He strolled in with his attitude clear: He didn't want to be here. That didn't matter to me, he was at least making an effort. "Alpha Jones, how nice of you to join us." Alpha said, his attempt of being sincere falling flat. His bitterness was clear.

"If you don't mind my asking, what is the situation I am needed for?" Zayden said. He must of sensed the Alphas vulnerable state and had a kinder tone. "There was a man, he tried throwing a bomb into our house. My daughter picked it up and ran, getting the pack out of danger. As she was running back, the bomb exploding, injuring my daughter a great deal. The pack doctor fears her mate is the only thing that can save her. " The alpha said, visibly shaken. His wife started sobbing again.

Zayden gave a sympathetic look to the Alpha and Luna. He sighed. "What do I have to do?" He said. The pack doctor answered. "All you must do is touch her. I'm sure you would be aware if you're mates from then on." She said and chuckled.

Zayden's POV

So the Alpha's daughter is hurt. Why did that mean I had to ruin MY fun time with .... with ... oh shit what was her name. Trisha I think?

For the first time I looked at the girl laying on the couch. I couldn't deny, she was goregous. Despite the cuts and bruises of course. Her dirty blonder hair layed on her shoulder in waves. She had a tan complexion and freckles scattered across her small nose.

I walked over to the couch and touched her arm. Warm tingles shot through my arm and alerted all of my senses. It was the best feeling, like I was asleep for a thousand years, and just by one touch, I am reawakened.

The Alpha gave me a hopeful look. I stepped back. I couldn't hve a mate, not yet. I'm supposed to be young, live my life! I am an Alpha, I am not supposed to be settled down yet, I'm supposed to have a different girl in bed every week.

I looked at the Alpha and shook my head. "She's not my mate." I said. What the hell do you think you are doing? My wolf said to me.

I'm not ready for a mate.

How can you deny our mate? I mean look at her, she is beautiful, but most importantly she is made for us. And she needs our help. He growled at me.

Someone else can help her. We will only cause her trouble anyways.

No, she needs us. Don't be a fool. Help her get better. She sacrificed her life for her pack, the least we can do for our mate.

I sat there arguing with my wolf. Everyone looked down disappointed. "Alpha, may I talk to you privately?" I asked him. He shook his head, and I followed him into the kitchen. "You needed to speak to me?" He said. You could tell he was worn.

"Yes Alpha. I needed to tell you, Your daughter is my mate." His face lit up. "Alpha, I will help your daughter back to help, but that is all. I am not ready for a mate, I think it would be best she didn't know she is my mate when she awakes. There is no offense to your pack, your family, or her. I believe it is in everybody's best interest. " I said. He looked at me, different emotions flashing through his eyes. First happy, then angry, and finally sad. He nodded his head. We walked back into the living room.

He told everyone about the situation and told them that it stays between us. You could tell no one ws happy about it, but didn't speak up.

"What do I need to do?" I said hoarsely to the pack doctor. "Well we need her wolf to recognize you. I recommend we take her to the infirmary, and I also recommend you are the one who takes her. She is too fragile to be handled by anyone else." She said sadly. "Alright." I said. I walked over to her and picked her up, bridal style. I followed the pack doctor into a hospital type room. It was similar to the rooms in our pack house, except this seemed more comfortable. It was a large room, a twin size bed with white sheets in one corner, a counter along one wall with medical supplies, and a small brown pull-out couch in front of the bed. A large window sat next to the bed.

The doctor pulled the sheets back and I layed her down gently. I heard the pack doctor talking to her family and friends. "It's best that you guys aren't in here. You can visit her later. " I turned and faced her. She was an older woman, maybe in her 40's. In werewolf years, she was a lot older.

"So what is the first step?" I said, wanting to get this over with. She looked at me and shook her head. "So you're denying your mate before you even meet her?" She said in disbelief. What she was saying made sense, but it was none of her damn buisness.

"Personal reasons. " I said. Again, she shook her head. "Okay, the first thing we need to try is holding her hand. If that doesn't work, then we have other steps, but i'm not sure you want to go too deep into those woods. "

"Okay, whatever I have to do. " I said with a loud exhale of breath. I walked over to the chair next to the bed, picking up her small hand. My heart jumped looking at her beautiful face. I hope she gets better, maybe we could be friends until I am ready to be Alpha!

Then again, I'm not to sure about how she would take that. Maybe she wants a mate, and maybe it doesn't. I don't really know anything about her.

Maybe if I got to know her, I would want my mate. But then again maybe I wouldn't like her and I would be stuck with her the rest of my life.

I sat there, my thoughts a jumbled mess. I hated how one girl did this to me. I went from the big shot Alpha to the weak mate in 15 minutes and I have never even met this girl! Of course I know she will be perfect. She was made for me. But that was the worst part. I don't want this. It's not that I don't want her, I don't want this life. I have seen it happen before.

The strongest men break down the most, they become love sick puppies. Suddenly Your entire life revolves around this one person and it changes your life. It's like that person is the only thing you have to live for.

The doctor had her hooked up to a bunch of medial equipment, and I could hear her heartbeat, or at least a faint one.

My heart broke at the image of her. Her face was pale, lips cracked. Her hair was in a messy bun at the top of her head, her moms doing I would assume. If I didn't know any better I would say she was dead. She look lifeless and cursed myself for even considering not helping her. But hell, I didn't even know her name.

I made my decision. As soon as she was back to full health, I would leave her alone. She wouldn't know we are mates, and she wouldn't know who I am. Regardless of how I felt about her, my feelings for the future prevailed.

I pulled my phone out and called my best friend Rico.

Zayden ~ This is ridiculous.

Rico ~ What is?

Zayden ~ Sitting here holding some chicks hand I don't even know.

Rico ~ Luna?

Zayden ~ No, the Luna's daughter?

Rico ~ No, her name is Luna.

Zayden ~ O, ok. Dude come down here I'm B o r e d.

Rico ~ Can't, you two need to be alone. ;)

Zayden ~ Ha ha, thats sooo funny. I don't even know why I'm here.

Rico ~ Really dude? Why shouldn't you be there?

Zayden ~ I don't know this chick. I mean I just learned her name. For all I know she is a total bitch. Why should I care what happens to her? She is probably dead anyways. And so what if she is, she means nothing to me. I would much rather be in my room with, whatever her name was.

Rico ~ Wow bro, I can't belive you just said that.

Zayden ~ What? What did I say?

Rico ~ Nothing, I have to go.

*End of call*

I heard movement next to me and I jerked my head to the girl next to me. Suddenly her heart monitor escalated into frequent beeps, the way it should be. The doctor bolted in and pushed me aside. I stepped back and watched as the doctor checked her pulse, blood pressure, her eyes.

The doctor was blocking my view from the girl. I heard her coughing violently and then everything seemed normal again. The alpha, Luna and the guy who knocked on my door barged in the room and I walked out. Obviously she was fine, and my job was done.

I walked up to my room where the girl from before was still sitting on my bed, in just my T-shirt. "Uh, your still here." I said. What did I see in this girl? She wasn't even remotely attractive now. Damn mate bond!

This is going to change my life. For good or for bad, I don't know. But I have a feeling I will find out soon enough.
