I wrapped my hand around another
and we ran over the spikes on the dam
and flew up through air, arms raised,
clasped together in a jubilant cry.
We hit the water, entangling fingers.
I broke the surface, the gates of my mind
locking out my companion and saw legs
dangling off the ledge:
nails painted blue, pink, red, gold,
and black— that one surfacing the water beside me.
Ankles were crossed above these feet
and bare, clean-shaven legs—
bare, tan stomachs hung above.
I came upon a pair of jeans on my way down the line:
red toenails, a pair of dark blue skinny jeans,
and a loose fitting purple shirt.
