Lost and Found
“Can Mimi Clouse report to the main office immediately, the headmaster would like a word? That is all.” Said the anonymous voice through the speakers, which hung on the ancient walls of Southcott High.
Mimi Clouse was scared of Mr McHale the headmaster because of his beady eyes that watched you like a hawk over his long crow like nose that also held his thin, grey and crooked spectacles and not to mention his deep set wrinkles that made him look billions of years old. But to add to his overwhelming ugliness he wore an old, tired, brown blazer with dark red and yellow buttons that had been stained over the many years with coffee, pen ink and jam from the many doughnuts that he stores in a large wooden desk draw, his trousers were meant to be cream but over the past 30 years had turned into a hideous brown and had been stained with urine looking and smelling like it had never been in contact with a washing machine.
As Mimi stepped into the dark gloomy room, holding her breath, that had lingering smells of stale sweat and rotten food she shuddered. She could feel the tension in the room as if someone was behind her, watching her, making her feel uncomfortable and she knew perfectly well who it was.
“Clare Farry has told me you stole the missing Football Championship Cup that our school won last year. Is it true?” Mr McHale said in a deep and booming voice.
“No sir it isn’t true. I didn’t steal anything, you can check my locker and all of my pockets but you’re not going to find anything!” and at this point Mimi had put her hands over her face and started to cry.
“You don’t sound so sure. I am going to make sure you didn’t steal it by getting the janitor to search through your locker.” Mr McHale was gradually losing his temper but he wasn’t allowed to show it so instead he told Mimi, in his calmest voice, to leave his office and get back to lesson.
Mimi left the office in a mood that said to people ‘leave me alone or I will bit your head off’. As she was slowly walking down the corridor determined to be even later for lesson she heard the sound of high heels and giggling. Turning around just in time she twisted Clare’s arm up her back because she knew what Clare had in mind for her. Clare was the school bully who always wore her bright blonde hair in a high ponytail and looked good in whatever she wore; her uniform consisted of the shortest black skirt that one could get their hands on and some pink and blue badges on her purple blazer and black knee length socks. She always saw Mimi with her back against a wall so she thought it would be funny to see her get stuck to it with a little addition called super glue. In her mind, Mimi struggled to be free of the wall, she could hear Clare chuckle, “Ohh, nice relationship you have going on there. Don’t want to get in the way of you two love birds.” And with that she and her clan of copycats ran to their next lesson.
In the middle of the next lesson, which coincidentally she and Clare had together, Clare asked Mimi what she did. Like she didn’t know!!!!
“So little Miss Perfect got told off did she? What did you do this time, blow up the school science block or poison a cafeteria lady?” Clare chuckled at her thoughts and Mimi shook her head. “No, then what did you do?”
Mumbling Mimi told her what she supposedly did. Clare knew what she ‘had done’ because at the time Mimi was being told off Clare was behind the door listening in on the conversation and struggling not to laugh or wet herself, but trying to see what was going on she persuaded her clan to prop her up so she could see through the tiny window above the door which wasn’t easy because Clare wasn’t the thinnest girl around.
Back in lesson the rumours had already started like wild fire. One about her hitting a teacher, another threatening the head about his death coming sooner than expected. But the truth was in Mimi and Clare. Mimi knew she had the courage to tell the truth despite the fact that The Bully could kill her and she knew Clare would only tell the lies that made her look good. God she hated backstabbing, boyfriend stealing and jerk faced Clare flamin’ Farry!!
Sitting at the dinner table by herself, Mimi cried, slowly forming a pool around her, Clare had finished having a go at her ages ago but Charlotte, Ginger, and Ellesse hadn’t. They ganged up on her on the way to lunch and just about finished punching, slapping and kicking her when Mrs Shwaydanski came to discuss Mimi’s homework situation in her German lessons.
Less than an hour after she left the hall Mr McHale came to apologise for his behaviour in his office. Though Mimi nearly threw up because of his stench his apology was accepted but what on earth was he saying sorry for, he had done nothing. Surprised at what had happened she still needed questions to be answered like where is the cup? Why are you apologising? What is going on? And so on.
2 weeks later and the cup hadn’t been mentioned once!!! So just to make sure the case had been closed she went searching for it.
It was a perfect plan. Take food from the fridge, have a map of school, charge her phone and top the credit up. And to add to the perfect plan it was the end of school, the summer holidays which meant she could sneak in and find the cup hoping to stop the stupid bulling she was getting off some stupid and pathetic girls.
The bells rang loud and clear to mark another year gone and the past behind them. But for Mimi it meant operation ‘Fix It’. The large grey doors had been shut, secure and apparently thief proof for 3 hours now and Mimi had searched for the cup in lockers, classrooms and to be sure Mr McHale didn’t take it to annoy Mimi she took a sneak peek into his office. She saw dust surrounding the Apple Mac and a small spider make its way across the large brown desk ready to eats its prey.
She searched high and low for it but couldn’t see much. Quickly and quietly she pulled out a torch, pressed the button hoping for some light but nothing changed. Feeling around the science block she was currently in, she hurried from classroom to classroom looking for a battery for her torch but there were none.
She slipped inside a classroom and rested there for the night. It was uncomfortable but at least she was safe, but to make for a better night’s sleep she fashioned a small pillow out of her backpack but hoping not to crush her LG Cookie. She was probably the only one in the school that could say she slept in class overnight!!! As she drifted off to sleep a humongous yellow and green portal slowly opened right next to where she lay. In almost slow motion a miniscule hand crept out of the portal and carefully dragged Mimi across the dust science lab floor towards the portal.
After waking up to the sound of leaves drifting with the wind along the floor she looked up to see yellowish people staring at her.
“Wow mom is this what a hobo looks like then?” cried a child behind her. Looking up she saw who the high pitched voice belonged to; a small pale child who looked petrified of what Mimi was capable of.
“Yes son but she is not from March like us.” Shouted another voice that was louder than any other she could hear in the background.
“STAY AWAY WHAT EVER IT IS DOES NOT BELONG HERE SO DO NOT TOUCH IT OR ELSE YOU WILL BE KNOWN AS A FORIGN CONTAMENANT!!!” Bellowed the mayor of the town who was actually speaking through what looked like a sky blue hornets’ nest shaped microphone, which stood out against the dark and wintery sky.
Just ignore it she told herself. These things were not normal either. But somehow they looked similar but there was something about them that was different. Was it their voice, the shape and size of the head or the length of their arms and legs? She couldn’t tell. In fact they all looked like giant Bratz Dolls from her point of view.
Helped up by a friendly Gimon called Sasha; who had pink and white hair but mainly it was the clothes that attracted Mimi’s eye, Sasha wore a large floral dress and a small black cardigan, she explained what she was doing and eventually came around to the fact that this was another world, not hers. Sasha came across as being weird and alarmingly unusual because when Mimi was invited in to what she would call a house, she ran into the ‘kitchen’, pulled a huge cereal box out of the cupboard and ate it!!! But at least she was kind and not leaving Mimi in the middle of the road to look foolish.
She was offered a box but refused, so to break the awkward silence Mimi started a conversation.
“So hi, I’m Mimi and I dunno what I’m doing here. I was looking for something but I can’t find it.” Mimi pulled out a picture she stole off a presentation board she found. It showed the Cup the day it was won with the date in the corner; 02/05/2008 3:25 PM. The cup was football shaped and a sort of golden colour with the school name engraved.
“Oh yes I have seen that, it is know well as The Mystical Miracle Maker but others call it the Orb.” Leaning over she added “some say it’s a key to another world!” Sasha repeated over and over again until she was wacked over the head by Mimi.
“Well Sasha I sort of need it right now for later purposes.” Mimi whispered it so she and Sasha were the only people who could hear what was being said.
“Well it is billions of years old and so do I because my family are imprisoned in a cave protected by the king Valdeeer Agorman who is the evil warlock you saw with the hornet’s before I helped you up. But there is no chance of getting it back, even if you tried.” Sasha sarcastically spat.
“Ok, ok it’s just my school reputation is at stake and you are worried about a dumb family you are never going to see again, just give up while you are still behind. Just remember you are the last of your family.” Mimi was losing her temper which to be honest was very hard for her to do. So with that she got up from the red leather sofa, which at that time was the same colour as her face, and stormed out of the room leaving Sasha looking shocked.
She was glad to get out of that house; if she stayed there any longer she would have killed Sasha. But she still needed the Orb so she went to find another Gimon, one less annoying than Sasha. In fact she reminded Mimi of some one ... CLARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was almost night time and Mimi still hadn’t found anyone willing to take her in. She couldn’t help but feel as if Sasha had something to do with it!!!
After frantically searching for shelter from the pelting rain, Mimi found comfort in the most unusual place, a filthy garbage disposal unit. However she didn’t know how to get home and so with that thought replaying through her mind over and over again she fell into a long deep sleep.
“Get up!!! I’m not carrying you anymore you lazy butt.” Sasha calmly said as Mimi was being hauled into the front door to Sasha’s house, “yes, I know you are still so angry with me bu-”
“No I’m not angry with you; I just don’t understand why you brought me back to your house after the way I spoke to you.” Mimi said with the most confused face she could pull off, of which she was impressed by.
“Well after you told me about the Orb I visited a Prophet, asking about it and I showed them the picture, but they also said there was no way of getting back because of the high security,” and before Mimi interrupted she continued, “You left it on the table after you stormed out of my home, I went out to visit the prophets because I felt bad because of the way I treated you, but also because I do miss my family and was told that in fact it poofed into the church and pounced onto the pedestal 3 weeks ago, the same time you told me that it went missing. And before you ask any questions I just want to say I’m sorry for being mean and accusing you.” Well that was unexpected.
That very night Mimi and Sasha met at the back of the church and planed a scheme to get back the Orb. Sasha crept into the open window of the church lavatory, helping Mimi through the window and dodged the lasers that moved around the domed church protecting its prisoner, the Orb.
Sasha’s foot slipped on the freshly polished floor and set the alarm off the laser causing the 2 vicars and 5 priests dashing through the church entrance.
Eventually after what seemed like an hour of running, Sasha and Mimi sat behind a tree treating the Orb like royalty and slept for hours until they heard the tweeting of the Delmanion Butterfly and slowly dawdled to Sasha’s house to celebrate their victory.
Wow all this and according to her watch, in Earth it had all taken place in 2 ½ hours!!! But as she and Sasha popped party poppers, blew into funny whistles and burst balloons whilst dancing to March’s version on Dancing in The Street, getting home was Mimi’s top priority. But suddenly remembered Sasha’s family and how they were trapped. Night fell and Mimi realised how much she missed her family and wondered if she could reunite Sasha with hers.
Morning came and Mimi caught Sasha crying. She slid over to her side of the bed and tried to comfort her.
“Sasha, I miss my family and I know you do too. The only way you are going to get them back is by having a plan. And I think I have the perfect one.”
“So let me get this straight: you want me to sneak into Valdeeer’s sleeping quarters, take the key from his ear ring and run all the way to you on the opposite side of the castle, all it the space of 10 minutes?” Said Sasha with the most puzzled face in history.
“YES!!!! The perfect plan isn’t it. I still feel bad about a few days ago, so I thought I’d make it up to you.”
With a Coat in one hand and a torch in the other, Mimi and Sasha set off.
