Brittany-
The next morning, I woke up to Jack staring at me. I smiled and sat up to grab my glasses. Jack pulled me back to him and kissed my head. I looked up at him, his chocolate eyes were soft. He left out a small sigh as I traced the outline of his tattoo on his chest. The two of us lie there in silence simply enjoying each other’s company. Soon we began to hear the soft, whispered voices of our friends.
“Yeah, I watched him carry her out of the back last night. Then she went in his bunk.” I recognized the voice as Alex. “I wonder if they fucked.”
“Leave them alone. I’m glad they’re finally not trying to kill each other.” Hannah chimed in. I heard her slap Alex upside the head. “They’re so cute together. Just think, the baby will be cute. Baby Barakat.” Shit. Jack couldn’t find out about the baby.
“What do you mean ‘the baby’?” A few more voices came in.
“Shit. Nothing…” I heard the worry in Hannah’s voice. “Nothing.” I looked up at Jack who was playing with his phone. Maybe he was too distracted to hear what was said.
“Jack, I’m hungry. I’m going to go get something for breakfast. You want anything?” I sat up and grabbed his hoodie at the end of his bunk.
“Yeah, I’ll give you a hand. I love that hoodie and all but it looks way hotter on you.” He winked and pecked my cheek.
“You’re so cute when you try and flirt.” I giggled and crawled over him and out of his bunk.
“You’re mean.” He pouted as he followed me out. Jack took my hand as we walked out to the front area of the bus. Hannah and Zack sat at the table while Rian and Alex sat at the couch. “What are you doing for breakfast?” I shrugged and looked at him.
“What do you want?”
“I don’t know. How about I make breakfast for you? I mean the only things we have right now are toaster waffles and cookie crisp.” He wrapped his arms around my waist. “Or I could take you out for breakfast. No. I will take you out for breakfast. Go get ready.” He pecked my cheek and pushed me to the bunks. I rolled my eyes and walked to the back to pick out an outfit for the day. I rummaged through my clothes and wasn’t satisfied with anything. I grabbed Jack’s boner shirt and my black skinny jeans and went to the bathroom to change. When I came out Jack was standing in front of the door waiting.
Jack-
As Brittany wandered off to the bunks, I could feel everyone’s eyes burning a hole in the back of my head. I turned to face them and saw the huge grin on Hannah’s face.
“Ooh, scandalous.” Hannah winked.
“Before you guys ask, no we didn’t have sex and no we’re not a couple.” I watched their faces intently, looking for some reaction.
“You guys woke me up again.” Alex chuckled and nudged me. I shot him a glare. “I’m kidding bro, I’m glad you two are finally working things out.
“Me too… That’s why I don’t want to fuck it up this time. I think I finally got it right.” I sighed and scratched the back of my neck.
“You won’t. Just keep doing what you’re doing and she’ll be yours. Now go get ready for your date.” Hannah pushed me to the bunks. Just then Brittany stepped out from the bathroom wearing black skinny jeans and my boner shirt.
“What is it with you stealing all my clothes?” I looked down at the small girl. “I mean I’m not complaining because you look fucking hot as hell in my shirt.”
“They’re comfy.” She put her hands on my hips and smiled up at me. “How many times have you worn my clothes in high school?” I leaned down and kissed her quickly before changing so I could take her out for breakfast. After I changed, I went back to the front of the bus where Brittany waited for me with her sister and the guys.
“You ready?” She nodded and stood up.
“Yeah, I just need to grab my phone.” When she came back, she had her phone in hand and in my hoodie from earlier. “Now I’m ready.” I took her hand and lead her off the bus. Brittany and I walked around the venue until we found a small diner.
“You look beautiful.” I watched as a small blush painted her cheeks. “I love how I can do that to you.”
“Do what?”
“Make you blush.” I moved an arm around her waist. We were seated in a small booth in the corner of the diner. The waitress left us alone as we looked over the menu. As we sat there, I found myself thinking about a relationship with Brittany. I wanted a relationship with her, but if she didn’t want one with me and only wanted to stay friends, I’d still be happy. I would still have her.
“Jack?”
“What’s wrong?” I knew that tone. That was her scared or worried voice.
“Nothing… Where do you see us going?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like relationship wise. Do you ever see us eventually having a relationship?” I moved her bangs out of her face.
“Look at me, I love you. I love you so much it hurts. I want whatever you want. As long as you’re happy, I am too. If being in a relationship with me makes you happy, then we’ll make it official. If just seeing how things go and testing out the waters is what you want, then we’ll keep it like this.”
“Would you love me no matter what happens with us?”
“Of course… What makes you ask?”
“Nothing, Jack. Let’s eat before the food gets cold.” I sighed and let it be. I knew her. Something was on her mind and she wouldn’t budge. She sat quietly eating her breakfast. I looked up to see the guys and Hannah sitting at a table trying to hide from us. She looked up at me and smiled.
“What?”
“Thank you.”
“For what?” I put my arm around her shoulders and brought her closer to me.
“Everything… Being the old you. Making me happy again.” Her smile was contagious. I leaned in and kissed her temple.
Brittany-
Going out with just Jack was fun. I missed this. I missed the days where it would be just Jack and I. During breakfast, I tried to tell him that I was pregnant but failed. He looked at me, eyes soft. The date was cute. He occasionally fed me strawberries and pancakes.
“You have a little something…” He swooped in and kissed me on the lips. He tasted like strawberries and cream. “Got it.” He mumbled against my lips causing me to giggle at the sensation. For the first time in what felt like forever, I felt butterflies.
“You’re a dork.”
“Yeah, but I’m your dork.” He gave me his signature goofy grin. “Hey, let’s get out of here. Head out for a walk or something.” I nodded as he got the check and paid for our food. As we left his hand found mine again and he led me off to another location. Part of me wanted to make things official with Jack, but another part was weary. He led me back to the bus.
“I just need to grab something then we can go.” He smiled as he punched in the lock code on the door. “Babe, you okay?” He eyed me cautiously. I nodded. “Is it okay if I call you that? I know we’re not official yet…”
“Jack, relax.” I laughed at the man. “It’s fine. We’re unofficial, yes. But I’m still you’re unofficial girlfriend.” He grabbed a blanket from his bunk and came back out to the front.
“Let’s go. Oh do you have your epipen? I know you’re allergic to a lot of shit.”
“Babe, that’s only with foods.”
“Okay… what about your inhaler? You have asthma.”
“Jack!” I laughed at him and a slight hurt look flashed across his face. “I’m fine. I have everything. Relax…”
“Sorry for being worried.” He leaned in and kissed me softly again. “Now can we get to part two of our date?”
