*Niall POV*
This seemed messed up to me. I pulled my grey shirt over my head and grabbed my snapback from by dresser
We were going to a fight. Yeah, you heard me, a fight. A stupid hybrid fight.
Louis and Zayn though it would be fascinating. I found them cruel, making creature, humans, even though they were half animal, fight to the death is awful. I mean come on, half human people, half human!!
Harry argued they were animals. I said they were people that had people thoughts and minds and brain capacity.
I thought the pet thing was cruel. It was just so cruel. The way people treat them is cruel. I mean sure there's some crazy hybrids, but there are crazy people too, that doesn't mean we should treat them like trash.
Liam agreed with me, but we were all going. Zayn, Louis and Harry were not bad guys, they just couldn't see the light. I'm gonna make them see the light, at the end of the tunnel if they don't shut up about this stupid fight.
I really hope they will today, seeing fights to the death.
I went to the kitchen shoved a pop tart in my mouth before we left.
We all lived in the same house part of the year, at least when we were here. Usually, we lived separately in London, but were taking a little break from touring and living out here in the country for a while to 'bond' as Simon put it.
Louis and Harry were talking, Zayn was on the phone with Perrie, his girlfriend, and Liam was waiting
Finally we left, took them long enough. I climbed into the front seat. I don't want to be here, at least I should get shotgun
I mumbled all the way there about the stupidity of it all, but no one listened. They were all to busy being punks to care about my feelings. Dicks.
They all seemed excited and eager, Liam looked nervous. He would, he was probably the most responsible of us all, that's not saying much. We are all pretty much 5 year olds.
We pulled in front of a giant warehouse. It looked cold inside. The windows were all borded up and the walls were covered in graffiti.
We climbed out and went in, me trailing slightly behind everyone else, trying to get a glimpse inside. I wonder what condition they lived in.
"Ahh, you're One Direction," this guy who was blocking the entrance said,
"That's us," Liam said simply, pulling out his ID.
"Go ahead in, first row for you boys," he smiled and let us in.
We first signed a paper for his daughters. We were in a massive boy band. It was helpful sometimes, and I love what I do.
We went and sat down. The arena was technically a sandy pit below us a little. There were blood splotches in the sand and it was being brushed by a bored looking guy with headphones in.
Zayn poked his head over and looked under.
"Wow," he pulled himself back. "There's a lot of them back there. It's weird."
He shivvered a little bit.
There were all types of people there, fascinating really. Guys with dates, guys alone, old guys, young guys, mostly male, but there were some females as well.
Then it began. There was this announcer guy, and I wish we weren't so close.
First they put a cat hybrid in with another cat. It was ugly and gruesome and bloody. The bigger one practically tore the others throat out and we watched the small one bleed out and die.
Even Zayn, Louis and Harry looked sick
Each fight my heart hurt more for these creatures being forced to fight to the death.
Then the last fight came.
It was the finale, and best fighter apparently.
They tossed in an interesting creature.
It was a smallish boy, 15 or so. He had black hair that stuck to his forehead, pointy black ears and a pitch black tail. Wolf I'd guess.
Then they thew in a tiny cat hybrid, nothing special. Maybe the point was just to let these sickos watching a good bloody kill, not a fight, just a good bloody kill. That cat was tiny and looked damn terrified to be in the ring, looking up at the lights and the people, sniffing the air with his ears pressed back against his head.
The wolf one looked starved and injured. He walked with a slight limp and he glared up at the stands with a defiant angry expression.
The cat hybrid backed up, trying to get away. He was so scared and he was shaking, his eyes had rolled back and he was sweating bullets. He had no chance.
The wolf guys pressed himself against the doors. The cat came over and hugged him. They just hugged, and i felt my heart drop to my feet.
"They better not make them fight," Liam muttered, gripping his seat. These guys were friends, they couldn't make them fight each other.
Them out of nowhere a bunch of wild starved hybrids were thrown in, and they wanted a kill. The managers of this place needed a good fight or they didn't get the money.
The pack advanced and the wolf stood before his cat friend.
The hybrids all attacked at once. I found myself holding my breath. I wanted those underdogs to win, I needed those underdogs to win.
The next thing I know I'm out of my seat.
"Stop this," I yelled. This was too far, this was absolute shite.
The hybrids froze, the crowd froze, and everyone looked at me.
Then there was a scream of pain. It was shrill and terrified and sad.
It came from the cat.
He was in pain. Blood spurted from his many cuts. He had a head wound and he didn't look good.
"Stop, this is inhumane," I yelled, looking up at the announcer. "This is bloody murder."
"Niall," Harry said, trying to drag me down.
What happened next made me sit down in shock.
The wolf hybrid screamed in pain and clawed at his neck.
The collar seemed to be hurting him.
Then they shot the cat. Just like that, no fuss, no nothing, right through the head.
Then the wolf went mental.
He howled and attacked the man, but several more men attacked the wolf.
They thew a rope around his neck and more around his arms. He was dragged to the ground, kicking and biting and snarling.
He was howling bloody murder and I couldn't even make out the rabid words he was screaming. The hell he was raining down on them
The wolf boy howled, I could tell if wasn't rabid anger, it was almost heartbreak, vengeance.
"Wait stop," I yelled, jumping the short distance into the pen, landing softly on my feet. It was the stupidest thing I had ever done in my life
"Sir," someone said.
"You're hurting him," I cut them off. I was done with this crap, this couldn't go on.
I approached the wolf boy, he was lying in the ground, held down by ropes.
Someone leaped in after me.
"Niall," Louis grabbed me by the shoulder
"Niall it's just a hybrid," Louis said softy. He looked over. "They aren't like us."
"Louis, he's in pain, he needs help," I whispered. "It dosen't matter. You wouldn't let this happen to your pet even."
"Niall, he's just some mutt, don't do something dumb," Louis warned.
I brused him off and took another step.
"Hi," I said to the wolf boy. "I'm Niall. You are?"
He didn't say anything, I don't think he could if he wanted too. His neck was all torn up and burned and bruised from that collar. They were pulling back with all their might, and his arms were pressed into the sand.
"His name is Shadow," a man told me.
"Hi Shadow, they're going to untie your neck now," I said, glaring at the people.
"Sir," He said.
"Just do it," I snapped, startling them all. He did it and put his hands up, taking a step back
"Now your hand," I muttered, taking another step to him, so I was standing at his head.
They let go of one hand.
He raised it and touched his neck, wincing.
"I'm sorry," I said, crouch down closer to him.
He licked his lips nervously. He was waiting for punishment. That was absolutely horrible
"Other hand," I said to the men holding him.
"Are you sure? he's vicious, you'll want to move back," one man yelled.
"Do it," I called back.
They all let go.
Nothing standing between me and the wolf boy, Shadow.
"Would you like help up Shadow?" I asked, holding out my hand.
He didn't accept, he lashed out with his hand, his long nails inches from my face.
He stood up and crawled away quickly cowering in the wall.
He grabbed at his neck again and whimper. They'd shocked him again.
"Enough with it, you're gonna kill him,' I shouted.
The announcer guy looked befuddled on what to do, serves him right the absolute prick.
Shadow looked at me, his black hair stuck to his forehead with sweat and blood. He looked terrified and alone. They grabbed him and yanked him away.
He looked at me as they pulled.
I swear I saw him mouth "thank you" They say hybrids are animals, that they have no moral or feelings. That can't be true, this abused hybrid thanked me. That is moral and feeling and ever bit of humanity I have.
The rest of the lads came to see what got it to me.
"Niall you could have been killed," Liam said, wrapping his arms around me
"He wouldn't hurt me," I said, almost in a daze, pulling away.
"Those mutts are unpredictable," Zayn said. "Don't be all hybrid whisperer Niall. It just doesn't happen like the movies."
"He wasn't, he's just scared," i protested. "He isn't vicious."
"There all only animals,' Harry said gently, pulling me away.
"I want him,' I said simply.
"What?"Louis asked
"Shadow, he needs to get out of here, he's dying, can't you tell?" I shouted, causing several people to look at me
"Niall, he's unpredictable, a fighting animal, it's not like we can just pick him up and go," Liam said gently. "Plus, what would we do with a hybrid?"
"But he needs help," I said.
"Niall, what if we just ask if he's okay, will that satisfy you? We can't-" Louis said.
"Fine," I snapped, dashing away and dodging around, trying to find someone who would work there or something.
There was the front door security guard.
"Shadow?" I demanded "Shadow? The wolf hybrid? Where is he?"
"The wolf?" he asked, looking startled.
"Yeah, him ,where his he?" I demanded.
"Over there, in that room, but I'm not sure, you'll need an accompany," he said.
"I'll wait," I said plopping down.
"Gee Nialler, what's gotten into you?" Harry asked, throwing himself down in the seat next to me.
"His eyes," I muttered, wringing my hands nervously
"What? Zayn asked, sitting down as well.
"His eyes were so sad, and they were so human. They were so intellegent. I couldn't let them keep killing him like that. You boys have to understand."
They were quiet.
"Niall, could you really handle a hybrid? Their a lot of work, and us being on tour soon," Louis dwindled off.
"I have to at least look, he's hurt," I said determined. Even if I couldn't take care of him myself, I would make sure he was taken care of.
Finally someone came over to us. It was a short plump man with a scar and a whip hanging from his belt.
"You're that boy who jumped into the fight," he said.
He was pulling on heavy gloves.
"Yes, that would be me,"I said
"Even though that's not allowed I admire your spunk," he winked. "So it's that wolf? Is it"
"Yeah, Shadow," I corrected. I was sick of people calling him a wolf, he had a name.
"Here we go again." He said, opening the door for us as we walked into a kennel like area.
"Pardon?" I asked.
"People are always interested in him, they think they can break him. Look how good it turns out, he's always returned with a note that the guy is maimed or dead. That wolf hybrid is trouble boys, I'd suggest picking a nice quiet pup from a breeder."
"we just want to see," I repeated, following the man down the corridor.
The cages were much to small for humans, and the hybrids in them were dirty and sickly looking, with blood still caking their wounds.
Down at The end of the row he stopped and so did i, looking in.
Shadow was there, his ears hanging down and his tail tucked between his legs. His clothes hung lose in his thin bony frame and he was still covered in blood, his own and others.
The man opened the door.
He pressed a button and Shadow yelped, jumping, banging his head on the top of the cage.
"Don't!" I shouted, grabbing the button.
"What?"he asked, surprised.
"You're hurting him," I said, pointing to where Shadow was trying to rub his neck through the collar.
It was caked with blood and burns and bruises and cuts.
He was a mess.
"He doesn't have feelings like us, son,"the man sighed, like he'd had the conversation a million times
"He's half human, he has feelings,' I insisted.
"Whatever kid, he's yours, get that mutt out of my hair ASAP, come back tomorrow morning and fetch him."
"Fine," Zayn said, surprising me.
The guys practically pushed us out the back and we went to the car.
"Zayn?" Harry questioned, still looking surprised.
"The guy was making me mad, I want to prove a point now," Zayn gripped the wheel and sped out of the parking lot, taking the turn way too fast.
What did i get myself into.
