Zayn's POV
I made myself a double deck chicken sandwich and went back to the room. Time to check on Dan and his love story. That guy better not have wasted my efforts.
When I opened the room door, Dan was lying on his bed looking at his phone with a smile on his face. That's not all! He was smiling at his phone! This was news!
"Ehhh someone's in a happy mood!" I had a smirk on my face but in actuality, I was overjoyed for Dan.
"Oh shut up! We're just talking okay!"
"Oh yeah? And it's already making you smile like a maniac and blush as red as a tomato? Damn she must be good!" I winked at him and sat at the end of his bed. I was about to take a bite of my sandwich and suddenly it got snatched from my grasp.
"Hey! What the hell?"
"What? I'm hungry! And I forgive you boo!" He did a kiss face and took a large bite of the sandwich I made for myself.
"I didn't even apologise! Ugh!" I threw a pillow at him but he dodged it.
"That's rude! Can't you see I'm eating Zayn?"
"My sandwich! You're eating my sandwich! Okay whatever. So tell me, are you two meeting yet?" I wiggled my eyebrows at him and smirked.
"We just started talking!"
"So?"
"I don't want to creep her out!" He ran his fingers through his hair as he stood up.
"You're really serious about her aren't you?"
"Yeah," he sighed. "I really am."
"Then listen to me and don't waste your time. Trust me, nothing's more difficult than losing your first love. Don't make the same mistake I did, Dan."
Dan looked at me for a few seconds processing what I had just told him. He nodded his head and looked at his phone again.
"I'll ask her out for dinner tonight."
"That's my boy!" I patted his shoulder and Dan just rolled his eyes. Such great chemistry we shared.
Kiara's POV
I knew I couldn't avoid the question forever and it wasn't like I had to tell him the full story. He was just concerned and I appreciated that.
"Just reminiscing," I said with a sad smile. "I celebrated my fourteenth birthday here with my parents." And also my last birthday.
"At that table," I said as I pointed to the table with the red vase.
Zac looked over at the table and looked back at me. He had a small smile on his face. I thought he bought my half-lie and I was about to breathe a sigh of relief internally when Zac said something else.
"You sure that's all?" I knew he didn't know the full story but how did he know that what I had told him wasn't the full story? How did he figure out that there was much more to that memory than what I had said? Had he really peeped into my soul?
"Yeah, I'm sure. Don't worry about it," I said as casually as I could. I couldn't afford to tell him more than what I had because I didn't know how I would be able to handle it. I didn't want to break down in a restaurant in front of a guy I barely knew yet.
Zac hummed in response and leaned back in his seat. Something told me he didn't believe me one bit but he had to because he wasn't getting anything out of me.
Our food arrived shortly and I thanked God for the distraction. We silently ate for the first few minutes until Zac spoke up.
"So where do you want to go after this?" I was so thankful that he had dropped the previous topic.
"Any mall would do. I need to do some basic shopping," I said. "And maybe a mall where there would be many job vacancies because I really need a job if I ought to start paying my own bills and rent." I smiled at Zac hoping he had caught my sense of humour.
"Hmm. Well in that case, the newly opened mall downtown would be best. They would probably need part-timers at the juice bars if you don't mind doing that kind of thing."
"I most definitely don't. I used to work in a beach shack anyways." The last sentence just slipped out and I hoped Zac hadn't picked up on it. I was doing a really terrible job at keeping my past away from me. I was bringing it up time after time and I couldn't even control myself.
"Beach shack eh? Tell me more." Zac asked with a smirk on his face.
What had I gotten myself into?
