A knock on the door interrupted my intensive ice cream eating. I stood up from the couch. I was in his shirt, it smelled like him and it felt nice to have something from him when I couldn't have his arms around me. I opened the door and found Karlie standing outside. I was sure I looked like a mess. I had been crying non stop since he left.
"What the hell happened to you?" She questioned, stepping into our apartment. My apartment. Fuck that hurt.
"We broke up. He..." I broke out into sobs again. Karlie wrapped her arms around me and I sobbed into her shoulder as she guided me to the couch and we sat down.
"Oh my god, Tay. I'm so sorry." She rubbed my back.
"He said it was too much." I blurted out through my cries. It was like I had been hit by a truck. Everything in my body seemed to hurt. But my heart hurt the most. I had never felt this way before. Not this bad. I really though we were it and now I just don't know.
"Tay, I'm sure you can work it out. You love each other. You can't just end it like that." She murmured and I pulled away from her.
"No." I sniffled. "He was too sure about it and I can't be with someone who can't deal with what comes with being with me." I shook my head as Karlie noticed suitcases packed next to the couch.
"Tay...is that yours?" She questioned, worriedly.
"Yes. We won't live together anymore so I'm getting myself a new apartment." I told her. "But until then, can I stay at your place just until I find one?"
"Tay, you can't be serious. You two can't just break up. He's your best friend."
"I know." I started crying harder when she said that because my pain was deeper. I wasn't only losing my boyfriend, I was losing my best friend.
The doorbell rang for the second time today and I stood trying to hold back my tears, wiping off the remaining ones. My heart broke again when I opened it. Adam. Karlie stood up.
"I'll leave you alone. I'm sure you need to talk." She told me, squeezing my arm as Adam stepped into the apartment.
"I came to pack my things." He announced, his voice cracking as he said it.
"Don't bother. I'm the one moving out." I replied, unable to stop my tears from falling.
"Why? I'm perfectly okay with sleeping at Charlie's or something." He said.
"Because I want to. I don't want to stay here, it'll be too hard." I told him. "Are you sure about this? You want to break up? All the memories we made, promises, you want everything to end?" I wiped my tears.
"I'm not sure but I can't hold you back. You take care of your career. I love you Taylor and I love you so much that I want you to do this alone. I'm letting you be as great as you can be without having me holding you back. I'm setting you free." He told me, crying.
"You're more important than my career, Adam." I whispered.
"No." He shook his head. "I've been thinking and your dream, that's more important. You are more important and I want you to be happy and I can't have you miss me when you're on tour. I want you to be the amazing human being that you are without having me."
"But I love you and I want to have you with me. I'm at my happiest with you. You don't understand. I don't want to lose you." I told him.
"Maybe someday we'll find each other again but just let me go." He wrapped his arms around my waist, tears falling down his face. "You don't have time, baby. You need to focus on your dream." He held me against his chest. I pulled away from him and took the promise ring off of my finger. I took his hand and placed the ring on his palm.
"I guess some promises are made to be broken." I cried. "I'm leaving then if this isn't just a silly little moment." He nodded.
"Go sing for the world, superstar." He smiled softly before pressing his lips against mine. Our last kiss.
"I will always love you." I murmured.
"Always." He nodded and I moved away from him, taking my suitcases and leaving.
