Nick's POV
After waiting for two hours, Joe and Demi finally arrived. They came late because there was traffic and the tube in the London underground had problems, causing them to have to walk all the way to the hospital.
"Nick is everything alright? Where is she?" Demi said as she quickly entered the waiting room.
"She's inside with the doctors. It's been over two hours, and nothing yet." I said quietly. I was tired and worried and angry at the same time. What the fuck did Devagni do to my sweet Selena.
"She's going to be fine, Dems. Nick's been through enough." Joe said as he followed a few seconds later, handing me a coffee cup from the vending machine.
I took it and smiled at him.
"Sorry. I'm worried too." Demi said with sad eyes to Joe.
"Me too, sweetie. But we all have to be strong. For Selena." Joe smiled and took Demi into his arms.
I sighed and stared at my coffee cup.
Just then, the doctor who took her in came out.
"Selena Marie Gomez?" He called.
I shot up from my seat and headed over to him.
"Hi, yeah I'm here for Selena." I said. The doctors looked over to me and sighed, flipping the papers on his clipboard.
"Yes, I believe you brought her in. The thing is, Mr..." He said and looked at me.
"Jonas. Nick Jonas." I replied, motioning for him to go on.
"Mr. Jonas, that we don't know what's causing her to be this way. Whatever it is, it's bad. She's gone through seizures, a major heart rate increase, her antibody is not fighting off viruses that's been projected from who knows where, and she is now unconscious. I gave her sedatives and some medicine that can help fight these viruses and to slow down heart rate, but she's in a dangerous state. If we don't find out what's causing all this, she might end up in a coma. And once she's in that coma... Well, let's just say... She can't be saved."
With every word the doctor said, I felt my knees go weak. I felt my eyes burn and I can feel my heart beat louder and heavier than ever. I look down on my shoes, and without knowing it, tears trickled down my eyes. I can hear Demi's sobs as well. Joe is just there, hugging her. Worrying about me, I guess. I can feel his eyes on me, burning on me.
"Excuse me." I said to the doctors and the couple. I stormed out of the hospital, angry for what Devagni has done to Selena. He is going down, for good. I went back to my apartment to retrieve the sketch that I've made of his face. It was still there, under the bed. But as I grabbed my keys, wallet and phone to head out, I heard men outside my door.
"I believe this one is their apartment." One said.
"Are you sure?" The other man said.
"Duh! The chips inside that innocent bitch's brain led us here. They're too busy taking care of her in the hospital, we have a few hours." The first one said and laughed.
Then I heard my lock being picked on, and immediately panicked. I didn't have a back door. This is an apartment. I decided to go out the window, and climbed to the floor above. I jumped to their balcony, now hidden out of plain sight by the view from my apartment window.
I can hear the two guys talking about something. What are they looking for? I literally had nothing on Devagni. And plus, I did give them the chip, didn't I? Why is this all necessary? And what were they talking about when they said there were chips inside Selena's brain?
I double checked my stuff, to see if I still have the sketch. I secured it in the inside pocket of my jacket and made my way through the other person's apartment. I don't even know whose it is, but it's unlocked, luckily.
I got back to the streets of London, jogging a little just in case they were done. I took the shortcuts where no cars can pass, and sure enough, I arrived in the Jonas tower. I made my way to my father's office, and found him, and my mother, sitting on the couch. Just the two of them, sipping tea.
"Nicholas! What a surprise!" My mother said as she stood up and hugged me.
"Mom!" I said and hugged back, even tighter. "I'm so glad you're okay."
"I'm so glad to see you. I heard you got treated at the hospital. Are you okay?" She said, cupping my face, worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine mom. But my friend isn't." I said sadly. She looked into my eyes and lets go of my face.
"Oh sweetie, is there anything I can do to help?" She said worried.
"Yeah, actually, there is. I just returned from my apartment and heard two guys sent by Devagni talking about some chips stuck in Selena's brain. Do you happen to know anything about that?" I told her. And all of a sudden, her face dropped.
"Oh my." She said and held her hands to her mouth.
"What is it?" I said, confused. "Mom, tell me!"
"Paul, a little help here?" She said and turned to my father who was still sitting on the couch, on his phone.
"Where is she?" He said and went over to me.
"She's in the hospital, Dad. She's been there since this afternoon." I said, annoyed now. "What is happening to her? Why won't you just tell me?"
"Son, these chips you're talking about... They're Devagni's new and advanced technology. He's planning to use it to control other people's brains, but it can also act like a virus. Any virus they want. Or he just wants to control Selena, we don't know."
I felt like my whole body wanted to drop dead, right there. I stared at my parents in disbelief to what I was hearing. "Is this true?" I said to my mom. She just nodded. "Is there anything you guys can do to help?"
"I don't know, Nick. It's pretty advanced, and we have no idea what they're doing, how the chips work, or where they've planted it." My mom tells me.
"Mom, Selena is in a fucking hospital, screaming out of her mind because she's got a massive headache. The doctors told me she could slip into a coma if not treated properly, and she could die! Does this mean absolutely nothing to you? Cause she means everything to me." I shouted furiously. I can't believe what I was hearing. "Can't you at least try?"
My Dad shook his head. "I'm sorry, Nick. It's all up to the man above now. She's just a patient waiting for a miracle to happen."
"I refuse to believe that." I said after a while of silence. "If you don't want to help me save her, then I'll just save her myself." I walked over to the super computer they've got in their office, and pulled up the file of the chip. It seems like nothing is in that folder, but I have to know what is in that chip and how it works.
I opened the network that is supposed to track Devagni's whereabouts and funding from the chip I supposedly opened for him, and tracked his IP address. Good thing I took computer engineering and coding. I typed in the hack code and smuggled my way into his computer.
Once I'm in, I opened the file that holds the information of the chip. There was a firewall blocking it. Great. I typed in another bunch of codes and hoped that it would work.
Twenty minutes later, I made my way through the firewall undetected. But there was another problem. There was a password and a log in. I tried accessing the group's network and tried to find any information they had on any member of the group. I tried each one of their names as a log in, and their birthdates as their password.
Another thirty minutes later, I found one that matches and works. I was finally in. I copied all the information on the chip onto my parent's supercomputer, and logged out, hoping that they won't find out I was there at all.
My mom came in a little later, and that's when I noticed I haven't slept a wink and dawn's almost breaking. Joe and Demi had been calling me for the past three hours, and my mom came in to tell me that they've been looking for me.
I saved the information I've gathered on the chip onto a USB Drive and said my goodbyes to my mom. When I got up, I felt a little woozy. Maybe because I haven't slept all day. I made my way back to the hospital with a laptop in hand and the USB Drive. Joe and Demi went home as soon as I get there. They're entitled to a good night's sleep.
I opened my laptop and started reading.
