Mel and I are chatting about nothing in particular when the bell rings, ending our useless conversation. I sigh and pick up the notebook I got in math class. I couldn't afford a backpack yet, so I would just have to carry it in hand.
I head to French, excited about how it's going to go. I am already quite advanced in French, and since this is just an elective here, I won't be behind. Hopefully.
My worn out sneakers squeak on the newly polished floor, and I head down the crowded halls. Everyone tries their best to ignore me, the 'poor one.' I just follow the crowd and try not to get trampled. Easier said than done. Some girl with black hair and a skimpy outfit walks straight in front of me and stops to look around. From behind me, people keep pushing, but being the weak person I am, I fall down. Flat onto my face, into the newly polished floor.
Well, this day keeps on getting better!
No one notices my body pressed to the floor, with blood seeping out of my nose. I try to stand up, but my hands are bruising from me trying to stop my fall. That hurt! I whimper, and suddenly I see Mark standing a distance away, trying to push through the crowd to help me. God no, I did not just see him. I want him to hold my hand....
I look away in shame, and find Katrina standing over me.
"Kat!" I say loudly, and she gasps. "Perri, what happened" she asked, and helped pick me up. I whimper in pain and she grabs my hand, but she doesn't seem to notice. She looks like she's spacing out.
Katrina's POV
I grab Perri's hand, helping her up.
You should've just let me deal with it says a voice inside my head.
Mark? What did I do wrong? I ask clearly confused. The future alpha never sent me messages directly. I was one of the girls from the orphanage. A girl that when they found me shift for the first time, called me out as a rogue and tried to kill me. And I guess I was one. I had no idea I was a werewolf. It wasn't the most delightful surprise when one day it felt that all of my bones were breaking. Over and over again.
She's my mate. I could've helped her he replied, and I felt a small growl break it's way out of my throat. Not loud enough for anyone but the pack to hear though, with our improved hearing.
Oh my buttery biscuits. Perri was the future Alpha Mark's mate. OH GOD I THINK I'M HYPERVENTILATING
Perri's POV
I look up at a suddenly distressed Katrina, struggling to breath.
"Kat? You Okay?" I ask, and she looks at me, looking scared.
"Yeah" she says, unconvincingly, and her face coats into a mask of indifference. I have seen it that mask many times and know that something is up. But I'll try to ignore it for now.
