Hunt For The Spy

Being carried through the ballroom carried by Asmodeus, blind, would be an experience Evelyn would never forget. The screams of terror and pain were s much louder than when she was hidden in the alcove, so were the clash of swords. She often felt the breeze caused by swords passing inches in front of her hands that were pressed in front of her eyes.

Suddenly the sounds of fighting lessened as if they no longer were within the area of conflict. “You can open your eyes now.” Evelyn heard Asmodeus tell her and she did as he bid her.

When she opened her eyes she was greeted by the sight of an empty hallway. “Where are we?” She asked looking around the hallway.

“Down the hall from the ballroom.” Asmodeus told her, just as the sound of footsteps were heard heading towards them.

Asmodeus put Evelyn down and turned to face the oncoming threat, placing Evelyn shielded behind his back. Giving her the first opportunity to see the giant sword wound running diagonal along the width of his back. It sliced clean through his suit, into his skin and was bleeding heavily.

“What happened to you back?” Evelyn asked, lightly tracing the outline of the cut in his suit jacket.

“It’s not important.” Asmodeus said, rolling his shoulders and getting into a fighting stance just as the footsteps came to a stop in front of them.

Evelyn stuck her head out to the side of Asmodeus’s body to see three men standing by the ballroom doors with swords gripped tightly in their hands. The tallest of the three and the slightest, he had a long slender sword gripped in his right hand. The man to his right was shorter and bulker holding a much broader sword than his counterpart.

“Who are you?” The last man asked, he had a similar built like the previous man, short bulky except his was wider, with a sword in each hand.

“The last thing you will ever see.” Asmodeus told him, and then he beheaded him. Evelyn stared in horror as Asmodeus’s sword sliced through his neck, spraying the white walls with blood. When his head hit the floor Asmodeus turned and ran his sword through the tall man that was standing next to him. He was dead before his partner’s headless body had fallen to its knees.

The last remaining man, who was quick on the uptake, ran straight towards Evelyn as Asmodeus was killing his tall friend. Evelyn, managing to see him move, dropped to the floor and the man’s weapon drove through the space where a moment ago her chest had been.

Evelyn started to crawl away as the man raised the sword over his head to have more power when he brought it down to plunge it through her body when a sword drove a hole in his back and appeared on the other side, splattering blood on Evelyn’s dress. The man dropped his sword and slowly lowered his arms as he stared at the sword sticking out of his chest.

When his sword had finished ringing and lay silent on the floor the man went flying and hit the wall with a sickening crunch, revealing Leviathan holding the sword the killed and lowering her leg after removing the body from her weapon.

“I still know how to make an entrance.” Leviathan said, examining the blood glistening on her sword.

“That you do.” Evelyn said, still lying down on the floor.

Leviathan smiled and extended a hand to Evelyn, which she grabbed and Leviathan hauled her up while lowering her sword. As she got to her feet Asmodeus appeared before her.

“Are you okay?” He asked her.

Evelyn nodded her head.

“Good.” He said, running a hand along her cheek. “Thank you.”  He told Leviathan, turning to face her. “But what happened to you?” He asked her, gesturing with the hand that didn’t hold the sword to encompass her state of being.

Evelyn turned and now took in Leviathan’s appearance. She was wearing a short once beautiful dress that Evelyn assumed was previously green but now was so drenched in blood that its color was almost indistinguishable except for a few dry spots. The sword she carried was drenched in blood, just like Asmodeus, and there was blood splattered along her arms and on her face.

“I was on my way here when I ran into some trouble that I had to take care of.” Leviathan said.

“That doesn’t quite tell me how you got so bloody.” Asmodeus said.

“I took care of the trouble by ripping their heads off.” She said, shrugging.

“Ahh that explains it.” Asmodeus said. “How much trouble did you run into?”

“Not much, about twenty or so. I believe they had already sent their main force here, and they also weren’t expecting us to be so prepared so they lost a lot of men just penetrating our defenses.” Leviathan said.

“But penetrate them they did.” Asmodeus said, running a hand through his hair. “Let’s go find the other.” He told Leviathan.

“They’re probably in the meeting room.” Leviathan said.

Asmodeus nodded and then walked over and picked up Evelyn. “We don’t have time to waste.” He told her, using his free hand to press her against his body.

Evelyn nodded. “Okay.” She said.

Just as Asmodeus and Leviathan were about to move they heard the sound of lots of people running in towards them. Evelyn felt Asmodeus’s whole tense as they came closer.

“They’re ours.” Leviathan said, still facing the direction that the sounds of running were coming from. Asmodeus relaxed.

As the sounds of running feet reached a crescendo a group of men came around the corner running at full speed. When they first caught a glimpse of Asmodeus and Leviathan they came to a stop and brought up their swords, but once they realized who it was they were looking at they lowered them.

“Lucifer sent us.” One of the men told them.

Asmodeus nodded. “Proceed.” He told them as he and Leviathan started to walk around the group. As they got halfway past the crowd Asmodeus paused. “Kill them all.” Hr ordered and then resumed walking.

The men all nodded and ran into the ballroom. When the last man had disappeared into the ballroom Asmodeus and Leviathan moved at an impossible speed, they moved so fast that the walls started to blur before Evelyn’s eyes until they didn’t and Asmodeus and Leviathan came to a dead stop before the meeting room doors where yells could be heard along with the sound of breaking furniture.

Asmodeus put Evelyn down and then, after a moment of just staring at the door, they walked through the doors to the sight of at least fifty soldiers cowering in the face of Satan and Lucifer’s anger.

“How dare they.” Satan said, pacing the floor in front of a long wooden table and steeping over wooden splinters of things that had endured hits fits of rage, with Lucifer, who to Evelyn may have been more terrifying of the two, at his side.

Lucifer wasn’t pacing, instead he was standing perfectly still, with the most finely honed rage burning in his eyes, rage so pure it dyed the air crimson. Evelyn moved closer into Asmodeus’s side and he put an arm around her and he gave her a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder.

Satan continued to pace when Lucifer leaned forward, placing his hand on the table, and staring at the soldiers, who shifted uncomfortably under the intensity of his gaze.

“Find me that spy.” He told them softly. “I don’t care what you have to do to find him, just do it and bring him to me.”

Satan’s face contorted in anger. “That fucking spy.” He snarled, hitting the table and sending it flying into the wall, it broke apart into small pieces on impact. “Go find him now.” He told the soldiers who were all too happy to leave and literary tripped over themselves in their hurry to escape their presence.

“Now what are we going to do?” Beelzebub asked Satan and Lucifer from over in the corner of the room.

“What else, kill every damn rebel who had the audacity to infiltrate our halls.” Satan said, picking up a sword that was buried under all the wooden debris and walking out of the room, but not before destroying the room doors that were in his path.

“And I would suggest you all do the same.” Lucifer told them before following Satan out of the room.

“Now what do we do?” Evelyn asked softly.

“Now we go get you your weapon and then get you to a safe place.” Asmodeus said.

“And where would that be?” Evelyn asked.

Asmodeus sighed. “I haven’t the faintest idea.” He told her.
