what I did at the table. Im just not a people person. I hope you can forgive me.” When I looked up at him it was the guy I tried to talk to. As I made eye contact it seemed as though I didn’t know how to speak.
He has beautiful blue eyes, a very slight pointed chin, and nice cheekbones. As I was looking in his eyes he continued saying, “ My name is, Lukas. I think I heard your name. Correct me if im wrong but is it, Jess?” I smiled and said “ It’s Jessica but all of my friends call me Jess.” “ Ok well I hope to talk to you again soon, Jessica.” I tried to keep in my disappointment but I nodded. When I got back to the table Lyndsy asked, “ Are you going to write?” I nodded and said, “ Don’t I always Lynds?” I started the project as the rest of the group called out different things. “Lettuce” “Chocolate” “Carrots” “Cookies” “Apples” “Caramel” “ Don’t forget burg…” I looked up to see why she stopped and Lukas was right behind me. I smiled and mouthed, “ Meet me in the hallway after class.” He walked back to his seat and as he sat down he nodded. I figured he was nodding at me.
When it was time to leave that class Lukas was already out the door. I got up and Sammy pushed my seat in. We walked in the hall and I was looking around for Lukas. Sammy saw me and asked what I was looking for. I shook my head and said, “ Nothing anymore. Just don’t worry about it.” I start to walk to my next class when Sammy stops me. I look at him with a stern face. He lets go of my arm and says, “ I’m sorry I just thought we were going to walk together to our next class.” I shake my head and say, “ No don’t be sorry I was the rude one. Yeah we can walk together.” I notice something is recently different with him and I just shook it off. I was studying his face and biting my lip when he looked at me. He gave a confusing look and asked, “ What?” I shook my head and said, “ Sorry I was thinking of um something.” “ You sure it aint someone?” I blush and look away. He laughs and says, “ We need to hurry to class or we are going to be late.”
When we arrive to the classroom the bell rang. The teacher let us come in without having to get a pass. We try to walk in at the same time and his hand brushes against mine. I quickly walk in before him and my eyes see one of the twins. For a minute I thought it was Lukas but when I got closer he looked different. I froze in place when I saw him. He was so gorgeous. He has a very slight round face, very light brown hair, and his skin was so smooth. There was absolutely no sign of a pimple anywhere on his face.
Just when I was about to walk away he looked at me and smiled. I smiled back and walked with Sammy to our seat. When I sat down he asked, “ So what was that between you and Nick?” I looked at him and asked, “ Who’s Nick?” He laughed and said, “ The one you was smiling at up at the front of the room.” I shook my head and said, “ There is nothing between us he just smiled at me so I was being polite and I smiled back.” “ Sure that’s all there is between you two. Its so obvious there is more.”, he said. I rolled my eyes and said, “ Whatever you want to believe.” When the teacher came in and I looked at the front of the room Nick was staring at me. He quickly turned around and looked at the teacher.
When class was finally over I got up pushed my chair in and looked at Sammy. He looked at me and whispered, “ Nick, your soon to be boyfriend is staring at you.” I slowly looked over my shoulder towards him and he was staring. Sammy started laughing and I slapped him. “ That’s for calling him my boyfriend. We aren’t dating and I’m not looking for a boyfriend right now.”, I said. He called me a liar and walked towards the door. I followed him and asked, “ Why did you call me a liar? I would never lie to you Sammy, and you know that.” He apologized and we walked towards the art room.
I have art right now and Sammy is down the hall in the chorus room. He hates chorus but I made him join because he is an awesome singer. I hate art so he made me join art since I made him join chorus. Today, me and him both laugh at the whole thing even though we are miserable in the classes. I mean I do love to draw but what I don’t understand is why I have to know who painted Mona Lisa and what year.
As we get to the door he tells me to wait on him after class and I just nod back. I walk in the room and I see someone at my table. Normally, I have the table all to myself but not today. I chose to just act like he isn’t there and give him his space until I realize that it’s Lukas. I sit down and start to say something to him he got up and walked to a different table. I finally just gave up trying to talk to him and I pay attention to the teacher. The teacher told us that we can just free draw. I decided to draw a picture of the ocean. When I finish drawing and look up it is almost time to leave I pack up my stuff put the colored pencils away and went and sat back down.
The bell finally rang and I quickly walked in the hallway, but Sammy beat me. I sigh and look at him. He asked, “ What’s wrong? Your supposed to be happy it’s your birthday.” I laughed and said, “ I’m not upset just wondering how you keep beating me all the time.” He bit his lip and stuttered, “ I… um… just got better at running. That’s all.” I say, “ Um… ok then.” He looked in my eyes and smiled. I asked, “ Is there something you need to tell me? It looks like you are hiding something from me.” Since the 7th grade me and him have been able to tell if one of us is lying. He looks behind him and whispers, “ Nick was in my class just now and he asked me if you are single.” I get mad and ask, “ What did you tell him?” He backed up a little and said, “ I told him you was and well he didn’t really say anything after that.” “ I told you that I am not looking for anyone right now! You shouldn’t have done that! If he wanted to know he should have came to me and asked!” I yelled. Sammy was just about to speak when I saw Nick walk out of the room and head towards us. I told Sammy that he was coming and we started to walk away.
When I got to my last class I got a book out of my bag and saw the pink shirt. I remembered I was going to change shirts at the beginning of the day. I quickly shoved it in my purse and waited 30 minutes before I asked to go to the restroom. She said, “ Someone just left with the hall pass so when they get back you can go.” I nodded went back to my seat and read a little in my favorite book ‘The Secret to Life’. I got to my favorite part when the door opened. I looked up and asked for the hall pass. He looked at the teacher to make sure I asked and he handed it to me. I got my purse and went to the restroom. I changed my shirt, went to the restroom, and went back to class. When I got back to the room I put my jacket on before I returned the pass. I gave it back and went back and read my book.
CHAPTER 2
W
hen it was time to go home I texted my dad and told him I’m riding my bus home. When I finished the text someone wrapped their arms around my head and covered my eyes with their hands. I tried to make them move their hands but they tightened their grip. When they finally moved their hands their was a big box in front of me wrapped up. I looked behind me and Sammy was standing their. I blushed and asked, “ Is this from you?” He nods and says, “ I know its huge but you have to read the card to understand why its so big. And since your dad drives a truck you can put it in the bed of his truck.” I look at him and said, “ I’m riding the bus home today. I just got through texting my dad that. So I’m going to need help getting it on the bus.” He smiled and when I turned around Derick was taking it to the bus. I looked at Sammy and said, “ He could have at least let me get the card off of the box so I could read it going to the bus.” He shook his head and said, “ You aren’t going to read it until you go home.” I frowned and when he seen me he asked, “ What’s wrong?” “ I wanted you to be there when I opened it.” He laughed and said, “ I am going to be able to see you open it I got invited over to play video games with your brother. He is writing the fake bus note right this second from your dad. Now I just got to write my note.” I laughed and ran to the bus before it left. When I stopped to wait on Sammy he was right behind be. We got on the bus and we went to our normal seats in the back of the bus. Normally, me and Sammy sit across the aisle from each other but my present was taking up Sammy’s entire seat. He sat down next to me and mouthed something to my brother. I tried to see what he said and it looked like he said thanks. I wondered why he said thanks. I let it go and looked out the window.
“ What are you thinking about?” Sammy asked. I looked at him and said, “ Nothing really. Just how weird my birthday has been.” I looked at my brother and he wasn’t where he was sitting he was gone. I looked around for him and he was up towards the front of the bus talking to a girl his age. I smiled big and watched how much chemistry they have. That made me sigh and I looked back out the window.
Sammy must have heard me cause he asked “ What is wrong?” I told him how happy my brother looks with that girl and I look away. I heard him laugh a quiet laugh. I ignored him and looked out the window to see where we are. We still had another hour before we got home. I laid my head on the window and fell asleep.
I heard someone calling my name and when I opened my eyes my head was no longer on the window. I lifted my head up and realized my head was on Sammy’s shoulder. I blushed and said, “ I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to do that.” He laughed and said, “ Don’t worry about it I wasn’t waking you up because your head was on my shoulder. Heck my arm has been asleep for 30 minutes now but I didn’t care because I knew you was tired. I just woke you up because we have one more stop before we get off.” I thought about the note that they need to give to the bus driver and I asked, “ Where’s the bus note?” He said, “ I gave it to your brother while you was laying on my arm.” I blushed and stopped the conversation until we got to our stop.
When we got there my brother grabbed the present and got off the bus before me and Sammy. When I got off of the bus I stopped and waited on him. He got off and we walked alone down the driveway. Dreadfully I had a long driveway so we were walking in an awkward silence for a minute. I decided to break the silence, “ So what songs did you sing in chorus today?” He looked at me and said, “ Very boring songs. That’s all we ever sing.” I giggle and realize we are at the front door.
When we get inside I see the box sitting in the living room. I smile big look at Sammy and he is staring at the box. I walk to the couch sit down and wait on Sammy. He walks in the living room looks at my brother and says, “ Lets go play some video games.” I stopped them and asked Sammy, “ Wasn’t you going to watch me open my present?” I heard him sigh and I looked up at him. He sat down in the lounge chair and looked at the card. Just when I started to open my present I heard the chair squeak and I saw Sammy get up. I looked at him and asked, “ Now what?” “ I’m thirsty.”, he said. I told him I could wait. He sighed and went to the kitchen. When he came back he had a glass of water in his hand. He sits down and I grab the card off of the box. When I opened the card it read:
Jess,
Today is your birthday and I want it to be a day to remember. I hope today has been great. You are such a great friend to me and before you read anymore I want you to open the box.
When I read that I looked up at Sammy and he was looking down at the ground. I then looked at my brother and he was staring at the box. I looked at the box and slowly opened it. I finally got all of the wrapping paper off and I start to take the tape of the box when I hear someone take a deep breath. I figured it was Sammy because after all the years I have known him he has always taken that deep of a breath. I get the tape off of the box and slowly open it. I get it open and there is a huge stuffed bear in the box. When I pull it out there a fluffy heart sewn into the bears hand and onto the bears body. I look at where Sammy was sitting and he was gone. I looked up to ask my brother where Sammy was and he was gone as well. I decided to finish reading the note.
To continue, the heart is to show how much I care about you and how much I want you to stay in my life forever. I want you to look at this bears foot after you finish reading this. It has a very important thing I need to ask you. But to soften you into the question. You are such a sweet and amazing girl. And you are also so beautiful. I want you to remember this every day. You are the one that everyone wants in a girlfriend and I need to ask you this before anyone else does. So now I want you to look at the bears’ left foot.
Sammy
I look at the bear and realize I have tears in my eyes. I pick up the bear and slowly look at the left foot. The foot said ‘ Jess will you go out with me?” I dropped the bear and I got up. I walk around to find Sammy and I cant find him. I decided to go outside to see if he was out there. When I got out there I saw two people walking down the road. I could tell it was my brother and Sammy so I let them walk for a while and I went back in.
I sat in the living room for about an hour and noticed a sudden breeze in the room. I looked up and Sammy was walking in the room. He came and sat down beside me. I smiled, looked him in the eyes and said, “ Yes I will.” He smiled a small smile and then frowned. I looked at the door and Derick walked in slowly with his face red. The only time his face ever got red was when he cries. I ran up to him and asked, “ Bubba, what’s wrong?” After I asked that he started crying again. Just when I turned around Sammy was right there. He grabbed both of my hands and said, “ I think you need to sit down before I tell you this.” I slowly walked to the chair and sat down. He kneeled down in front of me and said, “ There is no easy way to tell anyone this but the reason we was out walking was because your dog Lucy got out.” He grabbed my hands and continued, “ So when we noticed she was gone we went out searching for her. Well just as we called her name one of the people down the road that knows you heard Lucy’s name being called. Well to make a long story short. We found her lying on the side of the road.” My eyes started watering so I got up and ran to the bathroom. When I got in there I locked the door.
I opened my eyes and I realized I passed out. When I finally got fully awake I noticed I was no longer in the bathroom that I was in my bed. I got up out of bed and went downstairs. No body was in the kitchen so I went to the sink, opened the cabinet under the sink, and got a spoonful of dog food out of the cabinet. Just as I closed the cabinet Sammy came in the kitchen. He seen the dog food in my hand and said, “ Come on Jess this isn’t healthy. You haven’t been awake for 3 days now. And now you are acting like she is still out there. Honey look she is in a better place now you don’t need to worry.” I looked down at my hand with the dog food and sighed. I sat the food on the counter and walked up to Sammy. He wrapped his arms around me. I laid my head on his chest and started to cry. “ Shh, Jess it’s ok everything will be perfectly ok I promise. Just calm down.”
When I woke up I was on the couch with my head on a fluffy pillow in Sammy’s lap. I sighed and said, “I’m so sorry for how I have been acting. You shouldn’t have had to dealt with all of that.” He smiled and said, “ I told you I want to be here with you forever.” I sat up and when I did my arm brushed against his. I looked at him and said, “ Something is different with you. Your body temperature is like freezing and lately you will run faster than usual. And you haven’t eaten in front of me for two weeks.” He got up and said, “ Im sorry I need to go.” I stopped him and said, “ Tell me what’s wrong with you before you leave.” He told me he couldn’t tell me or he wouldn’t be able to be with me anymore.
When he got out the door I wondered how he was going to get home so I ran outside. When I got out there he was no where to be seen. That was impossible for him to be gone because he just shut the door when I got up.
The next day was Monday and I was ready for school. It was 7:40 and I was wore out. I went in my room and my window was open. I walked to the window to see what was going on. When I got to the window no one was outside. I closed the window and I felt arms wrap around my body. I turned around and Sammy was there. He smiled and said, “ I’m sorry for earlier. I feel so bad. I just cant tell you what’s up.” When I heard that I jerked away from him. He frowned and walked to my bedroom door. I ran up to him and said, “ I’m sorry I shouldn’t have reacted that way. I care about you a lot.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me to the bed. He sat down and made me sit beside him.
We talked for about an hour about random stuff. He then leaned close to me and whispered in my ear, “I’m a… vampire.” I jumped up and looked at him. He nodded and said, “ You probably don’t believe me but if you do you cant tell anyone you know because I could die.” I smiled and said “I believe you.” We decided to lay down and talk.
I woke up and looked at the clock. It was 6:00 I sat up looked around and Sammy was no where to be found. I decided to go ahead and get ready. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I stepped out of the bathroom Derick was standing at the door. He told me when I got through getting ready my present was downstairs. I smiled and nodded. I went in my room and I started to feel bad that I never got to open it.
I opened my closet and looked for my favorite pink dress. I finally found it and quickly slipped it on. When I turned around Sammy was standing right there. I jumped a little and thought when did he get here and how did he get in. He laughed and I asked him, “ Why are you laughing?” He laughed again and said, “ Derick let me in but he got mad I was here so early so I need a new way to get in.” I looked at him and asked, “ How did you know what I was about to say?” He kissed my forehead and said, “ I can read minds but I can also do a couple of other things.” He looked around the room and his eyes landed on my purse. The purse started to lift up and I looked at him. He smiled and put it on the bed. I looked in his eyes and he said, “ I basically have the power to do anything I want. I can levitate things as you can plainly see. I can read minds as you noticed. All vampires can run fast.” I stopped him and asked, “ So do you have to stay away from people when the sun is out?” He laughed and said, “ No, that’s just a myth. We don’t sparkle or glitter if you are referring to the Twilight Series. We also don’t burn either. We are basically like humans except we don’t have to breathe and we don’t have a soul. We are cold but that’s just because we don’t have blood flow.” I thought about my present downstairs and he said, “ Go ahead I’ll be right there. I’ll get your purse and bag.”
I got downstairs and sat there for 5 seconds and Sammy was right beside me. I looked confused and he said, “ All vampires run fast remember.” I smiled and grabbed his hand.
I opened the box and there was a beautiful black dress and a purple one. I started to push the box away when Sammy said there is 3 more things and a card. I smiled and looked in the box there was 2 shoe boxes and a card taped to one. I took the shoe boxes out and I saw a purple case. I took it out as well and I noticed right away it was a make-up case. I set the case next to my dresses and I opened the card. It read:
Jess,
Today is your birthday and you are now 16. You are getting old pretty fast. Soon I’ll be 19 and I’m going to be moving out. Hopefully I can be around a lot because you are my sister and I need to protect you. I know you are 16 now but I am so used to protecting you. When I move I’m going to get a house right down the road. So, anytime you need to then you can come over and stay. I’m sure I will have a girlfriend but you can still stay. Well I love you.
Derick
Today was different we rode in Sammy’s car instead. When we got to school he got out of the car and opened my door for me. I blushed and got out. I felt his fingers intertwine with mine and I smile big. We walk to class and he lets go of my hand. I look at him and ask, “ Why did you let my hand go?” He smiled and said, “ Well our friends don’t know about us yet. Remember?” I giggle, grab his hand, and said, “ I think they will notice easily.” We walk in the class and everyone was staring at us. I seen Lukas and he was giving Sammy an evil look. I whispered to Sammy, “ Why is Lukas looking at you like that? Does he know about you?” He laughed and said, “ He’s one to honey. He has been one longer than I have. He is kind of the one who changed me.” I thought to myself ‘if Lukas can change Sammy maybe Sammy can change me’ Sammy made me look at him. He said, “ I’m not changing you. I don’t want you like this. I didn’t even want to be changed but I was very sick and if he wouldn’t have changed me I wouldn’t be here right now with you. That’s the main reason I asked you out as quick as I did because Nick was about to ask you out.” I groaned and looked at Lukas. He quickly looked away and I went and sat down.
The teacher finally arrived he gave us a partner and we have to do a project over the Periodical Table of Elements. I got paired up with Lukas. I smiled at him and he smiled back. I looked at him and said, “ I really need to ask you a question but if I ask you Sammy will know it.” He slid me a piece of paper and I cleared my mind as I wrote:
I really want to become one of you but Sammy wont change me. I was just wondering if you will change me?
When he got the note he sighed and said, “ I don’t know if I can. Nick is way better at it but every time that he has done it he thinks of it as they are in a relationship. The only reason I could change Sammy is because I noticed how much you like him.” I smiled and looked over my shoulder at Sammy. He winked and waved at me. I turned back around and looked at Lukas. He was working hard on the project. I told him, “ That’s the reason I want to be changed. I don’t want him hurt and I know when I die it’s going to kill him.” Lukas sighed and said, “ Ok give me a week to get my thirst under control and I’ll do it.” I smiled big and thanked him.
When class was over and we went to the hallway Sammy said, “ I’m not letting him change you. You don’t need to be what I am. I like you for you.” I blushed and said, “ Well eventually in going to die and I wont be here for you anymore. And it will be sooner than you think. I’m already dying.” He sighed and changed the subject, “ So it’s supposed to snow this weekend do you want me to come over?” I smiled big and said, “ Of course I want you to come over it will be fun. Well that’s if it actually sticks to the ground.” He laughs and says, “ I’m pretty sure it’s going to stick.” I giggle, roll my eyes and say, “ You are such a show off. And I also have a quick question about the whole you know what thing.” He nods as to say go ahead. I smile and continue, “ So how many people here are one of you? Not to be rude just know it’s a secret.” He says, “ I know you wasn’t being rude. That guy right there in the black jacket with the Pokemon characters on the front is one. The guy in the red shirt with food stains is one. Then the better dressed hang out down here.” I smiled and said,” Wow there is a lot here.” He nods and says, “ We are at your next class.” I frown and nod back.
When I get in the class I see Nick and I ignore him. He walks up to me and asks, “ So um… I talked to Sammy Friday and he gave me some information I was kind of happy about. So I kind of need to ask you a question.” I looked at him and said, “ Look Sammy and I are dating. We knew we wanted to date each other and it just kind of happened. I know your um… well secret as well. I asked Sammy a favor but he wont do it and I’m not sure if your brother Lukas will keep his word…” He cut me off and asked, “What is it?” I took a minute to figure out how to word it and I finally asked, “ If Lukas wont do it will you change me?” He breathed heavily and sat down.
I waited for about a minute, which seemed like forever, when he finally said, “ I will have to get my thirst under control. Do you think you could wait that long?” I nodded and asked, “ So what all ‘gifts’ I guess you would call it do you have?” He looked at the table and sighed. I started to put my arm on his shoulder but I stopped. I supposed he saw me because he looked up as soon as I moved my hand. He smiled and said, “ I… umm… well we each have our own special little gifts, Samuel more than others, but we have at least one gift.” I looked at him interested not only for what he said but because that was the first time that I heard someone, besides the teachers, call him Samuel. He continued, “ My brother Lukas he can’t read minds like Samuel, although Samuel can only read then from a certain distance.” I stopped him and asked, “ First, what’s the distance that he can read minds? And, second, why do you call him Samuel?”
“ Um… the longest distance he has told me is maybe 15-20 feet if that. And I don’t usually call him that it’s just we have more respect the way we are.” I looked around and whispered mostly to myself, “ Well he likes Sammy.” He said, “ Sorry.” And that’s the last thing we said for the rest of class.
When I got in the hallway Sammy was already there reaching his hand out for mine. For the first time I looked at the other people in the hall. Everyone was staring at our hands and at us. He giggled and said, “ I guess it’s going to take a while for people to stop liking you.” I looked at him and said, “ What do you mean liking me?” “ If you haven’t noticed the guys stare at you like your something to just snatch up and eat. Even worse than I do.” I shivered and he laughed. We got to my last class which we have together.
When we walked in the room the seats were changed around. The seats were pushed together in groups of 4 and 5. So there was a very rare chance that Sammy and I would sit together. He smiled and said, “ Our seats are in the back of the room.” I smiled when I heard him say OUR seats. When we got to our seats the other two names on the other desks reminded me that both Lukas and Nick have this class. For the first time I realized their last names are Taylor. I smiled and he said, “ You really didn’t know their last name?” I shook my head and was glad I found something to distract myself from mine and Nicks conversation earlier.
CHAPTER 3
W
hen Nick came in the room I was happy that I was standing at the door. I stopped him and said, “Don’t mention the conversation we had earlier to Sammy.” He looked at the back of the room and nodded once. I finished getting 4 papers of all 5 worksheets and headed back to my seat. When I got halfway there I looked up and Lukas was in his chair. I looked at the door and looked back at him. They were all laughing. Laughing at me. I flushed and went to my seat. I put the papers in the middle of the table and laid my head down. I felt a hand on my shoulder but it was the wrong side for it to be Sammy. I looked up and the teacher was standing to the left of me. She smiled and asked, “ Sweetie, are you okay? Do you need to go to the nurse?” I shook my head. There was a voice from beside me, and I knew exactly who it was, Sammy said, “ I’ll keep an eye on her to be sure she is okay, I promise.” She looked at him, I guessed she was about to refuse but she stopped for a second, then said, “ If she starts feeling bad you can take her to the nurse.”
When the teacher left he grabbed my hand. I smiled and tightened my grip over his cool hands to be sure he doesn’t let go. I sighed and asked, “ I want to know what ‘gifts’ Sammy has but what can you two do?” Nick looked at Sammy, it seemed as though he was asking him if it was okay, and Sammy nodded. Nick was the first to answer my question, “ Well, I have quite a few but not as many as your boyfriend.” I gave him an evil look, glanced at Sammy and he was staring at me. Then Nick continued, “ I can of course run fast. Then there is like a list; I can see the future, feel and control how people can feel, and then a very unique one I can see everything that someone has ever seen before. That’s how I knew you two were dating.” Sammy was still staring at me when Nick finished talking. I sighed and said, “ I guess you was going to eventually figure this out yourself but I convinced them to change me. I really didn’t care which one but I didn’t want to be a human anymore. What’s the point in a human life?” I stopped when I seen him getting mad. He finally snapped and screamed, “ Why do I have to keep telling you I don’t…” He stopped and quickly calmed down. I looked at Nick and it clicked that he was the reason that Sammy got so calm. I looked around the room and everyone was staring. I keep looking but I couldn’t find the teacher. Just then the door opened and the teacher stepped in the room. The teacher cleared her throat and everyone quickly turned around to look at her. She smiled and said, “ In a week we are going to have a new student and I want you to treat him/her with the up most respect. Not only for the student but we will also have a guest speaker…” I heard Sammy laugh and I looked at Nick first and he was looking at the teacher still. So I turned my head to Sammy and he whispered, “ It’s the professor to the college I want to go to.” I smiled and said “ What a coincidence.” He nodded and said, “ Pay attention this is important.” I quickly turned my head to the teacher and she was saying, “…we need to be polite to them both. Then the week they get here we are going to start with Napoleon. That lesson is really difficult so we need to pay close attention.” She paused and looked up at the clock. She sighed and said, “ I got so sidetracked speaking so since we only have 10 minutes left of class you may talk amongst yourselves. Just don’t get to loud.” As she stopped talking I looked around the classroom. There was a group of 4 in front of the room. Then close to it was another group but it contained 5. Then also in the front row was another group of 4. Then the next row was a little different there was only one group of 4, which was in the middle, then the other outer groups were groups of 5. The final row was my row and it was the same as the front.
“ Jess, you okay?” Nick asked. I looked over at him and nodded. When I looked next to me to look at Sammy he wasn’t their. Then I heard behind me, “ Babe, I’m behind you.” I jumped turned around and he was standing there with my bag on his arm, my purse in his hand, and his other hand out for mine. I stood up, grabbed his hand, and got my purse from him. The bell rung and we giggled. We waited for Nick and Lukas and walked out of the room. Lukas was next to me and Nick was next to Lukas. I laid my head on Sammy’s shoulder and he wrapped his arm around my waist. I looked up at him and he said, “ Hang on I need to go to the restroom.” I told him I needed to go to my locker anyways and he could meet me there. He went in the bathroom and Nick followed him. I looked at Lukas and he said, “ I’ll walk with you just in case you get in trouble.” I rolled my eyes and let it drop.
We got to my locker and he said, “ Okay I’ll do it.” I looked at him confused. He sighed and explained, “ This weekend I’ll change you but if you need to tell your parents you have to change them. Sammy will have to stay with you all the time so you don’t kill anyone as a newborn. Do you have any siblings?” I opened my locker and said, “ Yes, a 7 year old brother and a 18 year old brother.” He looked at me with wide eyes and said, “ We need to keep a constant eye on you. Newborns have very little self-control it’s horrible.”
“ Do children do like in twilight and not be able to control the way they destroy things?” He nodded and apologized. I sighed and felt someone wrap their arms around my waist. I looked at Lukas and he giggled. I turned around and it was Sammy. He smiled and kissed my cheek. I felt heat rush through my cheeks and I turned my face away. He made me look at him and he said, “ You are so beautiful.” I rolled my eyes and tried to turn around. He reached into my locker and grabbed my notebook and my wallet. I will never get over the situation that he can now read my mind. Im not used to it. I looked at Lukas and he winked at me. I smiled and said, “ Thanks Lukas I’ll pick it up from JCPennys this weekend.” He nodded and I looked at Sammy. He was giving me a weird look and I said, “ Will you drive me there and back home please?” He smiled and said, “ Of course, baby. I’ll get there at 11:00 so you can sleep some.” I shook my head and said, “ I don’t want to sleep in I want to shop early.” If the information that is in the twilight series is true then I need to go early. I smile, “ I’m going to try to convince my dad that I will be at my friends all weekend and we may be camping. At least I wont be lying about the camping part. No matter if I go alone or you take me I’m going camping.” He said, “ Okay I don’t want you in the woods by yourself so I’ll go. Oh, and before you ask there are werewolves they just don’t live here in Houston.”
I have lived in Houston, Texas since I was 10 but I don’t belong here. When I was younger I lived in New York City, New York. It was actually very strange. I have always been the kind to want to travel. No matter where to as long as I end up somewhere. I prefer the country though, it soothes me. That and when I do my photography I get my inspiration from here. I love to take pictures rather it’s of horses or just something that catches my eye.
“ Jessica, are you okay?” I hear my name and look at Sammy. He was looking concerned so I told him I’m fine. He smiled and looked away. I finally noticed we were on the bus in the very last seat on the right side. Normally we sit towards the back but not this far. He made me look at him and he said, “ I don’t usually use other peoples quotes but this one has been on my mind all day. ‘ the first kiss between two people is something really good in life’. I know we haven’t had our first kiss yet but I know when we do it will be perfect…” I laid my head on his shoulder and he said, “ Get some sleep, sweetie.” I smiled and closed my eyes.
When I woke up again I was no longer on the bus I was in my bed. I sat up and looked around trying to find Sammy. He rushed to my side and said, “ Good morning, beautiful.” I blushed and looked away. I heard a gentle laugh. I looked at him when I realized he said good morning instead of just hey. I asked him, “ What time is it?” He looked at me confused and said, “ 6:30. Why what’s wrong?” I got up and ran downstairs. The house was still pitch black. When I started back up the stairs Sammy was standing there and asked, “ Your father is going to get up and yell if you wake him up this early on a Saturday.” I heard Saturday and I froze.
I woke up looked at the clock and it was now 7:50. Sammy was sitting on the edge of my bed. I was wondering what he was thinking and then he turned and looked at me. That’s when I realized I had fainted. I asked him, “ Has my dad left?” He shook his head and said, “ He’s downstairs.” I jumped up and ran downstairs. He heard me and asked, “ You hungry.” “ No dad I’m good.” I lied and then asked, “But hey my friend Cindy and her mom are going camping this weekend” ~ that part wasn’t a complete lie she was going camping~ “ and she was wondering if I could go with her.” I already had a plan set up I was going to camp at the same campsite but a little farther so I could be with Sammy. I had already texted her to see if she would help me out with making him believe it. Cindy also knows about vampires because both her and her mom were changed in 1990. Her mom had just turned 33 and Cindy turned 17. Cindy’s mom, Catherine, was 16 when she had Cindy. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I almost missed my dad say, “ Okay fine just be home before 10 Sunday night please.” I nodded and ran upstairs to my phone. I called Cindy and when she answered I said, “ He said yes” and I hung up.
Sammy had all of my things together when I came out of the bathroom. He sighed and said, “ Okay you can tell Lukas not to do it I will do it when we get to the campsite.” I picked up my phone, called Lukas and told him what Sammy just said, and hung up. I asked if he would get me a glass of milk and some chocolate before it happens today. He giggled and ran downstairs. I took that chance to text Lukas and say ‘ Just in case can you still come to the campsite in case he backs out on doing it?’ Just when I finish the text and put my phone on the bed Sammy walks in. I smile at him and he walks up to me. He asked, “ Are you ready or do you still need to pack some more things?” “ I just want my new purple dress and my black high heels. Then I need my tooth brush.” I said. He told me, “ Your dress and shoes are packed and I’ll go get your toothbrush and stuff.” Just as he left the room Lukas pops his head in my window. He looks around and then said, “ I’ll be out of town today but I’m sending Nick just in case. He said he fed enough this morning so he has enough control to be able to do it.”
Just as Lukas left Sammy came walking in. He had my toothbrush and tooth paste in one hand and a bag in the other hand. I looked at him and asked “ What’s in the bag?” He laughed and said, “ Well I got some water from the fridge to make it look like a real camping trip.” he paused, sighed slightly, and continued. “ Then the other is the blood you are going to need. That’s why I’m glad you and her chose this campsite.” I walked up to him and he wrapped his arms around me. He kissed my lips softly and I felt my heart speed up. He sighed and said, “ I’m going to miss this.” I looked at him confused and he said, “ I’m talking about your warmth and you heart beat.”
When I got outside a white 2004 Chevrolet was sitting in the driveway. I looked up at Sammy and he said, “ Go read the card.” When I got closer to it, it was a beautiful truck. There were no dents, no paint was scratched, it was in mint condition. I picked up the card and it had Jess on the front. I opened the card and it read:
Jess,
It’s been about two months since I last seen you. I’m so sorry that I missed your birthday. I hope to see you in a couple of months during my summer break. I’m sure your wondering and yes school is great. But I have a class in about 5 minutes so give me a call sometime. I sent my schedule so you can know when im free to talk. Talk to you soon. I love you.

I looked at Sammy and said, “ This is from my cousin in Alaska.” He nodded and I realized it was already opened before I even opened it. I glared at him and he apologized. I accepted his apology and said, “ Please don’t do it again.”
I woke up in the passenger seat of my new truck and smiled. I sat my seat up and Sammy kissed my cheek. My stomach growled and that made me look to see what time it was. It was 5:30. I looked at Sammy and said, “ I thought we were going to be at the campsite by 3.” “ I made a quick stop by my moms house. Then I stopped and got you a small last meal. Oh and I got my meal as well.” I shivered and he stopped talking. We both know I’m not used to the whole blood drinking part yet. He chuckled and reached in the backseat. I quickly grabbed the wheel for him and he said, “ I got it.” I smiled and he pulled the bag out of the back. I let go of the wheel and grabbed the bag. When I looked at it, it was from McDonalds. When I opened the bag I smelt fries and chicken nuggets. My mouth started watering and I quickly swallowed.
I finished eating and I looked at the time again. It was now 6. I purposely took my time eating but I didn’t try to take 30 minutes. I wanted to enjoy my last meal before I become a vampire. I know I wont want food anymore which is fine with me it’s just living in the house with my little brother. I could easily lose control and kill him. I looked at Sammy and said, “ I think I want to wait just a little while longer before I get changed or something because I’m going to endanger my baby brother.” He grabbed my hand and said, “ Look, Sweetie, if you want to be changed we will protect your brother. Cindy can control her thirst a lot and we can change your dad and older brother.” I sigh and look out the window.
Sammy gets my attention back and I smile a small smile. He kisses my cheek and says, “ We’re at the campsite.” He winks and is at my door before I could ever blink. He opened my door and I quickly got out. I looked at him and said, “ I didn’t get my birthday present I wanted.” He asked, “ What do you mean?” I bit my lip and said, “ I think you want to wait but I wanted my first kiss before I become…” I paused, looked around, and whispered, “ a vampire.” He leaned in and said, “ When it’s the right time we will.” I nodded and sighed. He got the tent out of the bed of the truck and set it up.
The tent was an ten person tent. It had a little shelter part in the front so if it rains you cant get wet, about 7 male adults could fit under that. I walked to the front of the tent and took my shoes off before I went in. When I walked in he was putting a lantern in the front room for tonight. To the right there was a small room with a twin air mattress in the middle. The room could sleep at least 4 adult males and 2 children. In the back of the room was a small closet looking thing. I rolled my eyes and thought about my hanging clothes that are folded up in my night bag. On the wall straight ahead was a small window that you also zip closed at night. There was 3 lanterns in there one under the window and two laying on the bed. I rolled my eyes and I went in the other room. To get there you had to pass back through the first room.
The first room now had a small dinning table and 2 chairs. I walked around the table and went into the other room. This room was smaller you could only fit 2 adult males and 1 child. At the back of the tent their was two other rooms that connected with the bedrooms only. The first bedroom I walked in could fit one adult male and one child. I walked through to the other room and it could fit only one adult male.
Just as I was about to leave that room Sammy brought n a portable toilet. I laughed and said, “ You know about 2 minutes up the road there is a bathroom.” He nodded and said, “ I know you don’t care for public restrooms. So I decided to get this.” I smiled and thanked him. I walked back to the front room and noticed that the rooms were blocked off with a part of the tent that can zip up. They were all unzipped right now. I noticed that in the room that can hold two male adults and one child there was now a small twin air mattress in there.
Sammy then came walking in the front room. I pointed to the air mattress and asked, “ I thought vampires couldn’t sleep?” He laughed a deep laugh and said, “ That’s just a myth.” I thought about past encounters I have had while I was camping. He then asked, “ Since you’re a little worried and your room is the biggest in the tent would you like me to put my mattress in your room?” I sighed out of relief and nodded. As I sat down at the kitchen table he was laying the mattress down in my room. I looked out the tent and Cindy was walking up. I seen her looking around and I said, “ He’s in my room, well actually our room. Come in and have a seat.” She has one of those figures any girl would die to have. Her walk was even more impressive. She walked around like she was dancing, and sometimes I believe she is.
When she was younger she was a great dancer. Her and I were in the same dance class she was always the better dancer between us. I tried to quit plenty of times to do gymnastics instead, but she pushed me to stay and work hard. But two years later I ended up getting injured and she has felt bad every since. I had a broken leg and a sprained wrist. I have told her plenty of times not to worry about it. Then, after I got better I joined gymnastics and have been happy with it every since. I have been to 15 competitions and have won 13 out of the 15.
“ So why are you and him in the same room?”, she asked me after I got out of my thoughts. I look behind me in mine and his room and said, “ I’ve had many bad experiences camping.” She nodded and said, “ Oh yeah, I remember you telling me about it when you all got back.” I smile and feel hands wrap around my waist. I look up and Sammy looks into my eyes. I look back at Cindy and she is getting up. I apologize and say, “ Hey Hun, lets not do this in front of her.” She laughed and said, “ Don’t worry about me. I got to go anyways. I’ll see you soon.” She winked at me smiled and walked out. I looked back up at Sammy and he leans in and kisses me. The kiss was deep and passionate. The kiss ended to soon. I looked in Sammy’s eyes and smiled big. For the first time I saw Sammy’s smile stretch from ear to ear. I gave him a soft kiss and got up.
Sammy and I decided to go to Wal-Mart to stock up on food for the weekend. As we were on the way I remembered that we are out of school all next week. I text my dad and ask, ‘ Since I’m out all next week can I stay here with Cindy for 4 more days?’ This Wal-mart has been my favorite since I was 5. It’s smaller than any other Wal-mart. The aisles may have less things but they always have what I want. My phone started vibrating and I was getting a call from my dad.
Chapter4
W
hen we got to Wal-mart I was on the phone with my dad. I could tell he was upset, so I decided to try to calm him down, “ Dad, it’s only 4 more days trust me I will be back before you know it. Plus, I’ll be with Cindy.” Sort of. I’m sure if she dropped in today she will drop in more. A lot more. I could tell he was thinking about it because he was mumbling to himself. In the 16 years of my life any time he mumbles he is going to say yes. He took a long pause and said, “ Fine four more days and that’s all. You understand?” “ Yes dad I understand. I love you, dad. I got to go.” said. He sighed and said, “ Love you, too, Hunny.” I hang up and feel a cool breeze. I look at the drivers side and Sammy wasn’t there.
I feel a hand on my arm and I jump. I look at him and say, “ I still haven’t gotten used to you and yet I’ll be doing that soon.” He laughs and I realize that the sun is starting to set. He lifts me out of the car and I was trying to get used to the vampire thing.
When we got inside there was a guy standing at the front handing out some papers. I got one and realized it was coupons. The only things we need that is on sale is toilet paper, cheese, sandwich meat, and bread. Before we started walking around shopping Sammy told me that I can go get my nails done if I want. I asked, “ Will you go with me?” He laughed and said, “ Of course I will Sweetie. I’m going to get the groceries really quick though.” I nodded and went to the nail salon in Wal-mart. I sat down to wait on Sammy when a woman came up to me. She looked to be in about her 60s. She was about five feet two inches so she was shorter than my five feet four inches. She asked, “ Are you ready?” I smiled and replied, “ Not yet I’m going to get my nails done when my boyfriend gets back. How much is it for acrylic nails and to get your eyebrows done?” She grabbed my face in her hands and looked at my eyebrows.
Her accent is one that anyone would recognize. But she is Chinese so of course she would have an accent. I heard a deep laughing quite a distance away from me. One laugh I recognized and the other was new. The first laugh was deep so I knew it was Sammy’s but the other was a soft laugh. One that belonged to an angel or something angel like. Just then the woman let go of my face and said, “ All together it will be 45 dollars.” I nodded thanked her and looked behind me. I saw him about 30 to 40 feet away with a beautiful, skinny girl.
She has beautiful, long blonde wavy hair. Her hair goes about halfway down her back. I was trying to read her lips to see what they were talking about but both of their lips were moving to fast. Impossibly fast. Just then they both looked over at me. I gasped when I seen how beautiful her face was. They started heading towards me and I looked down. She is the type of girl that any guy would drop their girlfriend to be with. She looks like she belongs on a runway.
I looked back up and Sammy and the beautiful angel-like woman was right there. Sammy introduced us, “ Jess, this is Katheryne or Katie. Katie, this is Jess or Jessica whichever you prefer. Katie is Nick’s girlfriend.” I smiled when he said Nick’s girlfriend. I hear the woman behind me ask if I was ready. I looked at Sammy and he nodded. I told her just a minute. “ It was nice to meet you Katie. You ready, Hunny?” He looked at Katheryne and said, “ I’ll see you at school.” She nodded and walked swiftly towards the door.
I followed the Chinese woman to the back and sat down in the only chair back there. She told me to lean my head back and when I did she immediately started putting wax in between my eyebrows. I close my eyes but then I hear a sigh. The woman puts a piece of cloth on the wax just as I ask Sammy, “ What’s wrong, baby?” I noticed he was staring at me and he said, “ Your just so beautiful, I don’t know why you have to do all of this to yourself.” “ All I’m going to do now is let her finish my eyebrows then I’ll be done.” He smiled a small smile but it wasn’t my favorite smile. I could tell he meant I didn’t have to get anything done at all.
I could tell something was on his mind. I asked him, “ What’s wrong?” He ignored me and walked out of the nail salon. When the woman finished I paid her and looked for Sammy. Ii didn’t see him. Surely he wouldn’t run out of Wal-mart, since he is so fast. I went out to the car and I could see his very still figure in the passenger seat. He wasn’t moving and he wasn’t breathing either. I was worried about him but when I got in the car he started breathing. I remembered that he could go like 3 days without breathing.
I sat there for a few minutes and when he didn’t say anything I started the engine. I pulled out of the parking spot and remembered the groceries. He sighed and said, “ I put them in the trunk already.” I looked at him smiled just a little and started down the road. I didn’t notice how fast I was going until Sammy told me to slow down. I looked at the speedometer and I was going 105 mph. I slowed down to 85 mph and stared blankly at the road. I saw a car slow down ahead of me and I quickly moved my foot to the brake. By the time I got to where the car was whatever happened had disappeared. I looked at the side of the road and there was nothing there.
I sped up to 85 again and stayed at that pace for about 30 minutes. I passed the entrance and sighed. Sammy spoke for the first time for about 40 minutes and said, “ There is another entrance ahead, but go slow because its kind of hidden.” I slowed the car down to about 25 and looked for the entrance. There was a small wooden sign and that’s the only thing that would make someone realize the drive was there. I decided to go slow so I can talk to Sammy. “ So what’s wrong? You haven’t said one thing to me since we left Wal-Mart.” He sighed and said, “ I’m sorry it just upsets me that you get your nails and eyebrows and things done when you don’t need it.” I pull in the drive next to the tent and I look at him. But when I looked over there he was already out of the car.
I got out closed the door and said, “ I only do that to look better for you. I thought you would appreciate it but I guess not.” Where we are camping we are right above the lake. I took the stairs behind the tent and headed to the water. I didn’t realize I was counting the stairs until I reached the bottom. There was 23 stairs I looked behind me at how far it is from the tent.
The tent seemed so far. I turned back around and seen how romantic the walk way is. I got halfway to the lake and I felt something wet hit my foot. I looked up at the sky and it was clear no clouds in the sky at all. Then I realize it’s me. I was crying. I felt so pathetic crying over a tiny fight which wasn’t even considered a fight. I got to the end of the walk way and took my sandals off. I laid them a distance from the edge and looked down into the water.
It was so romantic when the sun started setting. Our campsite was the only one to have this view. No other site had a walkway all the way to the water and over it a little. I sat down and let my feet hang over the edge. My feet just barely skimmed the water. I felt a hand on my shoulder and when I looked up it was Sammy. He apologized and I told him that he shouldn’t be sorry I should be the one who is sorry. I remembered I had my bathing suit on so I got up took my shirt and shorts off. I walked back some dropped my clothes down on the walkway then ran and jumped in the water.
When I came back up Sammy was gone. I looked all around and he was just gone. Then, all of a sudden I felt something underneath me lifting me up. I looked down and it was Sammy. I started giggling and he threw me in the water. I came back up and splashed him. I swam up to him and said “ It’s got to be now or never.” He sighed and leaned in slowly.
I felt a sharp pain on my neck and I knew this was the moment there was no turning back. I knew that I wanted my body to end up in water after I die. So if tonight was the night I was in the right place. I heard a high pitch scream and I realized it was my own. The pain was worse than anyone could ever imagine.
When I opened my eyes I was no longer at the campsite I was in a bright room. I focused my eyes and I realized I was at a hospital. I looked around for Sammy. Just then a nurse came in and said, “ Hey sweetie, its nice to see your awake my name is Susan.” I had to struggle to ask her, “ Where’s Sammy?” I could tell with the look that was on her face that the answer she was about to give me was not what I wanted to hear. She took a deep breath and said, “ He left earlier. He told me to tell you he hopes to be back when you wake but that was almost an hour ago and he hasn’t called or anything.” I looked down slightly and she didn’t have anything around her neck but I wasn’t going absolutely insane for blood. Something was up so I decided to ask her, “ How do you know Sammy?” She giggled and said, “ I’m his mother.” I froze and asked, “ Are you a…” ~ I looked around to make sure no one was listening first and continued~ “ a vampire?” She nodded and I realized that she knew I was one.
I decided to close my eyes for a few minutes and next thing I knew there was a knock on the door. I heard a male voice and right away I realized it was Sammy. I opened my eyes and next thing I knew I was at the door in Sammy’s arms. He pushed me back a little and said, “ I need to teach you how to control your speed…” ~his voice lowered a little~ “ and your strength.” I unwrapped my arms and apologized. Sammy suggests that we should go to the woods to practice my strength, speed, and most importantly my thirst.
We get to the woods and I ask, “ Has anyone changed my dad or my brother?” He smiles and says, “ Nick should be changing them right now.” I took a deep breath and I smelt blood. This blood was different though it wasn’t humans blood it was animals, and it was driving me crazy. I thought about how I've passed at least 50 to 100 humans today and their blood didn't affect me. i took a deep breath and then looked at Sammy, He smiled but held me back.
I felt myself lean forwards as the animal came closer. I could now tell it was a deer i was about to pounce on. The deer was maybe 100 feet away when Sammy let me go. I looked up and he nodded in approval. I took off running and the deer was drained in 2 seconds. I smelt another deer coming but this time it was a buck. I felt Sammy next to me in less than a second. He said, " Stay here." I looked away and when I looked back he was gone.
I started searching for him and as i turned around Lucas was right there. I smiled and said, " Ok it was only you. Where is Sammy?" He frowned and looked at the ground as if he knew something I didn't. I put my hand under his chin and lifted his head up so he would look in my eyes. He sighed and said, " He is that way." He pointed to the left as I looked that way there was a fire staring up. As I stood there frozen watching the flames grow higher and higher I felt Lucas tugging on my arm. I then ran vampire speed towards the fire. As i topped the hill someone stopped me. I looked to see who it was and Sammy was frowning at me.
