The sky was a pale pink orange as dawn gave way to the sun. Arabella was sitting at her old tarnished wooden desk putting the finishing touches on her powerpoint presentation for her A.P. English class. She looked over at her California King size bed with green cotton and silk bedding on top of it and smiled at the little bundle of joy that was there. She was wrapped in a pink blanket, her hair was all over the place and she had on a cute yellow onesie. She was perfect, a reflection of everything right with the world. Arabella was proud that she would be responsible for molding her neice Annabella into a young woman. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she looked forward to the challenge.
Saving her work to the jump drive, she grabbed her clothes and ran into her personal bathroom. It had granite counters, a marble tiled shower/bathtub and a stainless steel sink. Her toilet was a bidet (the toilet that shoots water.) She was indeed a blessed girl. Her mother and father turned teenaged pregnancy into triumph. They weren't the typical story. They graduated from highschool, college and professional school. Her father was an engineer for Boeing and her mother a corporate attorney for Whole Foods.
Bella hopped into the shower and grabbed her loofah and lathered her body in her favorite dreamcicle and strawberry body wash. She hopped out of the shower, dried off and wrapped her towel around her. She then cleaned off the mirror from the fog to see her reflection.
She had long thick dark brown curly hair, she had dark carmel skin, and pretty Hazel green eyes. Her nose was perfect and she was toned. She had shapely long legs, a nice waist and an ample butt. She was stunning, but not arrogant about it. In fact, she hid it, and hid it well. She wore baggy clothes to school, her hair in a messy bun and huge hoodies. She was more athletic than anything and she cared more about her grades then some boy. She was popular though.
Her brother Andrew was the captain of the boys basketball team and co-captain of the football team. They were twins and shared most of the same features except where her eyes were hazel green, his were stone cold gray. He had short cropped curly hair and was one of the, "It men" on campus. They were both seniors in highschool and would be 18 in two weeks.
Their Older sister Annalisa had passed while giving birth to her daughter six months ago. Leaving Andrew, Bella and their parents as her primary caregivers. Her brother-in-law Tyler couldn't bare to be around his daughter who was the spitting image of his deceased wife. So he left, and noone blamed him. He was hurting and needed time to heal in order to become an effective father and leader of the church his father had left him to pastor.
"Bella, come on! If you want me to drive hurry your ass on girl." Andrew said
"Shut up fool, I'm coming."
"You don't look like anything at school, so it shouldn't take that long, besides we have to drop Anna off at daycare."
"I know Drew, I have to brush my teeth!"
Annabella woke up crying to her uncle Drews loud outburst.
"Drew!!!!!!!!!!!!! You woke Anna up!" Annabella 's chubby rosy cheeks were warmly nuzzled by her aunt.
"Sorry, I didn't know she was in the room with you, I thought that she slept in mom and dads room last night." He said guiltly
"Uuhhhhh" she huffed as she hurried out of the bathroom to the her bed where her wailing neice lied.
"Awww did noisy uncle Andrew scare you pumpkin? TT is so sorry my angel. Uncle Drew is so stupid sometimes, he dosen't think." She said cooing the baby.
Once Arabella spoke her neice calmed down.
"Drew, grab her bag from mom and dads room. I bathed her early this morning, we're ready, I'll meet you down stairs."
she opened up her door, walked down the hallway and to their spiral staircase tightly holding her neice.
"Bye mom and dad, see you later." Drew yelled startling Anna sending her into a crying fit again.
"Inconsiderate Ass!" Bella said more to herself than anyone else.
She heard her brother running sown the stairs. She turned around to glare at him for being so damned loud.
He looked at her apologetically, "Sorry sis!"
He grabbed his black vans that went with his black v-neck, dark gray skinny jeans and black ankle socks.
"Bella, is that my Watch the throne hoodie?" Drew questioned.
"Yep!" She said popping her P. "Hold her while I grab my Jordans from the Laundry room, will you."
Andrew grabbed his little neice and instantly started kissing her all over face. "Don't you wanna kiss the girl." He sang like Sebastian from the Little Mermaid. One of his neices favorite movies. "The only men that can kiss you are me, grandpa and your daddy until you're 35." He said seriously in a baby cooing voice.
"Ready!" Bella said as she grabbed her neice and her book bag and headed out the door.
Drew hit the locks to open the doors of his black on black 2013 GMC Terrain. He grabbed his neice and put her in her carseat taking her little jacket off so she wouldn't start to sweat. He smiled lovingly at Anna. She looked just like their big sister Annalisa. She had curly red hair like her dad and his blue eyes other than that she all her mom. She was lighter than him and his sisters along the same complexion of J.Cole or Drake. She had his big sisters nose, eye shape and spit fire personality. She had a combination of the first part of her mothers name and the last part of Arabella's name. He knew that she would be a handful already and she wasn't even talking yet. He kissed her on the cheek closed the door and hopped in the drivers seat.
"I gotta pick up Daniel aight sis." Drew said
"Cool." They rode in a comfortable silence. Ever since their older sister passed things had been different. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he knew that it had to do with noone properly mourning over his older sister. It was like business as usual for the Richards Family and he didn't like it.
He drove and almost passed his bestfriend Dan's house. Dan was standing outside his apartment complex with his 3 month old daughter Julie in her carseat. Julie and Anna went to the same daycare and Dan's car was being tinted and baby proofed so he needed a ride. Dan was 6'2, toned, smart and extremly popular. He had dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. He used to play sports, but he decided to drop it all when his daughter was born, so that he could focus on her. He went as far as moving out of his parents mansion and got two jobs to support his daughter.
Dammit, he should have told me that she would be here. Dan thought to himself. Everytime he saw her his heart stopped. Her beautiful eyes, her smooth brown skin, that hair, that he dreamed many a nights of running his hands through. There was no doubt that he wanted Annabella he just didn't know how to approach her after their sordid past. She had a rocking body even though she hid it under unflattering clothes.
"Good morning guys!" he said as he hopped in the car and bucked Julie in.
"Hey man!" Drew said
He kissed Anna's cheek. Her and Julie were Bff's. They always had playdates and even went to the same school.
"Hey Bell" He said.
"Hey!" she said uninterested in Dan.
Drew noticing the tension spoke up. "Hey Dan, really wish you would play ball this year man. We need you on the court and on the field."
"Man, you know I can't. Julie is my world now and I made the decision to out her first. Plus I have work so."
"Dude you work for Uncle Percy!" Drew said increduously
Percy is Dan's father and since Drew and Dan have been friends since they were 3 they were closer then best friends, they considered each other's parents aunt and uncles. Although Dan would prefer to call them in laws one day.
"So Bella, 18 in two weeks, excited?" he asked hoping to spark some conversation.
She looked at Dan and said, "Umm happy to see another year, other than that, Im not really into celebrating." She said curtly
"Oh." was all he said
After that they rode in awkward silence other than the girls cooing at each other and gurgling.
"Thank God the daycare that the girls go to isin't too far away from my house." Dan thought to himself. He hated silence, especially uncomfortable silence. Dan started to unhook the girls and Bella got out to grab Julie since Julie was closer to her side. Julie was everything to Dan. They were twins except that her skin was brown and his was white, but thats where the differences ended. Her mom and Dan met at a college visit and hooked up a few times after the visit when he found out that she lived close. She called him two months after their last night together and told him that she was pregnant and was going to abort the baby. He begged her not to, but she said she didn't want to keep it.
She went ahead with the abortion and went to the doctors office and there was still a heartbeat. Now here he was. A single 18 year old father and daughter who was magic in his eyes. The hardest part wasn't telling his parents or even his friends. It was telling Arabella. They had a history and when she found out her heart broke and his chances with her died. One mistake changed his life. He would has never and would never consider Julie a mistake, but the order it happened was. In Dan's 17 year old mind, his daughter was supposed to be Arabella's and they would get married, but it wasn't her's it was Lashonda's and now his daughter was motherless. A mother who didn't want her. She gave all her rights away and said, "Keep that little halfbreed away from me. My parents would never forgive me if they knew I messed around with a white guy." It hurt, but Dan was more so hurt for his daughter.
"So," Dan said as we walked back to the car.
Arabella kept her face to the ground, "Look Dan, I think that you're a great father and all, but just because I love Julie and I love spending time with her dosen't translate over to me and you being together. You hurt me. I gave you so much of me and it wasn't enough. You had to go and sleep with a girl you barely knew!"
Damn. Dan thought. She walked away so fast that he could have sworn that the tears he saw falling down her cheek were imagined. By the time that he had gotten to the car. Bella was gone.
"Hey man what the hell did you do to my sister?" An angry Drew said.
"What do you mean what did I do to your sister." Dan said slightly defensive.
"She came back crying, grabbed her book bag and said that she would walk the rest of the way."
I stood there shocked. Dan promised himself that he would never again be the reason that she frowned or cried. Yet, here he was looking like an ass. It wasn't until about 20 seconds later that Dan snapped back to reality and realizesd that Drew had left him in the Daycare parking lot.
'Great, now their both mad at me and I'm going to be late for school."
