"If this is to end in fire, then we shall all burn together."
Thorin says solemnly as the dragon raged, the Dwarves looking at their leader. The forges were waiting.
"These furnaces are stone cold." Balin murmurs solemnly, looking around as the dragon drew nearer.
"He's right. We've no fire hot enough to set them ablaze." Thorin's eyes were set on anger as he spun around and glanced at the once great Dwarves of Erebor. "Have we not?" He asks, his voice full of mockery and betrayal.
At the voice of ridicule from their leader, the Dwarves began to run around and set themselves to work at the fires, taking the time and re-living the spirit of the once great halls. The dragon, unaware, slithered inside just as the Dwarves were set and ready.
"NOW!" Thorin shouted, as they pulled the lever. The hot, liquid gold was poured unto the dragon's scaly back, him writhing in pain as it scalded him.
However, that was only in the Dwarves' persepective.
The dragon easily shook the gold off of him, his serpentine eyes wildly flashing, anger bubbling inside his gigantic body.
"This... is some..." Smaug sneered, his head whipping here, there. "Sordid scheme hatched between these filthy Dwarves..." Bilbo looked up at him in panic. "And those miserable tub-trading Lakemen."
The Dragon went on, his voice shaking with calm rage. "Those snivelling cowards with their long bows... and Black Arrows..." His eyes glistened with dangerous excitement. "Perhaps it is time I paid them a visit."
The Dwarves listened, trying to rack their brains, anything. Thorin spoke.
"I am taking back what you stole, you witless worm." He murmured silently.
"You will take nothing from me, Dwarf. I laid low your warriors of old. I instilled terror in the hearts of Men." Smaug looked at Thorin, his gaze challenging. "I... am King Under the Mountain!"
"This is not your kingdom," Thorin spat back cruelly. "These are Dwarf lands, this is Dwarf gold. And we will have our revenge!"
The humongous serpent craned his long, scaly neck, and laughed with mockery. "Revenge?! I'll show you revenge..." He scoffed, his jaws widening to a crazed smile. "I am fire. I... am death!"
Smaug roared and smashed through the stone walls of the Dwarven fortress, the debris easily sliding off and bringing loud shaking echoes through the earth. The Dwarves, and their hobbit, watched in horror as Smaug unleashed his first footstep of destruction: the way he set the plains ablaze with his fire.
They knew it was far too late. The Dragon flew easily over Lake-town, and with one gust of his fire, clusters of houses exploded into flames.
"Oh no. What have we done?"

- YOU -
"THORIN!"
I woke up with a start and saw my hand reaching out for something that isn't there.
I can feel it. The fire.
Thranduil enters myc hambers and I stared at him with wide eyes. "Hiril vuin..." he says slowly, carefully as he treads in front of me.
I felt tears stain my cheeks and I wipe them away. "Wh-What happened to him?"
"The Dragon has been set free by those Dwarves," Thranduil seethes. "I can feel his roars through the earth. Lake-town will be burned to the ground..." My hands flew to my mouth in panic, and he seems to be contemplating something.
"[y/n], we must go and see what has happened." He finally spoke, and I nod weak, helpless.
He shouts oreders in Elvish and I look for a pack, anything. I shoved the daggers I've found along the halls and some clothes. Chanigng my clothes to some light Elven attire, I ran after the guards and found Thranduil suiting up his armor. "Why are you wearing that...?" I falter, as his eyes suggest something entirely different.
And I know the feud between two races wasn't over.
~ P R E S E N T ~
The Mountain came into view as I tightened my hold on the reins of my horse. Thranduil sat as mighty and epic as a statue beside me, his crown of berries gone, replaced by a clean, silver coronet. I wore a small diadem adorned with sliver flowers and leaves, a blue lone gem in the center. I was his Queen now.
And the whole of Esgaroth knew of it.
Fishermen and wives—even children—bowed down and stood aside when I and Thranduil trod in the path on horseback. I saw the loaded carts being slowly having the supplies diminished with the stocks being handed down by ellons unto the Lake people. Ash and soot still evident in their clothes and faces; the people still trying to heal the wounded; the weeping of families beside the dead—it was evident.
The Dragon had taken Lake Town as its final victim.
I went down from my horse and looked at the scene before me. I cried; the tears went down from my eyes to my cheeks.
Wiping them away, I saw a small girl carrying lillies... And she was giving them to me.
I kneeled down beside her and tried my best to smile. "Hello there," I greeted. "Aren't you going to give that to the deceased?" I chose my words carefully.
She shook her head no. "It is for you, my lady." She smiles innocently, and hands me the flowers. I pat her head, and kissed her forehead. "May the Valar be with you, child," I say before I could think of it.
That certainly wasn't me.
Her smile sent my chest into this fluffy contented feeling, and I stood up from the ground. But then, just in time, I came face-to-face with a face too familliar.
Kili.
"Kili!" I shout and run towards him, but abruptly stop when I see him talking to the She-elf who went out with Legolas in the forest. That was around a week ago, bu t I still remember her red hair.
"You must go." She says with... Remorse? Guilt? Hesitation?
"Come with me." Kili insists, looking at her in the eyes. "I know how I feel... I do not fear that."
My heart speeds up at the confession happening before me. The way Kili looks at her... I feel so happy for him that I feel my happiness bubbling. "You make me feel alive." The elleth seems to be contemplating what he is saying, but then my spirits went down in the speed of light.
"I'm sorry." She says, and walks away.
"Anclalme." The red-haired elleth stops in her tracks. I watch the scene unfold behind the people scrambling here and there. Admidst all of it, though, I hear them claerly. "I do not know what that means." She denies.
Or did she?
I try to walk towards her, but she sees me first.
"Hiril vuin, what are you doing here?" She asks me as if I wasn't meant to be here at all. Kili looks at me and his eyes light up. He leaves to the boat he was tendig to, and embraces me from behind. He pulls away, and i smile at him. "By my beard, [y/n]!" The elleth seems uncomfortable and uncertain beside us, so I try and smile at her. I pull Kili away until we were out of earshot.
"Kili, go and get her." I state firmly, as his eyes try to search my face. I nodded once, and the way his face lit up in anticipation gave me the answer I need.
He runs up to the girl and Legolas. "Say goodbye, Dwarf," the elf prince says to him. "You are needed elsewhere."
Kili pulls out a smooth, polished stone and I see him giving it to her. "Keep it. As a promise."
The elleth sadly walks away with Legolas, leaving Kili behind.
