I stayed at home for a few weeks, hiding in case the aliens came back to double check that everyone was gone. Before long though, me and the cat, who I had named Fishstick (Don't judge me, I'm terrible at names) had run out of food. Or I had. Fishstick could apparently find food anywhere. All I'm going to say is that the neighbors rats aren't going to be a problem for them anytime soon.

So, that's how I found myself walking back through the streets of the deserted city that thousands of people used to call home. When I got to Tom's store, the first thing I noticed was that the door was open a crack. The last time I was here, I remember closing the door firmly.

Proceeding with caution, I snuck through the door and noticed a figure in the gloomy back of the store looking through the cans of food. It's an alien! They've come back! But, why is it sneaking into a store? And where are its companions?

All my instinct was telling me to run away, but I couldn't leave Toms store to be attacked by aliens. Also, I needed to get supplies from there. So, grabbing the weapon closest to me, (a broom) I tiptoed through the empty store, snuck up behind the figure, and hit it with the broom. Hard.

"Ow!" A decidedly human voice rang out among the shelves. The unknown figure turned around, pulled a gun out their belt with a swift motion and pointed it at me. Finally I could see that it was a human girl with brown eyes and streaks of blue and purple in her blonde hair. She squinted in my direction. "Go out into the light where I can see you."

We walked out the door and into the sunlight before she visibly relaxed, putting the pistol back into her belt. "Sorry. You can't ever be too careful in an apocalypse."

"It's ok. Sorry I hit you with a broom."

"That was a broom? Dude, that hurt! You've got a good arm." She said, rubbing her back.

"Heh. Not really. So, what's your name?"

"Lexie. What's yours?"

"Indigo. Do you know if there's any more people that survived the aliens?"

Lexie literally lit up. "Yeah! There's about a dozen of us, all kids. We've kinda banded together since the aliens have taken all our parents. You should probably come join us. We're living under the city hall, in the basement."

"Oh, ok. I guess I'll come join y'all." I really had nothing left for me here, and after a week of just conversing with a cat, being around people seemed like heaven. "If you'll wait here, I can go get my stuff. I guess you can take some food from the store while your waiting."

"Sure!" Lexie walked back into the store as I jogged back to my house and filled a bag with my stuff. I only took the essentials, most of the other stuff I could probably find at an abandoned store somewhere. With Fishstick beside me, I ran back to the store where Lexie had just come out of the door holding a lot of bags with food items in them. She glanced up and said. "Yes! You have a cat! That'll keep those annoying mice away. Here, why don't you carry some bags?"

I grabbed a few bags from her overloaded arms, and we started walking down towards the center of town. Fishstick ran around, exploring everything as we traipsed along in comfortable silence. Eventually, the town hall loomed up in front on us and we went around to the back, where the outside door to the basement was cleverly concealed behind a few fake trees. We walked down a few staircases and stopped at a door. Lexie knocked on it in a particular pattern and the door swung open.

We walked inside, and saw a boy that looked to be about 6 or 7 hanging onto the door. He let go of it when he saw Fishstick, and the door swung shut with a click. The boy ran over to Fishstick. "A cat!" He shouted, nearly suffocating her as he hugged the poor thing.

An older boy came out from the shadows. "A cat?" He said in a questioning tone. Then, he smiled. "Yes! Now we can get rid of those rats!"

Lexie leaned over to me, pointed at the boy, still hugging Fishstick and said, "That's Eli, but he likes everyone to call him Wert, for some reason." She pointed to the other guy. "That's Noah. He's Eli's brother. He's also the oldest, and kind of the co-leader of the group. I'm the other co-leader, because I'm the only girl, and I'm awesome."

"Well, now you've got another girl here! How old is he?"

"Seventeen. I'm fifteen, but the second oldest in the group is Jason. He's fifteen, at least until January."

I looked around the basement. "Is everybody gone?"

"No, they should be back by now, unless Lucas got lost again. He gets distracted easily. I'll go call them out. Also, you can put those bags of food over there."

I set down the bags and looked around at the basement while Lexie walked away towards some doors. The basement had concrete walls and bare lightbulbs hung at intervals, giving the room a yellow glow. There were no windows, and in the corners of the basement, the shadows were so deep, you couldn't see anything in them. There were a lot of doors, most of them with a sheet of paper taped to them with a name on it. The one closest to me had a plaque that said Boiler Room.

Lexie walked along the wall and shouted, "EVERYBODY COME OUT, I FOUND SOMEONE YOU NEED TO MEET!"

I grimaced slightly. I didn't really appreciate people when they blew out my eardrums. About a dozen boys came out of the various doors, more than a few slightly pissed at Lexie and her loud voice. They formed a half circle facing us and looked at me with curiosity. Yay, I get to be the awkward new person!

Lexie broke the silence by saying, "So, guys this is Indigo. She's going to be joining us. Introduce yourselves, y'all know what to do. The boys went around the circle, telling me their name, age, and if they were related to anybody in the semicircle. I tried to remember everybody, but too much information at one time can make everybody blur together. I guess at I need to learn is time.

After everyone had introduced themselves, they all floated back to their separate rooms. Lexie tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Follow me."

We went over to a door that said Lexie Nunya on the piece of paper on the front in block lettering. Lexie opened the door and went inside. There was a twin bed, a desk, a bedside table and a dresser. Two old dusty bookshelves were pushed against the wall, answering my unasked question about what the room had been used for before it was turned into a bedroom.

Lexie went over to the desk and got a sheet of paper out of one of the drawers. I followed her to the door beside her room. She taped the paper to the door and handed me a green sharpie. On the paper I wrote Indigo Evans and entered the room.

It looked almost exactly like Lexie's room, minus the posters on the wall and clothes strewn all over he floor. The ever present bookshelves were pushed against the wall, and a new bookshelf that seemed to have been constructed recently was pushed up against them.

I threw my bag on the bed and took my shoes off, putting them next to the door. I was unpacking my bag when a knock sounded on the door and guy with blue eyes framed by glasses and wavy blond hair came in.

Seeing the panic on my face, Lexie whispered to me, "That's Oliver. He's twelve and has a twin brother named Cameron."

"How can I tell them apart?" I whispered back.

"Oliver has glasses."

He cleared his throat. "It's time for dinner. We're having spaghetti."

"Ok" I said as we followed him out of the room.

Ok, so lots of things.

I had minor writers block when I couldn't think of a last name for Indigo, so thanks to RealDinosaur  for helping me out there.

Also, I'm officially changing her name to Indigo, because Lucy sounds too much like Lexie. So, I'll go through all the previous chapters eventually an change it for future readers.

Also, last thing, there's about 12 boys in the group and I've only created about 7, so if you want to be in the book or have a character of yours in the book, just PM me or comment and tell me:
-what they look like (primarily eye color and hair color and other key features)
-how old they are
-sexuality
-key points about their personality
-if you want them to do some thing in particular (optional)

Also, sorry but all the people submitted have to be boys. Lexie and Indigo are really the only girls. Unless I bring in a girl sometime. Idk what will happen.

So, that's it! That's all the announcements, so I'm gonna go to school. Bye! :)
