Chapter one - (Transferred student)

"Hello everybody!!! May I have your attention please." My Math teacher demanded, but that didn't help much of the rowdy class that murmured and talked.

I, Sarah Black sat in my desk in a grouchy state and glared at everything that met my eyes.

I was a loner and couldn't stand being around other girls.

I didn't use to be like this...

Back in elementary I was nice, polite, and everybody thought I was cool.

Yet right when we reached middle school, I almost wanted to vomit!

My friends started talking about 'boys and love!' Did they know what it was like? Well I could care less! All I knew was that they went on and on about who they liked, who was the cutest, or sexiest blah blah blah nonsense.

Now in our first year of high school, all they would ever talk about is Valentine's day and how every little thing was cute.

For example, baby animals.

I mean come on I wouldn't think a baby gorilla is cute! Not trying to offend anyone in preference but not everything is cute.

Back to the point, I just don't understand all this love and talk about boys! Those girls sure believe they know what they're talking about.

I have a friend called Jake, he is the only person I ever really talk to. He didn't like or LOVE anyone . . . no, he just wanted to play video games which is what I like.

(I hate how all my old girl friends were being stupid because they were too girlie to try a video game.)

Jake was ignorant for trying to impress me though. When he first introduced himself, he bragged on about how all the girls fell for him. If I didn't notice he was lying, I would've ended our little chitchat right then and there.

He said he wouldn't do it again after I told him my personality. It was like he became a whole new different person. After that I didn't mind him being there.

Jake comes by with his always too big T-shirt and says,

"yooooo....what up?"

I sigh, still trying to impress other classmates which was to no affect as everyone ignored him. I sat up straight in my desk.

"Oh nothing much, just the usual, us being obnoxious little teenagers and Mrs. Miller not being able stand us."

I glanced up at the front to find that are math teacher Mrs. Miller was not even present in the room.

"I swear she might quit someday from all the pressure." I sigh shrugging

 "Well what's new?" I asked.

"Oh! Well the school is in an uproar for the new transfer student! The girls call him the cutie." He said using air quotes on 'cutie'..

"They say he looks just like a model."

I groaned in exasperation, ignoring him I stared transfixed to my textbook.

I hate new transfer students. There is always chaos on how cute or hot they are or their taste and all that crap. Such judgemental little creatures we are. I'll probably hide myself in the library and try to stay away from all the ruckus.

"When is he coming?" I asked Jake.

Before he could even utter a reply Mrs. Miller strolled in with the principal at her side and everybody went to their seats in a huff.

******

After the long weekend, I had prepared myself mentally and physically, because today was the day the transfer student was to arrive.

Packing my books in a bag, I stuffed the extra sandwich I knew I would need for later.  Struggling to put on my grey hoodie I finally headed off to first period of class. Already there is gossip circling around me, such comments like "attractive" and "dreamy" were bouncing back and forth between groups of girls. I had athletics second period, and because of how cheap our school was the people who loved Phys' ed were mostly a small percentage of the school, so I shared a class with all students in different grades; No doubt that 'he' would be in our class. My intuition for a 'cute guy' meant 90% a sports guy.It made perfect logical sense.

I'll probably be the first to leave the gym, while all the girls would go up to him and be flirtatious. They will all be asking him if he could give them lessons and the guys will act cool trying to get to know him.

I'm not some kind of fortune teller, I just know these things from experience.

When the second bell rang, I hurried to the gym and kept my head down while my frightening athletic teacher Ms. Watson started up the class. She took attendance bellowing, her voice bounced off the walls of the gym perhaps even audible to the whole first floor of the school building.

The principal strolled in a moment later and there he was...a boy who had stylish blond hair, calm blue ocean eyes, and full slightly pinked lips. He had a good body build and he sure did look like a model out of a magazine!

not

I could sense all the girls eyes on him. Me of course kept my gaze to the floor, the feelings mutual buddy.

Geez these girls! What is up with them. It is just a BOY!!!

Ms. Watson welcomed the principal, declaring to the class in her raspy loud voice,

"This is Derek Wilson, a new student to our school and a new addition to our phys ed's class,  please welcome him with open arms."

All the girls squealed in excitement as the boy nodded and went to sit on one of the benches. I glared at him from the corner of my eye while he tied his shoes. His gaze almost automatically came up to look at mine. I turned away quickly feeling disgusted.

He's nothing special

As we started up our gym routines. Derek came out of the change room jogging towards us.

He wore a sleeveless shirt showing off his biceps and muscles, shorts knee length but still visible were his smooth tanned legs. His hair was obviously wet probably from dunking his head in water. All the girls sucked in a deep breath of surprise when they saw him, and the look of "oh la-la!!!" was in their eyes.

...UGH!!! So gross...

Derek looked at me with a crooked grin and I stared back, a blank expression on my face.

wait...is he actually smiling at me!?

***

I hated to admit that he was really good at basketball. All the girls cheered for him.

...except for me as you can tell...

They were also trying to sneak in a few flirty conversations before Ms.Watson screamed at them to get off their lousy butts!

-Way to go Ms. Watson!-

When it was time to head to the change rooms I gladly went . . . then regretted it . .

Comments were spewing out from every direction.

"He is SO cute when his hair's wet."

"And he's a skilled basketball player"

"What beautiful biceps."

they were practically sighing over the figment of their stupid imagination!

I quickly finished dressing before I heard anymore of their giddy comments, stepping out of the change room.

"Hey!" Said a low gentled voice.

I whirled around to see Derek dressed in a blue hoodie and baggy jeans. He had his gym bag clutched tightly in his right hand.

"Hi" I said without thinking.

There was a moment of pause before he replied,

"I guess you already know who I am, but I noticed you awhile ago and... you're pretty good at basketball."

I said nothing.

Another pause then he asks,

"Are you friends with those girls?"

"No."

-Why was I replying to this idiot!-

"Well that's new" He blurted out.

I felt the burn in my cheeks. He flushed slightly realizing what he had said.

"Sorry! I didn't mean that you're weird or anything...uh... It's just... you're different from any other girl I met."

I stared at him fiercely with all my might.

"For your information, my name is Sarah Black and I do not care what you think I am! Now if you'll excuse me I must head to class." I replied between clenched teeth.

Twirling on my heels I stomped away in a huff.

I will not be fooled     I repeated in my mind as I slouched in my hoodie and glared at the wall.

I rapidly walked to my next class.

I never even knew he was smiling at me from behind my back...
