Bright lights. Clean floors. The steady rhythm of machines keeps time like a heartbeat.
But the night you first crossed paths with Dr. Levi Ackerman, nothing felt safe at all.
The emergency alarms blared through the surgical wing, slicing through the quiet like a warning. You sprinted down the hallway, your badge bouncing against your chest, adrenaline burning through your veins. You did not know the patient's name. You did not know the details. You only knew someone's life was slipping away, and you were the closest nurse on shift.
You pushed open the trauma room doors and froze.
A man stood over the patient, dark hair falling neatly over sharp eyes, hands moving with terrifying precision. Calm. Cold. Controlled. He did not look up when you entered. He did not need to. His voice cut through the chaos like a scalpel.
"Y/n. Hold pressure. Now."
He said your name like he already knew you.
Like he expected you.
Like he did not have time to care whether you were ready.
You did not know him.
But you felt something shift in the air, something tense and dangerous, as you stepped beside him and pressed your hands to the wound.
The monitors screamed.
The patient's pulse dropped.
Your breath caught.
And Levi Ackerman finally looked at you.
Steel gray eyes.
Unshakeable focus.
A calm that felt almost unnatural.
In that moment, under the surgical lights, you did not know he would become the person who challenged you, irritated you, pushed you, and slowly changed you.
You did not know he would become the one person whose heartbeat you would learn to hear even in silence.
All you knew was this:
The night you met him, someone almost died.
And something inside you woke up.
