Ever since then I became quiet, more reserved, trying not to draw more attention to myself. Daii acted like nothing happened, she acted as though she didn't see Dr. Pascal and Dr. Fawn torture a patient, as if she didn't get abused for wanting justice. We went on having daily sessions and I never brought up anything new. I was hoping that if I didn't say anything new she have to confront me, and maybe I would be able to pick up something I had missed from that night. I never did see Kelly again. They told us he killed himself because his parents didn't accept him as who he really was, a man. But his best friend, Brian, he didn't believe a word Dr. Fawn said. After the funeral, he went up to her and yelled, and yelled and yelled about how the Kelly he knew wouldn't have done this, and they must be wrong, it was foul play. He yelled until security came over, and we never saw Brian again. Dr. Pascal was back to being the vice president of the doctor's committee. After seeing how controlling and scary he was that night, how does he even take orders from the committee? Or little, old Dr. Fawn? He could break her with one hand.
It was about 2 months after I saw the, you know, "incident." Dai had become more distant during our sessions. I asked around and apparently she was only acting this way with me. Did she know it was me that night? Or even worse. Am I next? I had to confront her. Or, I could try to find leverage and let them take me? I need information. I need to find out why they were doing this, how long they have been doing this, and why Dai wouldn't stop them? Did they have leverage on her? I know she wouldn't be able to back out, deals like watching someone torture someone or drug imports, are non negotiable afterwards. You are stuck with them or they will kill you. I have a session with Dai before tonight, if they plan on doing something soon, I need to know now.
"How have you been Cassiopeia? You haven't been talking as much recently. Is everything okay? Have you been taking your medicine? Have the nightmares came back?" Dai asked.
"Can you call me Cas? The police know my name as Cassiopeia." I replied, not saying anymore in hopes for her to push further. And thankfully she did.
"Oh, I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I can't believe I forgot that. You are my closest friend ever since I started working here. I just haven't been myself since..." and then her voice faltered. I looked at this opportunity, considered it, and took it.
I cleared my throat and started, "Hey, you know you can tell me anything right? I won't tell, and even if I did who would believe me? I live in a mental institution everyone knows I'm crazy... and full of lies." At the mention of the phrase "full of lies" you could see her wince. She looked around the room, weighing her options, pros and cons, and other variables. Time seemed to go slower, but my heart was going faster and louder.
At last she spoke, "You are next. I know it was you that night. They know I know something. You have to get out of here. They are ruthless. I can't back out or they will kill my siblings and parents. You must understand I don't approve of any of this," she paused to catch her breath, "Do you understand?" I understood, but I needed more information. My urges are coming back and I need to get into this drama. If, I kill a murderer it isn't as bad is it?
"I understand. But I can't do that. I can't just run away from this. They will do it to others," I say with fake concern in my voice. I couldn't care any less because I don't care at all. She smiled at me, a genuine, authentic smile.
"I am so glad you feel that way. I thought maybe that you only cared because you liked watching," She smiled yet again, so I smiled back. Little did she know that I would like to watch and don't actually care for their lives but maybe I can be a hero this time and be released. "We need to think of a plan. They plan on me taking you in tonight to see if you know anything. Deny everything and anything. Play dumb, maybe freak out, say the nightmares are back, I don't really know. But we will figure it out. I know you are a good actor, but they know that too. So be careful, you are battling in a mine field." I am glad she was buying this act. I didn't want to lie to her, but I also want to be released. I hope she can understand.
