I had a fairly perfect childhood. I was popular, never really got in trouble, and I was best friends with my two slightly older cousins, Alex and Jenny. I don't recall anything unusual happening. Of course, except that day.
I spent most of the day climbing trees with Alex and Jenny after mum and dad went out for that wedding anniversary dinner, but then Aunt Jackie and Uncle Josh called us in for dinner.
They said they were going out for a few hours and so me, Alex and Jenny were left to entertain ourselves. I suggested hide and seek. I wonder what life would have been like if I had never made that suggestion...
Alex lost the game of peanut (painfully, literally) and so he was on. I quickly ran upstairs searching frantically for a hiding place, you see the way we play, if you're found without a hiding place, you'll be tickled for minutes and you can't ask the others to stop tickling you. I shook the handle for the broom cupboard but typically, it was locked so as a last resort I scurried into Alex and Jenny's room and fortunately it was extremely messy so it would be easy to hide. I saw a gaggle of boxes surrounding the desk and I grabbed the side of the blanket under the desk but to my dismay Jenny had beat me to the perfect hiding spot.
"Jen? Can I join you? There is no where else to hide." I whispered hurriedly, she shuffled away making room in response. I muttered a word of thanks then squashed in.
A few minutes later Alex strode in and skimmed the room. He walked out and I whispered to Jenny,
"That was really close." She just grunted in response, then from the next room I heard Alex and Jen call out the song meaning that the game was over:
"OLLY OLLY OLLY! TITS IN THE TROLLEY, BALLS IN THE BISCUIT TIN! SITTING IN THE MEADOW WITH HER FINGER UP YOUR ASS, FIDDLING WITH YOUR DING A LING LING!" I was about to get out when I realised both of my cousins called, so who was in the spot with me..?
