Tiara's POV
Today was just like any other day. I would get up, get out, and head to the recording studio. I worked there as administrative assistant on weekdays. I liked my job but sometimes it could get extremely boring.
Some days, many artists would walk in and I would get to meet and/or welcome them.
I got to talk with artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Bea Miller, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Zendaya, Lucy Hale, Jordan Fisher, and R5.
Most of the time, I just sat at my desk and resisted the urge to check social media on the computer or the laptop.
Also, my boss was kinda rude. She was a bit snooty so she was also dropping little comments that I just had to brush off.
Speak of the devil...I mean angel...
"Good morning, Tiara."
"Good morning, Jennifer. How are you?"
"I'm doing well." She smiled. "Oh my. Let me see if I can find something for your face."
I slowly put my hand to my face. "Wait. What's wrong with my face?"
"Oh it's just so oily and you've got pimples the size of Jupiter."
"Oh." I hung my head. I personally thought my face looked fine and for once, my skin was cooperating with me and my existence. But no. It just wasn't good enough for Jennifer. She came back with some type of face cream and handed it to me.
"Keep it." She said. "You need it more than I do."
It reminded me of the scene in "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" where Mr. Tumnus tries to return Lucy's handkerchief to her. Lucy refuses to take it and says to Mr. T, "Keep it. You need it more than I do".
I cringed at the thought that Jennifer unintentionally quoted C. S. Lewis' iconic story.
Ugh. No Jennifer. You can't ruin Narnia like that. No. It is not acceptable.
So I continued to sit at my desk and sipped my tea.
"Hey. I-"
I jumped, slightly burning myself.
"Sorry to scare you."
I looked up and stared into the eyes of a tall, handsome blonde boy.
"Oh that's okay. You're fine."
Way fine. Totally fine. Finer than fine. OH MY.
"Hi." I grinned sheepishly.
"Hey. I'm Ross." He spoke in a raspy voice.
"I'm Tiara. Pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine."
"Oh umm...so can I help you with anything?"
"Oh yeah. I was just gonna ask where the coffee room was because I wanted to make some tea."
"Oh." I grinned, slowly getting up from my seat. "Follow me and I'll show you."
I tried not to act super excited that I had a reason to leave my desk. As we walked to the break room, I decided to make small talk with Ross.
"So what brings you here this morning?" I asked.
"My band and I have a record label meeting today."
"Oh nice."
"Yep."
"So you're getting tea to help you stay awake for the meeting?" I joked.
Ross laughed. "Well yes and I woke up with a sore throat so I'm glad we don't have to sing or anything today."
"Awww. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope your throat feels better soon."
"Thanks."
I showed Ross how to heat up the water and showed him where the sugar, stirrers, and cups were.
"You good?" I checked.
"Yep." He winked. "Thanks again."
"You're welcome." I said, and walked back to my desk.
I had a permanent smile pasted across my face for the rest of the day. Ross walked past me with his cup of tea and waved adorably.
"Have a good day." Ross beamed.
"Thanks. You too." I smiled shyly.
The next couple of days, R5 was in and out of the studio. Ross had missed a few days and Rydel told me it was because he was at home with an awful cough. I almost wanted to visit him but I wasn't sure if he remembered me.
One rainy day, Ross walked in with the rest of the band and I was extremely happy to see him.
"Hi Tiara." He beamed.
I looked around to make sure Jennifer wasn't watching before getting up and hugging everyone.
She'd probably say that I was being unprofessional and maybe I was but like it's R5. You can't just not hug them.
"Glad to hear your cough is gone." I said to Ross.
"Thanks." He chuckled. "Me too. It was boring sitting around doing nothing."
"Hey you weren't doing nothing. You were probably doing things like coughing, and coughing, oh and coughing."
"Very funny, T." Ross narrowed his eyes.
"I try." I playfully flipped my hair. "So what brings you here today, kind sir?"
"Well we're recording some demos for our new album but it's a secret so shhh...."
"Oooooh. A secret." I wiggled my eyebrows. "I see."
"Yeah and if I told you, I'd have to kill you."
"Oh please. You wouldn't even point at me, much less kill me." I scoffed. "You're way too sweet and polite."
"Good. That's what I want you to believe." He bit his lip and stepped close until our noses were nearly touching.
"Oh." I gasped. "Okay so maybe you could kill me without even touching me."
"You know it." He winked (for the tenth time) and disappeared down the hall.
Weeks passed and sometimes, Ross would walk into the building just to greet me. Today, he walked in with a bag that said "Happy Birthday". I was confused because my birthday wasn't for awhile but oh well. I was still gonna be grateful for whatever it is.
"Hey so I've got two questions for you..." Ross began.
I leaned forward with anticipation. "Okay. Shoot."
"So first of all, are you free tonight?"
"Umm...maybe. It depends."
"Depends on what?"
"Depends on what I'm supposed to be free for." I messed with him.
"Oh." He pursed his lips. "Well I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to this awesome trampoline place called SkyZone."
"Oh I know what you're talking about. That place seems really cool."
"It's totally rad." He nodded. "So you wanna come?"
"For sure!"
"Second of all, I brought something for you."
"What is it?"
"Open it." He said excitedly.
I pulled four cans of Silly String out the bag that Ross brought in.
"Thanks." I smiled. "I really love-"
"You don't have to pretend you love it. It's all good. Plus, it's not for you. It's for Jennifer. She's on break right now so I say we decorate her office. Cool?"
"Okay hold up. How do you know Jennifer's on break?"
"Because I pay attention unlike some people."
"Heyyyy." I pretended to be offended. "I pay very close attention...when I feel like it."
We both laughed and somehow, I was dragged into Silly String-ing Jennifer's office.
"Ross we will be so killed if we get caught or she finds out it's us."
"I know." He grinned. "That's what makes it so much fun."
"Oh gosh." I shook my head.
We ran around my boss's small office, spraying Silly String everywhere.
Suddenly, the sound of heels clicking down the tiled hall startled us both.
"Under the desk." Ross pointed. I nodded and scurried to the floor. He let me get under first and then climbed under next to me. Thankfully, we could scoot back as far as possible but we still had to stay very still and quiet.
"Ya know when you look at a person and you can tell they've got a beautiful soul?" Ross whispered as he played with my hair. "That's how I felt when I saw you."
"Ross. This is NOT the time to be all cute and romantic."
"Sorry. I don't know how to not be cute and romantic."
I giggled but then covered my mouth with my hands.
Jennifer stormed into her office and shrieked when she saw the mess we made. I am so totally fired. Why did I listen to that beautiful boy?
She left the room and came back with a few more people. All I could see were feet and legs.
"Who did this?" Jennifer asked harshly.
"I don't know." Someone replied.
She interrogated everyone in her office (expect for me and Ross). Everyone kept saying "What about Tiara?", "Well where's Tiara?" "Maybe it was Tiara." and I almost laughed. Eventually, the office cleared out and Ross and I made our escape.
"That was so much fun." Ross announced, hyper from the thrill.
"You're insane. I love it."
"I love you." He breathed. "Do you have a typewriter?"
"I love you t-wait what? A what?" I laughed. "Did you just ruin the moment by asking me if I had a typewriter?"
"Umm yeah. Duh."
"Oh my gosh. You're so weird. It's fantastic!"
"We really need to vandalize more often." Ross chuckled as he watched me restart my computer.
I laughed. "True."
"Excuse me?" Jennifer asked, appearing out of nowhere. Her hands were on her hips and she looked mad as heck.
Ross grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently. I looked up into his handsome eyes.
"Run." He whispered and with that, we took off.
