Chapter 9:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Ugh, are we anywhere close?” I asked, tired.Jason glanced at me.
“We still got six hours.” He answered.
“Are you kidding me? I’m so bored!” I replied, frustrated. He looked at me, amused.
“Wanna kiss me again then?” He asked.
“No. I don’t know what happened there. But I promise, it’s not gonna happen again.” I answered. Yeah, I was just absolutely gonna forget about how it didn’t feel bad to kiss Jason. Actually, he was the best kisser I’ve ever kissed. Too bad he’s Jason. Jason looked a little hurt? there for a second, but it left so quickly, I wasn’t sure. I don’t think he liked me like that. I was probably entertainment or something for him. Just as he was about to say something again, I felt a familiar presence. Jason growled.
“Leave. Now.” He commanded. Yup. I knew who it was.
“How’s it goin Cates?” Paul asked me. I didn’t reply. “It’s not goin so good for Max. I was just talkin to him, and man he goes on and on about you!” Paul exclaimed simply. My whole body froze.
“You talked to Max?” I asked softly.
“Yup. We’ve been talking all day. He’s sending out people all over to look for you.” He replied.
“Paul, whatever you’re doing, stop right now.” Jason warned.
“What? What do you think I’m doing?” He asked, innocently. “I figured I’d make myself visible to Max so that we could talk. I wanted to learn more about Caty.” Paul explained. Jason and Paul started arguing, and I got really frustrated. Ugh, I just wanted to see what Paul would look like, because it was so hard to have conversations with air.
Then, it hit me. I could do what I did all the time when I was younger. For some weird reason right after my uncle died, I had my mind constantly on him, and I would always picture him in depth. Then that one fateful afternoon, I was taking a walk outside when I saw him. And I’m not talking about like in my mind or something. No, I actually physically walked side by side with my uncle, holding a conversation with him and everything. He explained to me that I was different than the normal person, and that if I focused hard enough, I could actually see and communicate with people that are dead. Creepy? YES. But I figured it was worth a try on Paul.
I pictured all the times we talked, and I pictured what I thought he might look like, just from what I’d pieced together. And then, I gasped.
Standing before me, actually extremely close to me, was an absolutely gorgeous guy. He had straight, blonde hair that came about to his ears or cheeks, that was naturally straight. He had on a really worn blue baseball hat on, which brought out the deep blues in his eyes. He was wearing a really sexy white shirt, and a pair of darker jeans that absolutely made him look perfect. Then, he was holding a pair of sunglasses. He had such an amazing tan as well.
So THIS was what Paul looked like. He was really hot. But honestly, and I hated to say this, he wasn’t as hot as Jason.
Jason was looking at me, confused. He had such deep blue eyes, even deeper than Paul’s. And the jet black hair he had, all naturally spiked up, paired up with his eyes just made him look unbelievably perfect. Judging by the quality of his clothes, he definitely had money. That was for sure. I didn’t know what it was about Jason, but his tight black shirt just brought out his muscles so much that I was mesmerized. He was perfect. Too bad he was also an ass.
I looked back at Paul.
“Paul.” I gasped. He looked at Jason, and his eyes got wide. Jason glanced from me to Paul, and then back at me, his eyes growing wide too.
“Caty…” He started. “Can you see….” He didn’t even need to finish his sentence because I was nodding.
“Uh huh.” I answered. Then Paul realized.
“Wait Caty, can you actually see me?” He asked.
“Uh huh.” I answered again. Jason immediately glared at Paul.
“What the hell’d you do?!” He exclaimed, extremely angry. Paul shrugged.
“Nothing! The only person I’ve shown myself to today is Max.” He reasoned. “It must be something with her.” That brought me back to my focus.
“You actually talked to Max?” I asked, a pang of sadness hitting me. Paul nodded.
“Yeah, he’s a nice dude. Little clingy and overprotective, but he seems like he cares a lot about you.” Paul replied.
“Dude, you better not have breathed a word.” Jason warned his face and expression getting darker. And I’m not talking about like, physically darker. It was more like he was imagining some pretty dark stuff. I’d hate to be Paul.
“Actually I did.” Paul replied. Jason looked at him. If looks could kill, Paul would be dead. Times four.
“What the FUCK are you talking about.” Jason stated more than asked.
“Well you said that she was yours because you took her and stuff. Well when everyone catches up to you, they’ll arrest her, then I’ll take her. I’ll kidnap her then.” Paul explained. Um, what did he just say? I wasn’t liking this plan.
“Um, no you’re not gonna Paul. When I go, NO ONE is kidnapping me again. Got it? I’m obviously not just gonna be passed off from one guy to another.” I said. Jason embraced me in a protective hug. His grip was extremely tight.
“That’s really funny Paul. You’re not gonna lay one finger on her. She’s mine. If you even touch her or LOOK at her funny, I’ll kick. Your. ASS.” Jason said, in a tone I never heard him use before. He was really and deathly serious. I’m not gonna lie, I was as scared as hell. I was trying not to pee my pants, I was that scared. Also I hadn’t gone to the bathrooms, but airplane bathrooms were so gross I’m not even gonna get into it. But anyways. Jason was swaring under his breath.
“Shit. You know what this means Caty, right?” he asked. I shook my head. Paul had since left, with quite a sketchy look upon his face. I hadn’t liked the look of that. But anyways.
“When we get there, we can’t go where I was gonna go, with just the two of us. It means we gotta go where there’s more protection.” He explained. I looked at him skeptically.
“I thought you said that at your castle there’s all those bodyguards and knights and stuff or something.” I asked.
“Yeah, there are. At my castle. We’re not going straight to my castle, though. First I had to get some stuff in Italy, and we’re undercover in Italy. That’s why I just figured that you could hang out and wait for me or something and I could just put a charm on the house or something. But now, Paul knows where that is, so I think we’re gonna have to go hang out with my best friends. You can stay with them until I get back.” Jason explained.
“Finally! I can actually hang out with people my own GENDER!” I exclaimed, happily. I was in dire need of some actually girl gossip and talk. He smirked. “What?” I asked, confused.
“Well you have boobs.” He pointed out. Umm… awkward much?
“What does that have to do with anything at all?” I asked, annoyed.
“They don’t. And they’re not flat chested.” He replied. Oh. I got it. This was great.
“How many are they.” I stated.
“Four guys.” He replied, a hint of a smile on his face. I scowled.
“Ugh! I can’t get a break!” I groaned.
“They’re all like me. So don’t try anything at all either. Trust me, I can PROMISE you it won’t work.” He whispered.
“You are just… I don’t know. So, incredibly annoying and unbelievable and mean, and –“ I started.
“And you can’t get enough of it though.” He finished for me. I blushed. So what if he was hot? And nice? And, perfect? Oh God. This wasn’t going anywhere good.
“You’re dumb, you know that?” I whispered.
“I really like you, you know that?” He replied, whispering too. I sighed, and leaned back on my seat. He put his arm around me, causing me to rest my head on his shoulder. It felt more amazing than it probably should have. “Why don’t you like me?” he asked, hurt.
“Well hmmm. I haven’t really gotten a good reason to like you. I mean, you tried to rob me, then you kidnapped me, and now you’re taking me out of this half of the world. You separated me from my boyfriend, my family and my friends. And you freak out on me. I mean, honestly I haven’t really seen anything that I like about you.” I explained. “Oh, not to mention you’ve put me to sleep like, four times and made me take medicine. See where I’m coming from?” I asked, frustrated.
“Caty?” He asked.
“Hm?” I asked.
“I think I like you too much.” He said, with a smile in his voice. I sighed.
“That might be a problem.” I replied.
This is the last time I go out to buy bras and flowers.
JASON’S POINT OF VIEW
Paul was gonna die for this. And I don’t mean physically, because I can’t kill him seen as though he’s already dead. Trust me, I would. He’d better not come around me OR her ever again. She’s too emotional and special to just be toyed around with. I saw the pain plain on her face when Max’s name even came up.
Now we were gonna have to go to Noah, Nate, Colin and Jay’s house. I didn’t have the heart to mention to her that they had company this season that consisted of four other guys. Just picturing her face, well that was a sight in itself.
But after all of our talking, I had only one mission. It was the fact that after this trip, Caty would fall in love with me. I’d make it impossible for her not to. I mean, she had to because if she didn’t, the rest of eternity was gonna be PRETTY awkward. It’ll be all good in the end though. I’d never had any trouble with this kind of stuff before.
I noticed Caty went from being deep in thought to drifting off, ear buds in her ears. She was doing a lot of sleeping, but it was understandable. I actually was relieved when I saw she was sleeping because she needed it. Her head was at her hottest, and so I used some of my healing or whatever powers to help her. The best thing right now was for her to sleep.
Paul showed up again, not taking his eyes off of her.
“Don’t you dare even look at her.” I warned.
“You better take extra good care of her and enjoy your time, because you KNOW that when I get her you’ll never be with her, because she’ll be mine.” He warned, then disappeared.
Well, it was pretty safe to say that that friendship is over.
I stared down at Caty, who was deep asleep on my shoulder. She was adorable. I kissed the top of her head.
“You’re killing me.” I whispered softly. “And you’re pretty damn good at it too.”
