❝ And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones, 'cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs. ❞

Stefan and Delilah arrived at their second-hour room on time. They both took their seats in front and behind each other and prepared their materials for the class. Just before the bell rang, Delilah heard a small "spot" from her left side. She glanced over her shoulder at a girl with long, brown hair who gave her a small smile. She gestured over towards Stefan, and Delilah immediately knew that she wanted his attention.

"Erm," The girl cleared her throat and gave Stefan's shoulder. "That girl wants you," Delilah said and Stefan's forest-green eyes darted over towards the girl. He gave her a wide smile, Delilah furrowing her eyebrow at that. Well, then.

"Do you know her from somewhere?" Delilah questioned. "Because she sure seems to know who you are."

"Elena, Elena Gilbert. I think you two would get along," Stefan replied.

"Do you and her share one of those 'we've-known-each-other-since-diapers' friendships?"

The boy let out a small chuckle underneath his breath at that. "No, that we don't." His eyes searched the brunette, who was now known as Elena. She mouthed a few unknown words to him, Delilah giving her eyebrows a small furrow as she tried to make out what she was saying. Elena then pulled out a small poster from her backpack, holding it up to Stefan and Delilah's view. In bold, black letters read 50's Decade Dance.

Stefan gave Elena a soft grin and mouthed a few words back to each other. Delilah couldn't help but feel a small ping in her stomach. What was wrong with her? She and Stefan had only met not an hour ago. It was so wrong to feel this face already, so Delilah Amoretti face-palmed herself mentally. How dare she feel this way towards a guy she didn't even become acquainted with yet.

Elena gave Stefan a wide grin in return and turned over to show the poster to a girl sitting to her left. Stefan whispered her name to Delilah softly. Bonnie, the girl Elena's attention was currently focused on, nodded her head and grinned from ear to ear. Clearly, Bonnie had decided to go as well. However, Delilah wasn't one for dancing, let alone, dressing up. She only did so on special occasions, she probably wasn't even considering going until Stefan's voice rang in her ears.

"Are you going to go?" He questioned and Delilah snapped back to reality, turning to look at him.

"Huh?" She asked blankly.

"The 50's Decade Dance. Will you be going?"

"Um, well, I'm not sure yet. I might..." She trailed off and took her inner cheek in between her teeth. Delilah contemplated mentally whether to go or not.

"You should. Take it from me. It'd be a great way to get to know more people, honesty. You are the new girl here after all," Stefan said and smiled at Delilah. "You can come with me. I'll show you around if you want."

"That sounds nice. I'll think about it."

Delilah's first day of school went fairly well, actually. It felt like one of those 'casual first day of school' days. She still needed to decide about the dance, she promised Stefan to let him know by the following day. When she arrived at her house, Delilah opened the door and called out for her aunt.

"Aunt Loretta? Hello?" She hollered from the bottom of the stairs and crinkled her nose in confusion where she heard no response, just dead silence. She might be asleep, was the first thought that came into her mind. Delilah sauntered into the kitchen where she found a small note sitting on the kitchen table. She lifted it up and it read:

Apologies. I will be back around 10. There are some leftovers in the refrigerator.
- Aunt Lori

Delilah thought for a moment. What did her aunt want with Mystic Falls already? The two had just moved there. She, however, brushed the matter aside and went to search the refrigerator for any snacks. She found herself some Yoplait yogurt and walked up the stairs into her bedroom, which still needed a little bit more touching to it.

She plopped herself down upon the chair of her desk and sprawled out her homework. Luckily, the teachers hadn't packed too much for the poor girl on her first day. Delilah multitasked smoothly, eating her yogurt whilst finishing up her homework.

About an hour or so later, she wrapped up her work and set her pencil aside. Being born left-handed wasn't easy. Her hand would always trail over the words she had previously written. The lead of her pencil left smudges all over the paper and back of her hand. It was utterly annoying if she had to say so herself. Delilah spent the rest of her night reading her favorite book since her childhood: Alice in Wonderland.

She was alarmed when she heard her phone buzz by her side. Delilah checked it and let out a soft sigh when she realized it was her old friend back in France contacting her. Delilah set her phone back down and glanced out her bedroom window at the crescent moon that began to form in the atmosphere. She honestly really hoped it was him, but the girl knew she couldn't set her hopes up high.

Oddly enough, Delilah fell asleep on her desk, the side of her head resting against her book. It was about an hour or so until she finally awoke. She rubbed her eyes and stretched within her seat, closing the book. Her eyes focused on her phone that sat afar. Would she even dare to check? Delilah went out on a limb and did so. To her surprise, she had received not only one message but two that appeared on her lock-screen. All were sent from Stefan. The girl smiled widely to herself at that and jumped up on her bed, leaning back against her two pillows.

"Stefan: Hello Delilah, it's Stefan from your History and Science class..." was what read her first message. Delilah smiled and continued to scroll.

Stefan: You should really decide to come. I'd hate to have to bribe you.

Delilah let out a soft snicker and began to type up a message in response.

Delilah: Hello there Stefan. There's no need for bribing, but I'd love some money anyways. :)

In just minutes, her phone buzzed again. Delilah unlocked her lock-screen and opened another message belonging to Stefan.

Stefan: Ha, u wish

At the sight of text talk, Delilah couldn't help but cringe. She immediately sent something to him in return.

Delilah: **You. And YOU forgot a period. Shame on YOU.

Stefan: Oh wow. Thanks, mother.

Delilah: Text talk annoys me. That was a horrible first impression.

Stefan: What's that supposed to mean?

Delilah: That maybe this won't work unless you fix your text-talk.

Stefan: Someone's feisty today... What side of the bed did you wake up on?

Delilah: Wow. Funny.

Stefan: I'm just saying...

Delilah: Oh my God. Leave me and my feistiness alone.

Stefan: Not until you agree to come to the dance!

Delilah: Well, screw you.

Stefan: Say it then.

Delilah: Fine, fine. I'll go.

Stefan: You better.

Delilah: You're lucky you're not Tyler.

Stefan: What does he have to do with anything?

Delilah: I'm just saying that you should feel lucky that you're on my good side.

Stefan: Delilah Amoretti has a bad side? Oh, I'd love to see that.

Delilah: Don't you dare push my buttons, Salvatore. You are being SO irritating right now, you know?

Stefan: I would love to make my life's mission irritate you. :)

Delilah: Oh my god.

The two stayed up for what felt like hours. She hadn't even realized the arrival of her aunt, she was way too absorbed in her and Stefan's interesting conversation. Eventually, it became late and Delilah fell asleep once more. It never dawned on her that she had forgotten to turn off her phone, so she fell asleep not knowing Stefan had sent a certain message to her while she slumbered.

Stefan: Well, I'm guessing you fell asleep. So, goodnight Delilah. I hope you sleep tight and dream sweet dreams. Can't wait for the first and second hour, I'll see you tomorrow.
