Alpha Dan's P.O.V.
Sighing I hang up the phone. It wasn't good news and the conversation I now had to have wasn't going to go down well.
I picked up my mobile and held down the number 2, the number for my Beta flashed up on screen. "Hey Dan, what's up?" he answered on the second ring. He hasn't been the same since the party 4 months ago and this news may just break him further.
"Hey buddy, can I talk to you for a second? Come to my office." I replied as normally as I could.
"Sure thing, there in five". With that he hung up. Now I just had to prepare what I was going to say.
We sat down in our usual spots, me behind my cluttered desk and Dylan spread out across the huge leather sofa on the other side. I could tell he hasn't slept in a few days. He had dark circles under his eyes and his hair wast stuck up all over the place, like he had just gotten out of bed. His clothing was creased and obviously came straight from his bedroom floor.
"What's up Dyl, you look rough man?" I state "Want a drink or something?" seeing my Beta and my best friend like this is killing me, but it isn't going to get better, not today.
He sat back in the chair and propped his feet up on my desk, if he wasn’t my best friend I’d have chopped them off.
"Nah Dan, what's up? I thought we were going out later for a drink, why the sudden call?"
"Please tell me you weren't going to come out with me looking like that." I sigh "Right, yeah. Well, there's something I need to tell you. We have been put on red alert."
"Red alert, what the hell are you taking about?" He replied with a chuckle "Were not in the secret service Dan, there is no need to speak in code." Okay I didn't know how to handle this, none of my training could have prepared me for this moment and that maybe wasn't the best turn of phrase, red alert, what was i thinking.
"I just received a phone call from the Alpha of another pack. The daughter of one of his high ranking pack members has gone missing, every pack has been notified and every pack has been told to be on the look out for her."
"Wow, this guy must have some serious pull if we are all playing detective for him" he says admiration in his voice. "I bet you couldn't do that" he jokes "who is the guy?” Usually I’d growl at him, but he hasn't joked around like this in a while. So I laugh too and knock his feet of my desk, as I make my round and perch on the front. Show time.
"It's Alpha Edward Clayton" I can see him stiffen "and the girl is, well it's Isabelle. She's run away." and with those words Dylan shifts, which I expected, no shaking, no growling, one second he was human then next he was a wolf. Rippng and tearing at my new sofa he growls and then run's straight through my office door, knocking it off its hinges. I stand and stare at the place my Beta was sitting just moments before now a pile of rubble and clothing, sighing I summon my wolf, the usual mix of pain and complete calm spreads across my body as I take my other form and follow after him.
It's not hard to stay on his tail, so to speak, not only do I have his scent imprinted to memory, but he's leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. I can tell through our mind link that his wolf has complete control at the moment and this could be extremely dangerous. A blood curdling howl, pierces the silent evening and echoes of the trees around us and I pick up my speed, my claws digging harder into the ground and propelling myself futher and faster with every stride. There isn't an animal anywhere in the perimeter, they are all hiding from the preditors that have invaded their space, there are no sounds to be heard except Dylan, who seems to just be pacing.
I knew where he'd be even without a scent to follow, this is our clearing, we came here as kids and practised our fighting skills on each other, as humans and as wolves, training for the day that we'd be in charge. We camped here with our dads and learnt about the ways of survival, how to cover your tracks, prepare and cook your food if you're eating in human form, and how to leave a campsite without a trace.
We are far from being those little boys now. The sandy wolf growls at my approach and my hackles rise at the challenge instinctively, he's slighty smaller than me but still bigger than your average shifter and much larger than a normal wolf, i could take him, but i don't want it to come to that. Knowing that this is Dylan helps me let it go and sit down to show I’m not a threat.
"Dylan calm down." I state through our link. There's no reply, his wolf has a strong hold right now. He begins to pace back and forth again, growling with every turn.
"Dylan you will calm down." This time I use my Alpha tone, I hate using it on my friends but I don't know what Dylan is thinking and like I said this could be a dangerous situation. His pacing slows and then as if defeated he flops to the ground and whines.
"Dylan are you back in control now?"I ask carefully.
"Yeah" he sighs
"Feeling better?" I wince as I realise what a stupid question that is.
"No I do not feel better, what do you think? A little running is going to make me all happy! You don't have a mate you can't even begin to know what this feels like!" he growls at me. That was a low blow and he knows it. No I haven't met my mate and he knows how much it kills me inside, knowing that I may never find her. He also knows that a part of me hates him for finding his and just walking away, even though I know the reasons behind it.
I get up and turn to walk away; there is no point in talking to him when he's in one of his moods.
"Dan, I’m sorry I didn't mean it. Don't go." he's practically begging me, so I turn around and lie down in the grass. "I need you tell me everything Alpha Clayton said on the phone." His tone is serious and business-like so I get right to it.
"She was due to go to University, a human University two months ago, one down in London." He already knew this of course, he'd been keeping tabs on Isabelle for months now, we have even placed one of our own pack members in the same University to keep an eye on her, which makes me wonder why I hadn't heard of this sooner. "She went down at the start of the year, signed in, moved in all her stuff, went to fresher's week" this earns me a growl off Dylan, we heard some stories about what she had gotten up to, she'd enjoyed herself, that was for sure, and I had to get a new desk after Dylan was through. "But after that she didn't attend any of her classes and well basically dropped of the face of the earth. Alpha Clayton has stated that he won't stop till he finds her, hence the call to all packs."
"This is my fault." he states the pain obvious in his voice.
"Nah mate, it's not, how can it be, you haven't seen her in 4 months." Quicker than lightning he jumps up onto all fours growling manically.
"Don't tell me this isn't my fault, you didn't see her face! I rejected my own mate Dan! It's been killing me inside, everyday, every freaking minute. How do you think it's affecting her? I gave her no reason, just shot her down and left, never to be seen again. I'm surprised her dad hasn't hunted me down yet. There hasn't been a day that I haven't thought about her, or a moment where I haven't had to fight with myself so I didn't go running to her with my tail between my legs."He resumes his pacing. God this hurts to watch. Suddenly he stops, my senses go into overdrive immediately looking for signs of trouble, but there's nothing.
"What's up?" I ask still wary.
"Dan I have to go, I can't sit here and wait for her to be found, she's my mate! Mine! I have to make sure she's safe, even if she never wants to see me again."He whisperes the last part, but I could still hear the pain in his voice. "I'll travel around the world if I have too, for as long as it takes."
"Alright dude of course, don't worry about the pack they'll be fine, and just so you know your position as Beta will be here when you come back, just keep in touch okay?" There was no way I was going to argue with him on this. this is what he has to do.
And with that he sprints away and is quickly swallowed up by the trees around us. There are no soppy goodbyes between wolves.
He's my best friend, my Beta and he will find this girl. I'm sure of it.

Okay so that was chapter 4, a little different, i think the ending was a little cheesy lol. I hope the change in point of view wasn't too confusing. Fingers crossed that this one passes inspection xD. Usual things apply in the form of dedications and such. Please as always inform me of mistakes made and comments and votes are much appreciated.
