“Uh. No. That’s really not necessary. Thank you, Mr. Styles.” Kate replied, alarmed by this unexpected offer. What in the world was he trying to do now?
“Then why don’t I walk you to your car?” Harry spoke quickly before she could get away.
But as Kate opened her mouth to refuse, Harvey started speaking.
“That would be wonderful, Mr. Styles. That way I can get back to the party without worrying about Ms. Dawson reaching safely to her car.” Harvey turned and smiled warmly at Kate. Please no! How was she supposed to say ‘no’ now? It felt like she was completely out of luck tonight.
“After you, Ms. Dawson.” Harry moved to make way for Kate before she could change her mind or come up with an excuse. Kate noticed the smirk that was tugging on Harry’s lips. She could that tell he had a hidden agenda.
Kate lowered her head and started walking fast so that Harry could not catch up. But Harry was by her side within seconds. Shit! She had completely forgotten how long his legs were. Thus, he could take longer strides than Kate.
“So, Katelyn. I wanted to ask you something since I first saw you. ” Harry started speaking.
Shit! Kate started panicking. He knew! He remembered! What now? She had to leave before he could ask too many questions. Pack her bags and head out of town for a few days. The children weren’t safe!
Taking Kate’s silence as an assent, Harry went on.
“I was wondering. Have we met somewhere before? You look really familiar.”
“Wait! What?” Kate stopped in her tracks and turned to Harry, flabbergasted by this new revelation. He had to be kidding! He didn’t even remember who she was? Her shock started subsiding; however, it was soon replaced by utter rage. Kate clenched her teeth in pure outrage and started walking again towards the exit.
Harry was dumbstruck by her reaction and ran to catch up to her. He called her out a few times but she did not turn. Once they were out of the ball room, Harry grabbed her hand and turned her around.
“Katelyn, wait! I’m sorry. Did I say something wrong?”
“Did you say something wrong? You’re kidding me. Right?” Kate laughed without any mirth in her voice and turned to walk away.
“Wait! Hold on! Is it because I didn’t recognize you?”
Kate just crossed her arms over her chest.
“Look, Katelyn, I’m a busy guy and I meet a lot of people. I can’t remember everyone’s face now! Can I?”
“Yeah! I bet you can’t!” Kate replied sarcastically.
“Wooaa! What’s your problem? I mean what’s the big deal here?” Harry went on, not quite sure why she was getting so upset over something this simple. Did this girl have some sort of anger management issue?
“Nothing!”, Kate replied resignedly. “There’s no problem. Have a good night, Mr. Styles.”
And with that Kate turned and walked away from Harry. Kate could literally feel her hurt breaking. He couldn’t even remember her? Was she so irrelevant in his life? And over all these years, he was the centre of hers.
As Kate was walking away, she suddenly felt Harry grab her hand. But before she could turn around and say something scornful, he pulled her close and lowered his lips on hers. Kate was taken aback and gasped against his mouth. He took full advantage of her open mouth and deepened the kiss.
Harry put one hand against Kate’s waist, to keep her close, and with the other he caressed her cheek. Both of their eyes fluttered shut as Harry slowly pushed her backwards towards the wall. Kate felt trapped between the wall and Harry’s lithe body.
She tried to pull away but this only made Harry lean and put all his weight on her so that she couldn’t move. She knew this was wrong. Her brain was telling her to stop but all her thoughts were getting clouded. All she could think about was how soft Harry’s lips felt; how his hot tongue plunged into her mouth and made her entire body quiver. She grabbed onto his soft curls and pulled him closer as she moaned against his mouth.
It was all the encouragement Harry needed. Harry picked Kate up against the wall and she wrapped her legs around his waist. Each kissed the other as if their lives depended on it. Touching. Feeling.
Harry suddenly lifted his head and gasped for air. He was as shaken as she was by the strength of their attraction. He lowered his head once again but this time he put his lips against her neck and started kissing her in her weak spots.
Kate lost herself in the pleasure of his tongue against her skin. As he bit gently against her neck, Kate let out a moan and pulled Harry closer to her body. Just when Kate thought she was about to lose herself completely, she felt a sudden buzzing against Harry.
Both of them tried to ignore it, but the vibration was persistent. Kate’s mind started clearing from that sudden intrusion and she opened her eyes quickly.
“I’m sorry, babe. I need to get this.” She could hear Harry whispering against her ear. What in the world was she doing? Had she completely lost her mind?
He slowly put her down and reached for the phone inside his jacket. As he turned the other way to receive the call, Kate took full advantage of the situation. She shot out and ran as fast as she could towards the street and did not look back.
It took Harry a moment to realize what had happened. Once he did, Harry turned around and started to run after her.
“Wait!” he shouted but to no avail. She was gone.
