Chapter One: Far from Home
"How boring is it" Samantha said as she was lying down her bed doing nothing but play around with her tablet. Currently she's waiting for her mom to arrive home, since she has something urgent to say. Summer was boring as ever for Samantha since she has nothing to do but stay at home. Someone knocked the door of her room.
"Come in" she answered still looking at her tablet browsing over some new released clothes
"Young lady iniintay na po kayo ng mama niyo sa baba" one of their maid informed her
"I'll be down in a bit" Samantha answered and stood up from her bed and hurriedly went downstairs
She just found her mom sitting on the sofa while talking to someone important on that phone, busy as ever Sam said her mind. Both her parents are not always at home but busy running their business but Sam is used to it.
"Alright take care Amie, I'll see you tomorrow" her mother said on the phone talking to her sister also Sam's auntie.
"Why do every time I come home, I feel like your growing taller and taller" her mother said as she gave Sam a hug and Sam giggled a bit.
Despite she has a long distance with her parents, they never forget to call or remember Sam. Sam is not the typical rich kid like any other she grew up to be very down to earth and a smart intelligent young lady.
"Mom what is it you want to say?" Sam asked eagerly looking at her mother
"Well sweetie I was thing that" She said as she was caressing Sam's hair
"That?" Sam asked looking at her mom intently and hoping it would be an out of the country surprise
"That since you have nothing to do this summer break, your Auntie Amie and I decided that you and Ingrid should have a summer job in our company, to train you girls since we need to prepare you for the family business"
After hearing her mom Sam couldn't utter a single word and she was left dumbfounded. Thinking of it makes her want to cry a river of tears. What else can she do they own a huge company which is passed on generations after generations since their great grandparents started it. Their family owns the Rodriguez Group of Companies. Sam then snapped back into her sense.
"Mom are you that serious!?" Sam burst out but her mom just gave her a smile
"Of course dear you'll be COO soon, you're smart and talented and I know you'll learn fast" her mom said
"Isn't it too unfair for me mom? I mean Oppa started training for CEO when he finished college and your rushing me to train for a position like that now and I haven't even step into college"
"It's never too late start early"
"I don't want to do it mom"
But her mother just furrowed her eyebrows and it wasn't a good thing.
"My decision is final Samantha no more buts and excuses" her mom said full of authority
Sam was about to utter a word but her mother cut her off.
"No buts, I need to rest Samantha I have a meeting with some clients tomorrow"
Her mother said and walked toward their grand staircase, Sam just watched her mother she can't even move and it was the first time that her mother pushed her into something she doesn't want to do. Running on her mind she and Ingrid haven't even plan for summer yet and here they are stuck to some summer job. Sam just ran upstairs trying to hold back her tears as she reached her room she slammed the door shut and dived into her bed, buried her face on the pillow.
"arff"
Sam's toy Pomeranian suddenly barked. Sam is still asking herself what did she did wrong to have a punishment like this after all she graduated as Valedictorian last March. Questions were running through her mind. Sam always looked perfect in the eyes of her family, friends and schoolmates but deep inside she doesn't want people to look at her that way. Shen the sat down on her bed and her little dog ran to her lap Sam ran her finger through Bonnie's soft white fur.
"What am I going to do Bonnie? Summer Training juts sounds like punishment to my ears" Sam said while looking at her pup who's busy playing with a little totoro stuff animal.
What am I thinking? Of course Bonnie wouldn't answer me Sam though in her mind. Sam got back to her senses when her phone rang, she immediately got it from her side table and tapped the screen.
[Sammmmmmy! Hindi ko kakayanin ito!]
I moved my phone away from my ear. Who else could it be but her cousin Ingrid, who has a really loud voice.
"Geez lower down your voice Ingrid, yeah I know mom told me"
[But its summer I don't want work or train all summer]
"The feeling is mutual, but what can we do? you know our parents"
[What if we run away?]
"Hell no! You want us to get in bigger trouble!? And we have to place to go"
[But Ate Em told me it's no fun there even Ate Saf said they both wanted to run away back then but mom caught them]
We have nowhere to go, what do you expect we'll stay on hotels?"
[I don't know either, I know an idea I'll ask MIchie]
On the other side Ingrid who is really pissed of what her mom just told her, what can she do now? Both her older sisters are not around to defend her. Ingrid dropped the call since she has no answer nor idea on where they should go if they wanted to run away. She then immediately contact Michie , their best friend. After a few minutes Michie answered her call and smile formed Ingrid's lips.
"Michie you need to help me and Sam"
[Why?What's the problem]
Ingrid then tell their bestfriend the summer job thing they will undergo this summer.
"Please Michie, I know you know a place"
[I don't know, I mean how hard can it be right?]
"Gezz it's no fun, parang awa mo na Michie"
[Fine if I just don't love you and Sam I wouldn't do this. We have a rest house in somewhere in the province of Legazpi]
"You're a life saver Michie! Thank you Thank you!"
[I'll just send you the complete address, I need to go]
Michie dropped the call and jumped out of joy dahil makakatakas na sila sa so-called summer jov punishment. Finally they can run away from the nightmare they are about to face.
"What now?"
[Michie knows rest house far from the city]
"Really? So what do we do?"
[We'll just stay there for the meantime they we'll face our consequences when we have enough fun. I'll meet you at the park tomorrow 5:00 am sharp don't be late and don't let anyone catch you]
"Alright alright"
After telling her cousin about the news, she ran toward her walk in closet to get her stuff done. She doesn't know what to pack and just kept on filling her luggage with her things and clothes. On the other side Sam was also doing the same but running on her mind the consequence they will face after running away from their parents.
It was early morning when Ingrid got up. She went straight to the bathroom from a quick bath before she leaves. She quietly got out of the house knowing their house is filled with bodyguards. She has to climb up their fences just to get out. She stayed by the park to wait for her turtle moving cousin for hell knows maybe she's still fast asleep by this time of hour. It was still dark.
"Ingrid!" someone shouted that caught her attention it was Sammy so she immediately hushed her.
"Quiet you want to wake up the whole neighborhood?" Ingrid said
"Whatever let's just go already" Samantha rolled her eyes
Ingrid just shakes her head. They walked out of the subdivision hoping they could hail a taxi.
"You do it" Ingrid pushed Sam
"No you do it!" Sam shrieked
"Ugh, you do it" Ingrid
In the end it was Ingrid who hailed them a taxi going to the nearest bus station. But there were no available buses yet so they still have to wait. They went to an ATM to widraw some cash.
"Sammy stay here, maghahanap lang ako ng available van na pwede nating marentahan kesa magintay tayo ng bus"
Sam just gave her cousin a nod. Sam just played some apps in her phone waiting for her cousin to come back.
"Sammy nakakita ako ng pwede nating sakyan" Ingrid happily said
The two them immediately went to the van Ingrid was talking about. After settling with the price they but all their bags in.
"Manong pwede po dumaan tayo sa supermarket mamaya" Sam said
"Walang problema" they driver said and hoped in the van
They were on the road going to where ever they were headed. The sun is already rising and Sam is adoring the view by the window. Sam sitted back finding her cousin fast asleep already knowing Ingrid is such a sleeping monster. Sam already passed out since she has to wake up early from her normarl sleeping time. Hours have already passed and Sam felt someone snuggling her neck knowing it was only Bonnie her eyes then flew open.
"Wow" That was the word that came out of her mouth
Sam hasn't always been out of the house if she is. Silang dalawang lang palagi ni Ingrid ang magkakasama along with MIchie they would always spend time in the mall or in their houses they always didn't go far from home. Samantha was really enjoying the view of the fields they are going through. The sun was already up.
"Malayo pa po ba tayo" Sam asked the driver
"Malayo layo pa ho siguro mga ilang oras pa" the driver answered
Ingrid was still fast asleep and snoring. Sam just quietly laughed at her cousin. Nakakita naman kaaga sila ng supermarket to stop over to buy some stuff.
"Ingrid wake up"
Ingrid's eyes flew open.
"Come on we're going to buy some groceries before we head there" Sam said
The both of them are just strolling looking for what they could buy, Sam was just by the meat section while Ingrid for sure is by the junk food area and getting whatever sweets her hands can get. Ingrid was back with a handful of chips like lays and all.
"Do still know the word healthy?" Sam laughed asked
"yeah, and minsan lang ito for you info" Ingrid said
After getting all they need, they went to the cashier to pay for their groceries. And it was back again on the road.
Hours passed and they finally reached their destination despite it was the province it was a beautiful place. And they stopped to a pink glassed house.
"Were finally here!" Ingrid screamed as they got out of the van
Sam's eyes roamed around the place. Houses were all elegant as well but despite it all there is still the beautiful ambiance of the province, the fresh breeze. After putting down all their things they got inside the house. The place was beautiful, all interior with powder pink and white. The living room was the first to welcome theme there was a crystal chandelier and a white leather couch with cute printed pillows and a glass center table.
"Woah, the kitchen is cute" Ingrid shouted from where she was
When Sam got there it was, like the living room it was all pink and white.
"You and Michie do really get along" Ingrid said knowing Sam's favorite colour as well is pink
"What can we do? You always prefer baby blue colors" Sam said
They first fixed there stuff upstairs and they decided to stay in one room even there are two rooms located upstairs. They first settled down but they both feel weird knowing their family would call them by this kind if hour.
