I rushed about the house my mind chasing itself into a knot. I checked things off a mental list as I grabbed specified objects: phone yup, sunnies yup, wallet yup , bag double check and keys. Wait where are my keys?

"Shit"

I unturned every single pot plant, table, chair and couch cushions. I even checked in the bin. I had everything but my keys. Why was it always the keys that perform a disappearing act when I need them?! I stop and collapse onto my cushionless sofa in defeat. A shiny object catches my eye and I look over at the coffee table. There, sitting completely untouched, were my keys staring right at me. O stare back in disbelief then remember I had a job interview in 10 minutes.

"Shit!"

I leap into action faster than the speed of light and sprint out the door. My sunnies sat haphazardly on the top of my head, my purse was half off my shoulder, my shoe was half on and my phone was clutched in my hand along with my keys. I fumbled with said keys for a second before unlocking my car and throwing myself into the front seat. I was on the road before I had even fully sat down. Once I was on my way I relaxed slightly, taking the time to compose myself and breathe properly. I checked my rearview mirror to find my winged eyeliner completely intact and my hair in a respectable enough bun to pass as an actual hairstyle. I also took the time to review what I was going to say in the interview and such but my mind wandered and I ended up reflecting on what a mess of an adult I was. At the age of 22, one would think I would be able to find my keys without starting World War III.

I finally arrived at the store where I was applying for a job. I loved the clothes they supply and had been shopping there since I was old enough to have my own fashion style. I had always wanted to work here (not the best job I know) and now, after years of working at crappy clothing stores I finally had enough experience to apply.

I took a deep breath and entered the shop. My ears were hit with the music that was constantly playing in the shop and I instantly relaxed. I went to the counter and informed the woman standing there about my job interview. The woman had vibrant red hair that was loosely curled and I immediately felt conscious of my drab, brown hair. My denim jacket over a floral skater dress paired with Dr. Martens was out-shined by her gorgeous 50s inspired red polka dot dress. While I was evaluating my entire appearance she smiled like she wasn't better than me at everything and lead me to her boss' office in the back. She then sat me down and informed me that her boss would there in a couple of minutes and left. I sat alone completely evaluating all of my life decisions up until this point. To say I overreacted was an understatement.

Suddenly I felt a tremor in the ground. Earthquakes are rarer than snow in Australia so it couldn't be that. Plumbing? No that's stupid. Curious I tried to narrow down the options of what the source of the tremor could  be. After a couple of minutes of thinking I came up with nothing. There was no logical explanation for the mystery tremors. All of a sudden the tremors grew and became audible. I don't think it's a good sign if you can hear the ground shaking. Then it went silent. I mean dead silent. I couldn't hear anything except my ragged breaths. I dared not move in fear of some weird unkown force.

Then it hit. The explosion shook the building and sent me flying out of my chair and into the desk I was facing. I hit the edge hard, winding myself. I struggled to get my breath back as I crawled under the desk trying to shelter myself. From I could see through the smoke surrounding me entire front of the store was in flames. Luckily there were no major fires in the office but I could see the flames growing by the second. Flames creeped from the front of the shop towards the office doorway. I covered my mouth with my sleeve in an attempt to filter the smokey air around me. I coughed and gagged on the air struggling to properly breathe. My vision was becoming more and more blurry and my breathing more laboured. I sank from my crouching position into a fetus position on the ground. My eyes stung from tears and  the smoke. I was going to die. At the age of 22, I wasn't a functioning adult and I was going to die. I became less and less aware of my surroundings as I became less and less motivated to try and breathe.

Then it went black.
