[Aiden]
"Are you sure you want to do this Aiden?" My parents old friend, Ward, asks me.
"Listen Ward, I didn't come all this way, just to agree with you that this may be a bad idea.
Don't you think I've thought it out already? I think I understand what I'm getting into.
So please if you're not going to help me, then say so." I say to him not wanting to play around.
"Okay, alright Aiden. But if Graham finds out and gets mad, I had nothing to do with this.. And never knew about it. Okay?" I nod my head.
"So you'll give me the money?" I ask. Needing him to confirm it. "Yes." He says.
"Thank you. You can drop it off at one tomorrow."
[Graham]
I'm hurt that Aiden got mad, but I don't blame him. I can't. Not after everything he's been through, and that I've put him though.
I'll just have to face the fact that he can't take every little thing that gets thrown his way. And most of it was because of me.
I mean, really nobody can. I've never met, let alone heard of such a person who never feels pain.
Pain is an emotion. You cant control it. You have no choice. It's God's gift to human kind. Feelings.
It can be beautiful. Wonderful. Indescribable. And torturous.
These few months have not been good for Aiden. And it hurts me that I don't know what to do.
Aiden has every right to be mad at me. Everyone has the right to be mad. I am the cause of Aiden losing his friends, his school, his life in general. All I have to do is go to work and keep my brother happy.
"Graham!" Lewis calls, bringing me out of my thoughts. I look at him and he starts laughing "You look so scared! What happened?" He says.
"Oh, uh- you scared me." I answer. Backing out of my desk area. "Uh- can I help you Lewis?"
He moves half his mouth down, giving it a half frown. "Not really. I just wanted to make sure my favorite co-worker is doing alright!" He says with a smile.
Annoyed I answer "Oh, everything is fine. Thank you for caring so much."
Even though I know you don't give a damn and you probably want something from me.
"Oh, well I'm glad to hear that Graham! Really am!" He smiles his usual fake smile then continues,
"Graham, how long has it been since you've been out of the house? Besides every morning for work, of course." He laughs.
How long has it been? I don't remember the last time. Just me and some friends. It's different then me and my brother's time together a few months ago.
That was almost out of pity. I don't want it to be, but it is. And it's a feeling. So I can't control it. Well even if I could, I wouldn't know how.
"I'm not sure," I answer. And he smiles, like he knows his plan now.
"Well that's wonderful! This would be the perfect opportunity to get yourself out there!"
"Uhh-" I start.
"I'm having a get together for the football game on Saturday. I would love if you came! All the co- workers will be there, a few close friends.
You're welcome to bring some friends along too. Maybe Aiden would like to tag along too!" He says, a little too happy.
What an offer. I would love to get out of the house, I'm sure Aiden would too. But it's a horrible place to be.
I see these people enough already. I don't wanna see them on a Saturday.
"I will definitely think about it. Thanks for the invitation Lewis." He tilts his head the the side and with a wink he says,
"Wouldn't forget about you now. It's no problem!" He laughs "See you there!"
"Well, umm, I said I'd think about-"
"Good day Graham!" He walks away.
Okay then.
I finish my hours and pack up my bag. I wrap my leather brown satchel over my shoulder and lock the door to my office.
"Graham! Sorry I forgot to tell you, bring some sodas with you. Preferably some cola and Rootbeer. Yes? Okay. Thank you! See you tomorrow."
He pats me on my back and walks away.
"I didn't say I was going!" I yell. Not to him, but just out loud.
"Okay." I breathe and walk out of the building that I've learned to hate.
I walk to my red car and open the door. I jump in my car and in the street. I stop at a red light and look around once more.
"Uggh!" I hear not to far. It must have been loud if I heard it from inside my car.
A lady in a coral colored shirt and beige colored pants walks by. She drops her bag of groceries and all the items in it fall out. I pull the car to the side of the road and get out of the car.
I rush to her and grab the things on the floor. "Wait! No!" She screams just as I hand her the can of sweetened corn.
I give her a confused look.
"Oh." She says and takes the can. "I- I'm sorry, I- I thought you were taking my things." She says.
"Oh, no." I laugh. "I hate corn." I clear my throat as she scoffs.
"I'm sorry, did you just say you hate corn?" She says with a confused look.
"Uhh- yeah." I answer. And she laughs. "What?" I ask.
She continues to laugh and says, "No, it's just.. You said you hate corn. So like, if it wasn't corn, you'd take it? But no you didn't take my groceries because you don't like corn?" She starts laughing again. And I join her.
"Haha.. I didn't mean it like that. I mean, I do hate corn, but I wouldn't take your groceries either way." I laugh.
"Well you made my day." She says and looks down. "I- um, I'm Fawn."
She sticks her hand out. I shake her it. " I'm Graham."
"We don't hear that name much anymore." She says excitedly.
"Haha.. Uh- yeah." I answer. "We don't hear Fawn much either." She smiles.
"My mother was a pretty interesting person." She says quietly.
"Very creative." I add. "Yeah." She looks up at me and smiles.
"Well, Graham, thank you for helping me. I really appreciate it,"
"Of course." I smile. "Will I.. See you again?" She asks. And I notice her beautiful hazelnut eyes. Goes nicely with her light brown hair.
"Well, I work in that building right there. Wish." I tell her and point to the building. "Oh! You work there?" She says, very happily.
I laugh. "Yes, it's not the best place, but it's fun." I say. "Well, that's awesome! I order on that app all the time! Maybe you have seen my orders?" She says curiously with a smile.
"Hm- well what's your name? Like you know, your full name?" She smiles. "Fawn Sarah Greyson. Sarah was my mothers name."
"Age?" I ask. She rolls her eyes. "20, but let me guess, I'm younger than you." I nod.
"I'm 21," "Hmm."
I can't remember seeing that name. I really want to remember seeing it. I don't know why.
"I think I remember seeing your name." I lie. "Oh man. I hope you don't see what I order. I promise I'm not the one! My sister is the weird one! I promise!"
I couldn't stop laughing. The way she said it, I couldn't contain myself.
"We probably look crazy on the side of the road like this." I laugh. "Yeah I know!" She laughs.
"Well my brother is expecting me home soon." I say quietly.
"Well, you should probably give me your number before you leave so we won't have to go through the the whole awkward thingy."
"Oh. I'm sorry.. I didn't think you were taking it like that. I have a girlfriend. Sorry." I tell her.
An embarrassed look comes across her face. She looks down.
"I'm so sorry." She shakes her head, still looking down. And I start laughing. Uncontrollably.
"I'm totally messing with you!" I scream at her. Laughing so hard. I can't remember the last time I've laughed like this. And it's amazing.
Out of nowhere she hits my arm.
I barely felt it, but it was cute. Cute? Oh boy.
"That's not okay! That's messed up!" She screams at me. "Oh, I'm sorry if I hurt you. I didn't mean to." I say quietly.
And she starts laughing. "Got you!" She yells. And I can't help but notice, she's a very beautiful girl.
Skinny, her long sleeve coral shirt fits nicely on her. It matches her eyes; hair; skin; everything. She's very beautiful.
"Aww, come on boy, can't take a joke?" She smacks my arm lightly. And I smile. "Nah, I'll be fine. A little hurt by the fact that you would pretend you were hurt. What a way to charm a guy.
You definitely have skills." I laugh. And she smirks. "Well, I guess so."
"Well Fawn, you have made my day as well today, and it was a pleasure to meet such a wonderful.. And charming girl."
"Why thank you." She says. And looks at me with those gorgeous eyes.
"Well I have to go now. You have my number, so I'll see you Around." I say.
"What's wrong?" She asks. I give her a weird look.
"What do you mean?" I ask. "You look.. I don't know, you are looking at me weird." "Oh sorry, it's just your eyes." I say causally.
"My eyes?" She asks curiously. "Your eyes are so distracting."
Wrong words.
She gives a confused look. "I mean, they're beautiful."
"Oh, Thank you." She laughs. "I guess, I'll see you around then."
"Okay..bye."
"Bye."
