Carter almost threw her phone, her stomach churning as she glanced across the room at Malia, who was watching How I Met Your Mother, per Carter's request. The whole pack had left them at Scott's house alone, Aria practically dragging those who were still there out by their hair.
"Why is your heart beating so fast?" Malia didn't even look over, watching as Barney got jinxed.
"It's not." Carter replied uncertainly, swallowing when Malia stared at her.
"Liar."
"I'm a truther."
"I'm pretty sure that's not a word."
"According to Josh Nichols it is."
"Who?"
"Drake and Josh? Nickelodeon sitcom?"
"Stop changing the subject."
"What subject?"
"Your heart beating so fast."
"I don't think that was the topic."
"It was."
"Nope."
"You're doing it again."
"Doing what?"
"Do I make you nervous?"
"Fight me, Lia."
"Date me."
"Wait, what?" Carter spluttered, her cheeks turning a bright red as Malia shrugged.
"I said, date me." She answered simply, crossing the room and standing in front of the chair she was sitting in.
"You and I?" Carter blinked, clearing her throat. "Like, girlfriend and girlfriend?"
"You like me, I like you." Malia stated bluntly, pointing between them. "Stiles said that's how it works when I asked him."
"Yeah, that's uh," The tall girl waved a hand around, her mind drawing a complete blank. "Yeah. That's how it works."
"Then date me." Malia put her hands on the arms of the chair, leaning down so her face was only inches from hers.
"Okay." Carter nodded, swallowing hard. It completely astounded her how Malia could diminish her to a ball of nerves and butterflies in a matter of seconds. "Yeah."
"Carter?"
"Yeah?"
"I caught you." Malia breathed, reminding her of earlier that morning when she had ran away from her. Before Carter could come up with a witty reply, Malia's lips were on hers.
And she didn't mind one bit.
