Emma's POV
As we walked into Henry's room the first thing I hear is the heart machine and a breathing pump. A nurse was setting him up on the breathing pump through his chest so that he could still talk to us and it wouldn't hurt as much. The tube literally was pierced through his skin which made me shudder at the sight. He did look sick, and I don't think it was hard to realize as well. Killian tighted his grip on my hand and smiled at me to raise my spirits. But I don't think anything could at the moment.
When the nurse had finally left I walked slowly up to Henry who had closed his eyes over as if he were asleep. Killian never left my side. I never let go of his hand in shear terror that if I did something horrible would happen.
I grabbed Henry's hand and rubbed my thumb along his palm like I used to when he was younger. He flinched and his eyes began to flicker. I bent over and kissed his cheek softly to let him know I was there. He opened his eyes and groaned. "Henry?" I whispered softly. He looked down at his chest and saw lots of tubes and iv's in him. He looked at the heart machine on his right side and tried to sit up. "Woah, woah easy kid. Take it slow. You need rest." I told him calmly. I didn't want to talk to loud in case I startled him. He looked at me and tried to smile but groaned in pain. I stared at him with fear in my eyes but i knew it was because his lungs weren't doing what they were ment to be doing. Killian stood by my side and smiled at Henry "Hello lad. How are you feeling?" He asks. Henry opens his mouth but nothing comes out.
"Emma, im going to go get a nurse. Looks like he needs some more fluids." Killian explains to me. I kiss him and struggled to let go of his hand. But eventually I did and he walked out of the room. I looked back and Henry and sat on the end of his bed holding his hand. He took the deepest breaths I had ever heard before. Even though he had the tube in his chest and oxygen nibs in his nose he was still struggling to breathe. It crushed me inside to see him like this. "Hey kid. I know you can't talk right now but I'm just so happy your okay." I smiled at him. He smiled back and it made all this pain worthwhile. He has been so sick these past months that a smile on his face was very rare.
A few minutes later Killian walked in with Henry's doctor and a nurse I'd never seen before came into the room. The doctor guided me and Killian into the private waiting room. I kissed Henry's forehead and walked in with Killian. Obviously I was devastated that I had to leave Henry in that room but clearly his doctor had something to tell us.
"Um, Ms.Swan we haven't actually told Henry about his cancer. We thought you would be the best person to tell him. He will find comfort in you telling him." His doctor tells me. "What?" I mumbled. "I know it comes as a shock, we don't want him to stress out over it." He replied. "Your a doctor! Its your job!" I shouted at him. "Emma..." Killian whispers. "I understand your upset Ms.Swan but it's what we thought was best." The doctor tries to explain. I ignore him and walk back into Henry's room.
Killian's POV
As soon as Emma left the room it went quiet. I turned to the doctor who looked annoyed. "I'll talk to her." I said he nodded as I walked into Henry's room behind her. Emma was standing at Henry's bedside as I nurse was giving him more fluids.
"Emma. Can I talk to you." I grab her shoulder gently. She turned to me and nodded her head slowly. I walked her over to the corner of the room.
"Emma, Henry needs his mother to have faith in him. And I'm not seeing much of it. You need to have faith that this will all come to pass and Henry will recover. But first he needs to know his illness. And your the best person to tell him."
"Killian.. I'm not good at this. I was the one who had to tell Henry about his Fathers death and his sisters too. Now, I'll be telling him that he is dying. I can't do that to him."
"Yes I know Emma. Its hard to tell someone about death. Trust me I know. But imagine how heartbroken he would be if a doctor told him. It would be just as bad as the doctor telling you. He needs his mother. I wish I still had mine to comfort me."
"Killian. I'm sorry. I was just being selfish. I sometimes forget you've been through worse times than me. Losing your parents and taking your brother in as your own."
"Emma you've had it worse. You have lost everyone. You didn't even get to meet your parents. You lost your husband and even your baby. All you have left is Henry."
"And you."
"And me."
"I love you Killian"
"I love you too Emma"
Emma's POV
Killian wraps his arm around mine and we walk back over to Henry together. The nurse had left so we had some privacy and we could mourn together.
"Henry.... Um I have to tell you something."
"What's up mom?"
"Well, you know how you've been really sick since before Christmas? Your fevers and sore chests?"
"Yeah?"
"Well.... Its because."
Killian put his arm on my shoulder. I however burst into tears. I'm not good at this. But my instincts tell me to keep it together for Henry's sake.
"Henry, you have.. Um.. You have lung cancer."
My tears roll of my face quicker and heavier.
My head tell me henry would too burst into tears. But he just sits up and hugs me.
"Its okay mom. No matter what happens I'll always be in here." He points at my chest, my heart.
"I love you mom. Never forget that. I'll be your warrior and soldier on to protect you."
|ugh I cried millions writing this. I have my hot chocolate with cinnamon and a box of tissues whilst I wrote this and also had 5x11 on in the background. I don't know how I'm gonna cope 3 months omgosh! Help guys|
