THEIR VOICES ARE DISTANT, my eyes traveling along the tiles in the linoleum floor. They’re all white, so bright I can barely keep my eyes open.
I can tell my arm isn’t bleeding anymore, something wrapped around it so tightly. But then again, something’s pulling me down. I’m drifting, floating on thick air. Heat is overwhelming me, someone’s voice calling my name, Emma, you better not fucking die on me.
It fades away quickly, a needle going straight into my arm. Then I can’t feel anything except heat, except the fact that I’m slowly sinking down, that I can’t even try to stop myself.
Then I hear a prolonged beeping noise… then nothing else. Somehow I’m stuck where I am, my body suddenly overheating, seeming as though fire is growing inside. I’m too afraid to open my eyes, to see where I am…
Then a shock, bringing everything back to normal. I can hear beeping noises, people around me, and I can’t feel anything anymore.
But my body still refuses to start up again.
