"Attention please," Fury said, calling a stop to all activities. "This is your newest member." All eyes looked to you as they sized you up, deciding their initial judgments and labeling you.
You wanted to hide behind him, but he turned and left. You stood there for a second, wide eyed and looking at each and every one of your idols. "Hi," you said. "I'm (Y/N)."
A couple of them scoffed and turned back around to do whatever it was they were doing and chatter started up again. You stood there for a bit, chewing on your lower lip, unsure of what to do.
"Hey, newbie," Clint called. He wasn't your favourite Avenger. He was probably... Second last. Regardless, you were glad for the interaction.
"Uh, hi," you replied.
He stood up, walking over to you, asserting his dominance by height. You shrunk back a little more. He eased up and began to laugh. He held out his hand. "I'm Clinton Barton, but you can call me Clint."
You shook his hand. "I'm (Y/N). It's uh, very nice to meet you."
He smiled. "Nice to meet you too." He beckoned you to follow him over to his section of the HQ. "So," he said. "What do you do?" When you looked confused, he continued. "As in, what's your power? Or skill? Or - "
"I don't know."
He frowned. "You don't know what your power is?"
You shrugged. "I kind of get biologically memory wiped every time."
"Oh wow."
Eager to change the subject and not create social awkwardness, he offered you a tour around the complex.

It had been three months. Three excruciating months of working as an Avenger. Natasha passed you without even a look, Tony, who was renowned for his flirting, hadn't tried anything on you - which kind of pleased you and kind of didn't - and Steve, who was supposed to be the nice one didn't even say 'hi'. Bruce was always in his own world so in that scenario you didn't feel quite so out of place, but it still hurt to be the unwanted Avenger.
Your only kind of friend was Clint. He was the one who invited you to hang out with the others, or check out the new tech that Tony designed, or the new weapons system. He was kind of a big brother to you.
You heard a throat clear and turned to see him standing there and smiling.
You smiled back at him. "Hey," you said.
"Hey. We're going out for coffee. Wanna come?"
You looked past him to see all the other Avengers waiting impatiently, a couple glaring at you. You sighed. "Uh, no it's fine. I've got loads of work to do."
"Really?" Why was he being so persistent? He picked up a folder off your desk and opened it. "Empty," he said, chuckling as he put it back. "Come on. One coffee can't hurt."
You sighed again. "No, I won't be able to sleep."
"Because you're totally going to need to sleep at nine."
"I meant later tonight."
"Coffee doesn't last that long."
"It's nice of you to offer but - "
"Just let her stay if she doesn't want to come," Natasha said, flicking her hair before checking out her nails. she was the classic popular girl with almost all of the guys wrapped around her little finger.
"Right," Clint said before turning back to you. "Come on. You're coming."
You frowned. He... He just invited you anyways? "Fine." It came out neutral but inside it was a happy fine.
He grinned, holding out his hand. You took it and walked with him to coffee.

You sat down opposite to him, sipping the coffee from the cardboard cut.
He seemed content with the others but you felt on edge.
"So," Natasha said. It only added to the awkwardness. "(Y/N)..." She turned her chair to look at you. "What did you do before being... Here."
You sighed, the nonacceptance ringing loud in your ears. "I can't remember."
Her brows furrowed. "Can't remember?" She sounded like she didn't believe you.
"Biological memory wipe," Clint cut in, winking at you. Natasha wasn't happy about that.
"So what can you remember?" she asked.
You shrugged. "Not much actually."
"Why?"
"I don't know."
"Why?!" she demanded, standing up. Another chair screeched and you looked across the table to see Clint up as well.
"What's wrong with you?!" Clint demanded of her.
She shrugged him off. "I've seen her before."
