I woke up and let out a yawn. My friends were still dead asleep, I glanced at the alarm clock and saw that it was already 9am. I groggily got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. I washed my face, brushed my teeth and combed my hair. As soon as I got out, Kat was rubbing her eyes while Alex was stretching.
“Good Morning!” I said cheerfully. “Good Morning Hailey!” Kat said in a tone similar to mine. “Good Morning guys!” Alex said. “So what’s our plan for today?” Alex said. “We could go to the mall and shop if you guys want to.” I suggested. “Sounds like a good plan, what do you say Alex?” Kat asked excitedly. “It’s exactly what we need to do.” Alex said.
The three of us got ready in our respective bathrooms and got dressed. I wore a cream white sleeveless top with a black ribbon together with my black skinny jeans and white flats. Alex wore a white tank top with blue stripes, black skinny jeans and a pair of white chucks. Kat wore a floral button up top, black skinny jeans and floral sandals. “You’re so pretty Hailey!” Kat said as the three of us were in front of the mirror. “Thanks Kat but we’re all pretty.” I said shyly. “Yeah but you are the prettiest!” Alex said.
We took a couple of pictures of ourselves on our iPhones before getting our purses.
We went downstairs to ask my parents for permission but they weren’t there so I sent them a message to let them know where we are. Harry was probably still asleep so I left him a note on his door in case he was there.
We got into my car and played the albums in my CD compartment. “We should probably eat first don’t you think?” I asked. “Yeah.” Alex said. “Sure.” Kat said.
We sang to the songs that were played on the way to the mall. We’re lucky that we were early so there were a lot of parking slots available. I parked my Mercedes Benz in a shady part of the parking lot and we went it to start our Saturday Mall Day.
We went to eat lunch in an Italian restaurant that we loved. We ordered pasta, pizza, garlic bread and milkshakes. I spotted familiar faces in the other side of the restaurant and they weren’t just familiar, it was my brother Harry with his friends – Brandon, Robert and of course, Dylan. What a coincidence!
They just had to eat in the same place.
“Guys, my brother and his friends are across us.” I said. “Well, you are twins and you both love eating here. That explains it.” Alex said and it hit me that it was obviously why they are here. “We can find another place if you want Hailey, if it makes you feel better.” Kat said comfortingly. “No it’s okay, everything’s doing fine and I won’t let personal matters ruin our lunch date.” I said with a genuine smile because as long as he doesn’t bother me then I’m alright. “Okay but we got your back girl!” Alex said. “Thanks you guys!” I said.
We ate and talked but mostly ate because just the aroma of the food was divine! How much more when you actually get to taste it? We finished our meal and have the milkshakes left to finish. Just when I was about to ask for the bill, the waiter came with a banana split that had a card beside it.
“Uhm we didn’t order this.” I said because I’m pretty sure that no one, not even Kat ordered dessert after a loaded meal. “Did you order this Kat?” Alex asked. Before Kat could answer, the waiter spoke, “Miss, this was ordered by a young man for you who happens to be in the restaurant.” “Did the young man give out his name?” Alex asked. “No Miss but there is a card addressed to Miss Hailey.” The waiter said in his best Italian accent. “Okay, thank you.” I said in a confused tone since I wasn’t so sure who ordered this for me. “I’m guessing it’s from your brother.” Kat said. “Kat, he doesn’t even know that we’re here.” Alex pointed it.
I opened the card and it said,
Hailey,
I’m sorry and I hope we could talk soon.
Give me a chance to explain, please?

I don’t know how if I should be happy, bothered or angered by this but I’m pretty sure that my friends liked it.
“It was nice of him to get you some dessert Hails, come on let’s eat it!” Kat said. “Kat’s right, Hails. Let’s eat the dessert before it melts! Then we’ll talk serious.” Alex said and it sounded kind of weird, I mean Alex of all people would actually agree on this cheesy yet sweet method of apology. “Okay then, let’s not put this dessert into waste.” I said and we ate the banana split.
We left a tip then went out but I still wondered how Dylan spotted me even if he’s across the room. I even had my back turned for crying out loud! Ugh, I still don’t feel like I’m ready to talk to him. I might as well think of sending him a thank you message later but other than that I got nothing else to say.
We went to our favorite store to shop and we started to look for clothes.
“How does this look on me?” Kat said while holding a nice top. “I bet it’d look good on you.” I said while trying to pick out an outfit of my own. “I found these!” Alex said while holding these pair of white skinny jeans and a nice black cropped top. “Those are cute Alex! You guys should go try those on. I’ll just find myself some clothes.” I said. “Okay!” Alex said and they sprinted to the fitting rooms.
I went through the clothes in different racks. After a few racks, I found something I’d want to try on so I went to the fitting rooms. I heard Alex and Kat’s voices by the mirrors outside. I had the outfit on and looked at myself in the mirror right in front of me. It looked pretty neat so I decided to buy it.
“How did the clothes look?” I asked them both. “The top looked great!” Kat said. “The cropped top and skinny jeans fitted nicely.” Alex said. “Did you find anything Hails?” Alex asked. “Yeah, we should go to the counter now.” I said.
I went to the other counter so they won’t see what I bought, just wanted to surprise them. Just kidding! I just thought I’ll wear to school on Monday and they’ll see it by then.
We grabbed some frozen yogurts, wandered around the mall to see if there was something else we could buy so we ended up going to different stores and eventually we also bought shoes and accessories as well. At the end, we were looking for books to read in the bookstore. An hour later, we decided to go back to my house.
When we arrived, the three of us collapsed in the living room. We got tired yet we had so much fun at the mall today. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was only 2pm. We went back to my room and feel asleep. We woke up an hour later.
“Hailey, I had so much fun hanging out with you but I need to go home now.” Kat said. “Me too Hails, I need to get going too. We should totally go out again next week!” Alex said. “It’s okay. I had so much fun too. Thanks for keeping me company!” I said before leading them to the door before they walked to their houses which are only nearby.
I watched a couple of my favorite shows, studied in advanced, cleaned my room and went downstairs to eat dinner.
“Hi Hails!” Harry said while he ruffled my hair. “Hey, we were in the same restaurant a while ago.” I said. “I didn’t see you. Well we’re twins and we do love that place! I ordered pizza for dinner. ” Harry said as he opened the box of cheese pizza. “Haha, yay! What time will Mom and Dad come home?” I said as I took a pizza and bit it. “They’ll be home late since it’s a Saturday night.” Harry said. “Oh, had fun at the mall?” I asked. “Yeah, I got new games for my xbox. Want to play?” Harry said. “Sure! I bet I’m better than you!” I said half-teasingly. “You’re on!” Harry said.
We ate dinner while talking about random things and school. I went to his room to play a few rounds of his new game. And so far, I am totally beating him! Yay! I showed Harry how to kick some butt!
After an hour, I went back to my room. It was pretty warm so I decided to take my evening shower. This time I used relaxing herbal shampoo and body wash. I put on my silky nightgown and plopped on my bed and took my laptop.
I checked my phone for some messages but there wasn’t any which was somewhat unusual. I opened my Facebook account and saw that I had a message. I clicked it to find out that it was from Dylan. And he’s online! I didn’t want to be so rude to him but it was still a touchy subject. I clicked his name on my chat list.
“Here it goes!” I thought to myself and took a deep breath.
Me: Hi
Dylan: Hey
Me: Thanks for the dessert. I didn’t know you saw me there.
Dylan: I just recognized you and I saw Kat and Alex sitting there.
Me: Haha uhm yeah..
Dylan: I know you feel kinda awkward about this, it’s alright. I just wanted to let you know that I know you’re bothered and maybe a banana split would cheer you up a little.
Me: Yeah, I’ll talk to you soon.
Dylan: Okay, I understand.
Me: bye! Good Night!
Dylan: Good Night Beautiful!
I signed off, lay on my bed and sighed. The last thing he said made me cheeks heat up and it was a good thing that no one was here to see it. I just can’t hate him, it’s like there’s something I’m supposed to know about. I honestly don’t know how to react. I’m afraid to know the truth because what if he’s really dating Tiffany? Or maybe I’m just being dramatic and paranoid. “Get a hold of yourself, Hails!” I thought to myself for no one else to hear.
It’s been days after that incident and throughout that period of time, I’ve realized so many things and I was able to go back to the old Hailey – the brave Hailey who doesn’t let anyone hurt her and those she loved, the part of me that got lost ever since James hurt me and the time I was recovering from the accident, 2 years ago.
I smiled to myself at the thought of all those but of course, there was one thing I couldn’t get stop thinking about. There are still unexplainable feelings that I’m still trying to figure out until now. Before I think of other things, I just want to fix this mess with Dylan. I don’t want to ruin our friendship. I’d rather save it be a selfish airhead like Tiffany. Why would I want to destroy the friendship we already have? Dylan’s my friend. I don’t want to lose him, especially not to Tiffany.
I wrote a poem on my journal, looked at my childhood photos and listened to songs on my iPod. I opened my drawer to keep my pen but noticed a pink envelope that I haven’t seen in a while. It seemed familiar and I knew I’ve read it before so I opened it to find out what it said to recall things.
They’re notes from my friends! I read them and finally came to the last one, it was from Dylan. His message meant so much and he showed that he cared. But those unwanted thoughts continued to cloud my mind but I pushed those thoughts away. I thought of all those pleasant memories as I now lay on my bed.
I shifted into different positions until I was able to find a comfortable one. I pulled up my comforter because my room was chilly, thanks to the air conditioning.
I fell asleep.
