Chapter 8 - Sion saves the day.

Unique scowled at the woman. They'd pulled her to a private area in the middle of a city park. A wooden shed shadowed them from the public eye. Something Unique found odd. This place was creepy. It didn't help that the woman was trying to make all sorts of grimaces and faces, claiming that she needed to cleanse her aura before Unique performed 'her magic'.

Sion stood a few feet away, and watched them without making a sound. The humor that glinted in his eyes didn't pass by Unique though. She knew that he was enjoying this far too much. Why couldn't he take over?

"Aight! I think I'm about ready now, darlin'," the woman said. She stretched her arms, making her tiny blouse show some of her stomach. Normally it wouldn't have bothered Unique to see that little skin. Except, it wasn't exactly a small amount of skin that was exposes-it was a lot.

"I'm ready too. Ain't that right, Mary?" The man flashed a wide grin at her.

Mary glanced to her partner before widening her eyes. "Allan! Don't tell me you didn't do any of the exercises. It ain't nice to let the magic woman wait."

Unique found it awkward to watch the couple fight. Her hand found her hair, and she twisted away under the cover of scratching her head. Perhaps the couple needed to figure out some stuff alone. She sighed.

What was she even supposed to help them with? They seemed to be a functional couple. Well, apart from the fact that Allan apparently was stuck under a dominant hussy... But that wasn't really any concern to Unique.

"It's really not needed," she interrupted them. "I mean... Your auras are fine as they are."

"Great. Let's get started then." Mary smiled and closed her eyes. She reached out her arms in front of her, grabbing at something, which Unique couldn't see. Her partner did the same. "Whenever you're ready dear."

Unique shrugged. Okay, then. Exhaling, she filled her thoughts with happy memories and touched the woman's hand.

Joy. Everything was joyous. Mary was supposed to see him now-her high school sweetheart. There was no more time for regrets. Her whole future could be changed right now. She fixed her hair, and smiled to her reflection. Meeting him again would be great.

She paced around her apartment, fixing little things. A few pictures were removed. A champagne bottle was opened and put on ice. Excitement filled her when the doorbell finally rang. She skidded over there to open the door to find Eric standing there with a dashing smile. Mary jumped into his arms, and embraced him with a tender kiss. God, she'd missed him so much.

Unique pulled back, this wasn't right. It wasn't Allan in that memory. She looked to Sion for help. Oh, dear. What had she done?

"I don't understand." The woman opened her eyes and looked between her partner and Unique. "Are you telling me, that I should get back in touch with Eric?"

"With Eric?" Allan spurted. He opened his eyes. "I thought we made a deal not to mention his name again."

"I ain't mentioning him because I want to," the woman argued. She pointed at Unique. "The magic lady made me think of him."

Both set of eyes landed on Unique, who slowly backed away.

"Errh. Something must have gone wrong," Unique said in an attempt to defend herself.

"You bet ya, something went wrong." The woman narrowed her eyes. "I ain't coming to you just so you can judge me! Ain't gonna stand for you ruining my marriage either."

Unique had a hard time following Mary's words. What was she trying to say?

"Why would you do such a thing to my wife?" Allan's voice rose with his anger. "We ain't gotten over it yet. So why you have to bring up the past?"

Unique wanted to yell at them that she couldn't do anything else. Her powers involved the past.

"Is it because you want Allan to yourself? Well, I'll tell you what, Missy. That ain't gonna happen!"

Unique shot a glance to the man. With his untidy appearance, unshaven face and dirty, sprawled clothes, she couldn't imagine how on earth that the woman would come to that conclusion. His was close to repulsing.

"That wasn't the case at all!" she tried. The shouts of the couple grew in intensity and Unique had to cover her ears. She couldn't even hear her own thoughts in this noise. They yelled insults at each other.

"What you yellin' at me for?" The woman pointed at Unique. "She's the one responsible for this."

"But you're the one who cheated on me. She isn't responsible for that." Allan turned to leave.

Mary spun around to Unique, her eyes narrowed. "You bitch." She charged forth, with her hand raised.

Unique backed away. This woman was insane. The wall of the shed stopped her, and she couldn't do anything, but wait for the woman to reach her. It was going to hurt, that much she knew. She couldn't run, and she couldn't look away.

Just seconds before the woman's hand came in contact with Unique's cheek, she saw a hand reach out and stop the woman. In a steel grip, Mary's hand was jerked back.

With widened eyes, she watched as Sion towered over the woman, his eyes dark.

"Get your filthy hands off her," he threatened. The woman swallowed, staring straight into his eyes. His grip on her wrist prevented her from running away. She struggled against him, but he wouldn't budge. He nodded at Unique. "Apologize. Now!"

The woman nodded and turned her eyes to meet Unique's look. "I'm sorry."

"Good, now. I'm not sure what you thought she could help you with in regards to your marriage. But unfaithful bitches already made their own beds." Sion released her hand. "Perhaps consider keeping your legs closed, the next time."

The woman ran away after that. Sion turned to Unique. "Are you okay?"

She nodded; she was only a bit shaken up. He laid an arm around her and led her away from the shed.

"You know..." he started. They were walking outside the park. "Humans can feel all the emotions from us. It sometimes makes them do irrational things."

"I noticed..."

"Feara would agree with me on this," he said.

"Who?" Unique didn't recognize the name.

"She was one of the Goddess' that was banished from Haims. Her power was fear, and she had too much power up there."

"How many were banished?"

Sion blew up his cheeks and let the air seep out slowly. "Well. Roughly? Around fifty. It was not only the gods but their offspring too. If they abused their negative power, they were banished. Morticia's kids in particular."

"Did you know any of them?" she asked.

"Well, yeah. Feara and I were the same age. We often practiced together. You could get a beautiful thing from mixing fear and passion." He grinned. "Of course it didn't always work the way we planned. We drove our parents crazy. She was my half-sister."

"And apart from Feara?"

His eyes darkened. "My big sister, Envy. She was cast away too."

"Were you close?"

Sion didn't answer right away; he walked over to a small side-walk bench and sat down. There was a small pond in front of them, and funny looking animals walked around saying weird noises. Humans of all ages were casting breadcrumbs to them.

"That's ducks." He pointed at them. "Wild animals that humans use as outside pets."

Unique didn't say anything.

"She was the closest family I had when I grew up. We both suffered under Amora and Fury's lack of parenting skills." He fiddled with his fingers. "I still think she was unfairly cast away, but every time I mention it, my parents shut it down right away."

"Perhaps it hurt them to think of her? Since not much can be done when Lif has decided on something."

He shrugged. "Maybe you're right. To be honest, I don't know."

They watched the human's feed the ducks. Unique giggled every time one of the weird birds attempted to fly, it looked hilarious. Sion shot her a glance every time.

"What?" she asked after the umpteenth time.

"Nothing." He ruffled his hair with his right hand and looked away. "It's just... You have a nice laugh."

She blushed. Her cheeks became warm, and she wished she had a fan to cool down. Was her heartbeat racing?

"Thank you," she muttered. "Oh, and thank you for before... You know... With the crazy woman.

He laughed. "You're welcome, Unique."
