The bell rang, signaling the end of the school day. Everyone got up and scattered out of the doorway like roaches. Jamie gathered up his stuff and caught up to me. "Trying to leave me?" He huffed. "I cant do that, seeing as you're my only ride home." I replied giving his lanky body a glance. He struggled to hold his things as he pushed his glasses up. "Need help?" I felt bad, as I was only carrying a binder. "Im good, my locker is right here anyway." He quickly opened his locker and shoved everything in except for his comic books and a binder labeled 'Chemistry'. "Got a chem assignment?" I asked eyeing the binder. "Yeah, want to study at your house?"
"Sure, I've got nothing better to do." I shrugged. We walked outside and reached his 97' old ford truck. It was a dull ashy red, the paint had worn off and rust was peeking through. It got him places though.
As we were walking towards the truck, a tall chubby guy who was on the football team smacked into Jamie, making his stuff fall onto the concrete. The guy just kept walking. Jamie muttered something under his breath and bent down to pick it up. I was sick of the way everyone had treated him. "Hey asswipe!" Before I had knew it, words were falling out of my mouth.
The guy turned around. "You talking to me?" He was shocked but you could tell he wanted to act tough. "Yeah, you should apologize!" I yelled back. Jamie's eyes widened and he kept mouthing "no" at me. The guy walked up to me and got in my face. "Yeah and who are you?" My heart was pounding in my chest. My blood was boiling but I was shaking. I needed a comeback. "Uh..umm.." I stuttered. I couldn't think of anything. "Yeah thought so!" He practically spit the words in my face and walked away. I looked around to see some people staring. Jamie tugged on my arm. "Let's just go."
I opened up the squeaky door to his truck and got in. "Thanks for sticking up for me." I shrugged. "Looks like I just made it worse." Jamie started up the car, it spun over a few times before the muffler popped and it was running. "You tried, that's good enough Serena." As we were backing out the clouds opened up and rain came pouring out. "Looks like we got in the car just in time." Jamie said as he drove out of the lot.
I didn't respond. I just kept thinking of how embarrassed I was. I try to stay under the radar but nobody messes with my best friend. I feel like I failed Jamie. "Hey I know what will make you feel better." He opened up his console, and took out a cd before sliding it in the player. "Hey hey you you, I don't like your girlfriend..." Avril Lavigne's song played through the speakers. Jamie started singing along and acting goofy. I couldn't help but crack a smile. Soon enough I was singing a dancing along. "He's like so whatever, and you could do so much better, I think we should get together now..." Jamie dramatized the entire thing. I was in a fit of laughter. Soon enough, the song ended and Jamie joined me in my laugh attack. "See, I knew that would make you feel better!"
Jamie looked up at the storm ridden sky. "Man this storm is getting pretty bad." He squinted at the road. The rain was coming down hard and leaves were blowing down the street. Thunder crackled above. The sky had went from bad to worse. "Maybe we should pull over." I motioned to the side of the road. "Our house is right down the street." Jamie pointed down the road. More thunder sounded from the sky.

I heard it first.
But then I felt it.
I saw flashes as the car swerved and flipped.
Pain shot through my body and then it was over.
I had blacked out.
