"If only I knew what my heart was telling me
Don't know what I'm feeling
is this just a dream?"
I stood on the wall. The line to the ladies room was very long, as to be expected at a club. But it really wasn't a club. It was a place for bands to perform. My friends and I come here a lot, but especially tonight because their favorite band was playing.
We were all standing in line, my friends and I. They were talking to some guys from school. I knew them vaguely. One was in my Environmental science class. He was nice and funny, but he didn't talk to me. No one ever talked to me, unless you were a good friend of mine. I'm not a social person and tend to be quiet shy in big groups, even if my friends are around. Which is why no one ever talks to me. I'm not calling attention to myself so they don't notice me or they don't feel comfortable talking to me because I haven't talked to them. Which is fine, if I wanted people to talk to me then I would be more outgoing.
My friends were talking about some frat party this weekend. I wasn't going to go, obviously, but I knew they were all going and they knew I wasn't, so they didn't ask.
"Hey are you going to the frat party on Friday?" The guy from my science class asked me. It was really loud, my friends could nearly hear each other. I could hear him though, because he had moved right next to me.
"No, I'm not." I told him turning my head to watch the line not move.
"That's too bad, I hear it's going to be fun." He said moving to try and get in my line of sight.
"It's not my thing." I said turning toward him.
"Fun isn't your thing?" He asked surprised.
I was surprised that he was surprised. "No I like fun, it's just parties, lots of people. I'd rather just hang by myself in my dorm room."
"What if it was a party of two? I could hang out with you."
"What like a date? In my dorm room?"
"Yeah, sort of. That sounds really bad."
"It kinda does." I said laughing a little with him. He smiled.
"I like it when you laugh. You should laugh more, it's good for you. And I make you laugh, therefore I must be good for you." He said with a goofy expression, but a soft undertone. I laughed a little and smiled.
"If you're asking me out on a proper date then I accept, but it has to be somewhere other than my dorm room."
"You were the one who said you don't like other people. Where would we go?"
"Maybe if we study, you sit across the room from me, then we can have a study date in my dorm room."
"Sold, I'll bring my camp chair."
